At Eve’s Wake

At Eve’s Wake

High-quality visual novel with multiple endings, fantastic graphic and sound component, and intriguing premise.

The Good Parts:

  • Fascinating set-up of family ties based on cult-like faith, bloody competition, and something outright paranormal with overall dysfunction taken to the next level.

  • Great writing throughout. It manages to introduce a complex fictional idea in a manner that captures attention and makes you ponder.

  • Atmospheric world-building. There’s sinister feeling intertwined with some outright shocking moments. “At Eve’s Wake” isn’t horror in the pure sense of the word, but more in a psychological one, so it has a very well-done horror element burning its way through the game, sometimes on slow simmer, sometimes as a wildfire.

Ahhhhh I was so excited for this to come out and it’s finally here! I’ve just finished my first playthrough and it lived up to my hype, if you’re having any doubts about picking up the full game then please try out the demo and you’ll see what I mean.

-Gorgeous art and music, just a delightful atmosphere throughout

-A well developed and intriguing story of mystery, murder and mishaps

-An incredible amount of dialogue choices with a variety of endings seemingly possible depending on them.

I love visual novels and narrative-driven games, so I feel that I know what I’m talking about to some degree, and I say this- At Eve’s Wake is a beautiful and eerie story that deserves your attention if you’re at all interested in Lovecraft, mysteries, visual novels, or graverobbing. Trust me on that last one.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes

Better than most modern movies!

At first, the story seems cliche but will intrigue you the more you learn.

Choices shape your journey and allow for multiple play-throughs in return.

Exciting, scary and silly, all in one.

It’ll take you at least 5 hours before you’re done.

Off to find more secrets, I go.

There is much more of the plot, I need to know.

But there is one final note, for me to leave.

A grade of 7/10, this piece of art will receive.

And a word of advice, as you choose who will live or die.

Good:

Very fun with friends. Your choices can affect each other’s characters and you can mess around a lot.

Voice acting was well done.

The graphics look pretty.

There is a lot of action.

Bad:

The game isn’t scary.

Quick time events don’t do anything most of the time, and failing them doesn’t affect the outcome of the scene. When this is noticed you are unimmersed.

Some dialogue choices aren’t well enough presented so you pick what initially sounds good, but then the character says something completely different than you intended.

This “game” will last you around 5 minutes at best, isn’t scary, isn’t fun and actually, isn’t even really much of a game. The trailer is far more entertaining.

i had recently seen a youtuber play this i had to check it out ! i thought all his jumping and shrieking was all for show but after playing this wow shit made me jump outa my skin when i got caught the only thing so far i have to say is maybe put some kind of map in there to reference not one that stays on the screen as i know thats part of the thrill of the game . but also i could be wrong but the colors to fix the electricity was a little odd for me but over all cant wait for more !!!! would be cool to interact with more objects maybe start a fire in the power house as a diversion or something but great game so far cant wait to see whats next

Loving the game so far! It really has me wondering what´s real and what isn´t and i´m really looking forward to seeing how to story progresses. The gameplay is mostly very smooth, but i do have a couple problems with it.

Mainly the fact that there´s no map or no way to know where you are and have to rely on pure memory, which kinda sucks for me since i tend to forget new things such as the geography of a place rather quickly, so it was a bit hard to navigate through the park since i didn´t know where i had to go, so i think it would be a good idea to implement a map of sorts as an item, but without telling you exactly where you are, just the general geography of the place. The second problem was a bug that threw me off a bit a while after i began spoilers ahead for those who haven´t played it. After i grabbed Sam´s phone on the ground, after walking around for a minute or two, the phone appeared again on the ground and i picked it up again, which made the dialogues mix up and be interrupted by one another, basically giving me a hard time to understand what was going on. I´d appreaciate it if you could fix it so future players don´t have the same problem i did when trying to understand what´s going on.

Martha Is Dead

Martha Is Dead is a dark first-person psychological thriller, set in 1944 Italy, that blurs the lines between reality, superstition and the tragedy of war.

