Incarnata: Dormant Stories

Incarnata: Dormant Stories

Incarnata is a text-based game where everything is procedurally generated: offering an incredible depth, within an infinite world.

Dive into this adventure simulation and become everything you decide to be. The game adapts and builds challenges, creates unique characters, places, and goals for you to weave your own story.

Gameplay depth

Will you aim for your enemy’s throat or maybe their left eye? Will the memory of this fight stop your character from sleeping tonight? Are you wearing enough layers of clothes to protect you from the cold? Create your own story by playing with an unprecedented level of depth.

Procedural everything

Everything in Incarnata is generated by a complex algorithm. The world, the items you find, but also the story you are going to live through. Love, Betrayal, Twists, and Challenges are all handled by an algorithm meant to always keep you on your toes.

Extremely moddable

About everything in the game can be changed. Play as a human in a medieval fantasy world, a cyber human in a dystopian future, a wild animal with godly powers. Anything you can think of, the game can be made to play.

As a modder, you are able to change the world the players will explore but also the very actions that are at their disposal. Incarnata works as the platform where your dream world will come to life.

Your custom-made content is incorporated within the procedural generation algorithm, allowing creators to be players in their own world.

The game is awesome. I had fun playing and making different decisions for my games and felt addicted at some stages. Non-game developers will definitely get an idea and insights into the game development process after playing this game.

Gamedev Beatdown is a turn based action rpg game with a quirky story depicting development of games in the gaming industry.

The game revolves around different playable characters from different departments of the gaming industry and gives the player a unique incite into the decision making that goes into making a game.

Even though you will end up making difficult choices that can impact your game in terms of sales or customer satisfaction, the game has a pun based humorous dialogue lines that will make you laugh and make the tough decisions look trivial.

Wizards and Warlords

This is the good stuff. I have 13 hours played and I started playing it less than 36 hours ago. It gets the ‘one more turn’ feel just right, and has enough depth to keep things interesting, but is a bit un-optimized in terms of interface and mechanical transparency.

The Dev (yeah, the one dude making it on his own) is basically the paragon that all early access devs should try to be, constantly pushing updates and tweaks and engaging the community in respectful and productive discourse with humility and ingenuity. His turnaround time on new ideas is alarmingly fast, which is why there are multiple patches every week.

I very much wanted to this game to be great. The references to Dominion but with a different take on it.

There’s so much in the game, cool thought out magic, cool proc gen world, cool city development, cool leader development. But it’s so shallow. I didn’t care about any of my leaders, all the cities were functionally the same.

And the list of resources is insane. There’s a ton of resources to be gathering, but most have only a single use. It’s annoying to play a Fae wizard, get herbs and fairy dust, and have little use for it. You chase more resources until you realize you have no use for mithril. I’d rather have a smaller more concentrated list of resources that did something.

Road 96 🛣️

Full video review: https://youtu.be/qJ7308la4hI

Summarized version below!

I consume way too many of these narrative-driven games for my own good, but I’m always on the lookout for one that tries to do something new, something cool - so I was excited to give Road 96 a look.

Note: Trimmed review to fit character limit, check video for full version!

Gameplay:

Road 96 is basically a more involved “choose your own adventure”-type game. There are decisions to make and these decisions end up affecting what path you go down and what ending you get. You don’t just play as one protagonist, but multiple. There is a small cast of recurring characters you will meet along this journey and that’s where the meat of the game lies.

This is the model that all walking simulators should follow from now on.

It’s really good. Like most “choice” based games, no, there isn’t as much variety in actual gameplay as was originally suggested in the trailer. Many of the games roughly 200-300 conversations play out similarly in one playthrough to the next, but they may occur at different points in your journeys, and with different people. I would say that is better than most of these types of games allow…think Life is Strange, Firewatch etc, where you are on rails for pretty much the entire game and there are only changes in the flavor text as a result of your meticulously thought over actions.

Fog Factory - Game Maker

I expected much more. This Game-Maker sadly suffers from a lack of ambition and creative thought. The UI design is lacking, the audio rarely works and the game is incredibly imbalanced. Hopefully in the future this can be improved, although that may take a lot of work.

Pipe Dreamin' VR: The Big Easy

A clever combination of VR puzzle games and VR climbing games.

I was a fan of the old 2D puzzlers Pipe Mania and Pipe Dream, and this is a worthy VR successor. If you can tolerate a few minor imperfections and you are driven by steam achievements then it’s a fun 2.5 hours of 3D puzzling. For some strange reason it started as a slide show and I had to turn my SteamVR resolution down to 1700 x 1700 before my RTX 3060ti would make 90 fps on my Vive Pro 2, yet it still looked full resolution.

Curious Expedition

Curious Expedition

The Curious Expedition is yet another Kickstarter-spawned entry into the ever-growing field of Rogue-Likes, but with a refreshing new twist. This time around, the player takes on the role of a small party of 19th-Century explorers engaged in a gentleman’s wager - to travel the world on six concurrent expeditions, competing to see who can gain the most fame. It’s a fairly quick and lethal game, but that’s exactly what it’s meant to be - a good way to kill a few hours at a time, running expedition after expedition off to their doom.

The Short Pitch

TCE is one of the best games in its class, a Roguelike-inspired strategy/adventure game that will leave you wanting more. Easy enough to beat several times in one day if you’re dedicated, yet hard enough to make every victory feel like you clawed your way to it from the depths of hades.

If you’re looking at this game and you’re even half sure you want it, get it. If looking at it fills with you a warm and gooey sense of longing for the hours spent huddled around CRT monitors taking turns playing The Oregon Trail, buy it. Even if you’re a more modern gamer, but you’re a fan of FTL, Caves of Qud, the Binding of Isaac, or similar, buy it.

"Starr Mazer: DSP" is a horizontal shoot-'em-up where the player controls a squad of fighter pilots, each fighter having their own characteristics such as power, speed, and rate of fire. Gameplay is typical of the genre: it consists in eliminating several consecutive waves of enemies with a climax battle at the end of each stage. Some enemies drop orbs upon being destroyed, which can be collected for points ("sk:ore"). These points can be spent to buy new pilots should your current squad be completely wiped out.
