Demon Blast

Demon Blast

Introduction

As I absolutely adore the DOOM series and similar titles, Demon Blast naturally caught my eye on Steam’s Store Page immediately. Its colourful, cartoonish art style, along with the promise of killing hordes of demons, was enough for me to give it a try, despite it being in the Early Access. The harsh reality is that this game is unfinished and clunky to play, as you would expect from the Early Access. However, the promised updates are still not released, which is why I finally decided to write a review, as the game’s current content does not offer enough to justify its price for me.

The idea of a roguelike with a touch of doom is reaaaally great, in fact was pretty fun until…

There are 2 bugs are killling me (literally)

1st one the enemy range atack pass the doors and hits you

2nd one the have a issue with the mouse like if you change of dpi for talking with npcs of hitting stuff with your hands.

I know it’s an early acess and you expect bugs but this make the game nearly unplayable and really hard

P44: Enlightenment

Very special co-op platformer game with beautiful, minimalist graphics in 2.5D

Take advantage to become one of two amazing characters: reckless boy or supernatural light.

You have to work together to escape from the orphanage, deal with obstacles and defeat your enemies.

Don’t forget to read the dialogues and read them closely! There are some lore details hidden.

Don’t miss your chance to immerse yourself into some fantastic levels built from total scratch!

I really liked the look of this game and after a long time of having many platform games released that have been any good but the bad first.

1. The difficultness ramps up very quick indeed and in fact on world 1-4 it is very unforgiving and you find yourself re doing certain parts over and over again to the point of getting fed up as you get put so far back in the game.

2. If you lose all your lives in a level no matter how far in you are you end up right back at the start of the level and have to go through it all again maybe an option to continue would be good here.

The groundwork here is remarkable! This is a very well made and fast paced platforming action game that doesn’t do the hand-holding you’re used to with some really clever ideas. It’s a bit too unforgiving in places where a single misstep throws you back quite far or bonus stages that are lost until repeating the whole level but it’s exciting and the colorful graphics look amazing. Performance is great too.

Initially I expected more, but considering the cost of the game - I can say for sure that this is a pretty good choice of indie games if you are a fan of this genre.

If you’re not a fan of the genre - you can’t understand the game, but you won’t be dissatisfied, that’s for sure.

Of course, there are some bugs with textures, something like this, but the game is new and I think that developers will do everything to avoid the appearance of bugs for their players. Moreover, please add multiplayer game mode - it will be much more funny to play this game with friends.

Talking about the game personally - As for 2D shooter this game is really excellent, specific atmosphere, big attention to all details, many options.

It’s a real HARDCORE, as the game is very dynamic, permanent enemies and fights.

(Don’t Fear) The Templar

It took playing the recent Quake remaster, but now I get it.

It’s good. Nay, ace. No doubt about it. If it wasn’t up against the stiff competition that is the years upon years of high quality ‘boomer’ shooters, this would be a completely unqualified early access recommendation.

Ultrakill, Ion Fury, Post Void, Project Warlock 1 + II, Amid Evil, DUSK, HROT, Maximum Action, GTTOD, Prodeus, Cultic, etc - be they full games, early access, or just demos, the retro, ‘boomer’ shooter genre really is booming. I also cannot wait for the likes of Into the Pit, Fortune’s Run, and Forgive Me Father. In fact, there are so many that even when I say that I’d place this firmly mid-list it’s not even that damning.

TLDR; If you like retro shooter gameplay, and would like to have fun, buy it now!

I will just start listing what comes to mind, that makes me love this game, then write some experiences from my first 8 hours of playing on the hardest difficulty so far. Smooth movement with air controll using the mouse, running feels similar to classic doom (taking a short time to reach full speed), satisfying meaty gun sounds and very good feedback with lots of gore, build variety that actually changes gameplay, bullet time, stylish awesome visuals, amazing soundtrack, atmosphere, very good enemy and level design, exploration with rewarding secrets to find, weapon swapping combos combined with positioning during combat.

Mage World - The Wizard’s Stone

Mage World - The Wizard’s Stone

This game feels like a product of ambition from an emerging developer, and I’m all for it.

It’s a basic platformer where you collect coins to unlock other worlds and extra lives, as well as new spells upon beating each world’s boss. I’m a fan of this, besides the fact that you really don’t need any other spell once you get Force Burst.

I played through all the levels available as of now, and it’s a pretty lengthy game for the price. That being said, it’s overall fairly easy, and a lot of the levels don’t have much that make them distinct from one another, but the levels in Episode 2 ramp up the difficulty considerably, and I found it pretty engaging, aside from a few somewhat frustrating jumps and enemy placements.

White Hell

White Hell

Reviewing the initial Early Access release of 9 levels, after playing the demo first, Early Access release is a huge improvement.

This isnt much of a movement shooter like ULTRAKILL(how I heard about this game) but it has some fun mechanics like parrying projectiles with kicks. Which is helpful for most if not all enemies.

There’s a lot of attention to detail, it plays really fun and satisfyingly.

Level design is a big highlight, as well as secrets which are fair and very well-thoughtfully placed. Often good platforming required.

Real player with 16.3 hrs in game

White Hell is about an average day in Finland.

It’s also one hell of a boomer shooter, taking full advantage of the early quakelike jank that seems to come with such a game. The weapon arsenal is satisfying and punchy, the SISU-mode creates a dynamic ebb and flow in combat, rewarding aggressive play with some of the most creative and powerful weapons I’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy in a shooter.

If I would say anything is that the early enemy types (the fascists) are a bit basic and some parts of your arsenal start to feel like dead weight as you progress in the game. Case in point, the knife, revolver and SISU-sword. The knife and revolver feel like a sort of “traditional obligation”, and if your goal is to harken back to old shooters and emphasize a growth of power during the game, then thats fine. However, playing some of the newer takes on the genre (DUSK, DOOM: Eternal and ULTRAKILL) makes me appreciate the luxury of making starter weapons important parts of your arsenal. The SISU-sword also feels a bit underwhelming, since every other SISU-weapons outpace it in terms of damage, area of effect and cost-effectiveness.