As conflict intensifies between German and Allied forces, the desecrated body of a woman is found drowned… Martha!

Martha is dead, and her twin sister Giulia, the young daughter of a German soldier, must alone deal with the acute trauma of loss and the fallout from her murder. The hunt for the truth is shrouded by mysterious folklore and the extreme horror of war that draws ever closer.

What will prevail?

I Saw Black Clouds

I Saw Black Clouds

I Saw Silver Linings

It doesn’t show its hand until it will have tested the patience of many, but I think in the pantheon of modern FMV titles it’s sufficiently interesting to recommend (with some caveats).

Consider me an avid indie FMV game dabbler . Over time I’ve realised that the real beauty of such interactive films, much like VR games, isn’t that they continuously break new ground towards some singularity future entertainment form. It’s that indie creator spirit that flows through their design and writing and all the quirks and eccentricities that come with that. I’m British, so I always love the underdog.

Real player with 9.6 hrs in game

As a big fan of FMV games, I give this a 6 out of 10. So a mild recommendation mostly for other fans of the genre. There are just too many elements here that could be improved on to rate it any higher, some of which have been mentioned in other reviews.

There are some tracked playthrough stats like tact and honesty that are poorly explained in relation to the game, to the point I don’t think they have any impact other than reflecting choices you’ve made. There’s no situation where you aren’t tactful enough to continue down a certain path or anything like that. But at the same time there are the stats of denial and acceptance that determine your ending. So some of the stats matter and some don’t and that’s never really made clear.

The Narrator Is a DICK

The Narrator Is a DICK

Because I voiced the narrator in this game, I am going to attempt to stay as unbiased as possible. Again, ATTEMPT!

The Narrator is a ♥♥♥♥ is your standard difficult platformer that, as quite a few have mentioned, is very similar to games like Kaizo Mario and I Wanna Be The Guy. Right from the very start, I rips a page right out of the I Wanna Be The Guy playbook. With a set of spikes on one side, and a apple that comes down on you like a great god above and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ destroys you, and every fibre of your being. And in the title, it already tells you what the game is about, and what it has; an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ narrator.

The Narrator is a DICK

From a single playthrough perspective I think most people who have viewed the trailer and perhaps read reviews of “The Narrator is a DICK” before purchasing it will be left satisfied with the game. The game is exactly as the trailer portrays. A challenging unfair platformer with an often lude and sadistic narrator who accompanies your player from start to finish. The comedy and gameplay catered to me perfectly.

Now, I enjoyed my first playthrough enough to play it again.. and again and again until I finally earned all achievements for the game. Having played this game a lot (probably more than I should have) I did notice that this game is not very friendly to the other masochists out there that are willing to torture themselves until they too earn the “HOW?!?” achievement (for those who do not already know, this achievement is unlocked after completing the entire game without dying).

I absolutely love this. ❤

I’m addicted to cyberpunk-virtual-trippy-worlds and stories. This game served it’s topic very well to me. I almost felt like coming home, getting a hug by neon colors and getting petted by sweet grafic glitches. I’ve played so much crap the last days, so now i probably sound like a freak… but… who cares 😁

The different world maps are big and beautiful, no doubt they were crafted with care. A solid piece of work, easy to handle and user-friendly, but still challenging. 3D platforming may be hard, but to me it was relaxing for some reason, even if i died a few times.

I do recommend playing this prologue but PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE THE CABIN IS. I stopped playing because I couldn’t find the cabin after over half an hour of wandering around. Overall, I liked this prologue and I am curious to see what the developers do with it because they do not have a release date set. To me, that means that they have a lot of development that they still expect to do, which probably means lots of changes.

https://youtu.be/AwTYHmqIvAU

The cabin was game-breaking for me because it’s the equivalent of a quest where they tell you to find a needle in a haystack- no one wants to do it. I can even see the cabin in a screenshot on this Steam store page but I don’t remember ever seeing it in the game.
