It doesn’t show its hand until it will have tested the patience of many, but I think in the pantheon of modern FMV titles it’s sufficiently interesting to recommend (with some caveats).

Consider me an avid indie FMV game dabbler . Over time I’ve realised that the real beauty of such interactive films, much like VR games, isn’t that they continuously break new ground towards some singularity future entertainment form. It’s that indie creator spirit that flows through their design and writing and all the quirks and eccentricities that come with that. I’m British, so I always love the underdog.

As a big fan of FMV games, I give this a 6 out of 10. So a mild recommendation mostly for other fans of the genre. There are just too many elements here that could be improved on to rate it any higher, some of which have been mentioned in other reviews.

There are some tracked playthrough stats like tact and honesty that are poorly explained in relation to the game, to the point I don’t think they have any impact other than reflecting choices you’ve made. There’s no situation where you aren’t tactful enough to continue down a certain path or anything like that. But at the same time there are the stats of denial and acceptance that determine your ending. So some of the stats matter and some don’t and that’s never really made clear.

Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure

Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure

I have been a fan of Tex Murphy since Under a Killing Moon – nearly twenty years! That said, I will not do this game or the community a disservice by writing anything less than a fully honest review. The game succeeds far more often than it fails, but is far from perfect, so I will not score it 10 out of nostalgia, or 0 out of disappointment.

First, let me give this game a score out of ten. In my opinion, it falls somewhere around 7.5. I think this game will please Tex fans and newcomers alike, even if it isn’t perfect. If you like a good story or adventure games, then check this one out. If you like it, I highly recommend trying out Tex’s past adventures.

As a Tex Murphy fan, I was stoked after hearing about the newest installment, and boy was I eager to play! But after playing half-way through, I found myself questioning whether I should even bother finishing the game. It was only through sheer force of will and a weird, nostalgic obligation, that I managed to see it through to the end. sigh So where to begin?

Let’s first talk about the things it did well:

Revisiting Chandler Avenue and reuniting with the old cast was a treat for old Tex Murphy fans like myself. And honestly, I didn’t mind the mediocre graphics, as it felt reminiscent of the old Tex Murphy games. The FMV sequences were well-done for the most part, and I enjoyed exploring areas without running into loading screens or having to change discs. (I know I’m throwing a bone here, but it’s the little things that count, right?) Unfortunately, that’s where the good ends. Now on to my personal gripes:

Killing Stream

Killing Stream is a feature-length, interactive thriller with horror elements, in which fate of the main character depends entirely on the viewer. It tells the story from a first person perspective to intensify the immersion and put audience in the main character’s shoes.

Really amazing piece of art, do not undermine it’s simple nature. This game makes you think you know whats going on, then proceeds to shatter your expectations. It takes story telling to another level, truly taking you in a journey of wits. Every single choice you make impacts your outcome, everything you think you know, is wrong. Especially on your second play through. Don’t bother restarting because you messed up your choice.

Amazing and literally all what I’ve been waiting for! For a while I never thought Buff Studio would really adapt 7Days for PC, but here we are, enjoying this amazing game on HD on Steam.

I still plan on finishing the entire game and reliving every path on the game. The new art is AMAZING and never fails to amaze me. Gosh, I really missed seeing Kirell on the original artstyle. I can’t wait to see what more new things I can find!

I really hope with 7Days on Steam, the game grow on popularity. 7Days really deserves recognition and I would be glad to welcome new fans with open arms. Thanks for creating this awesome game Buff Studio!

Well… it’s something.

The game only has 5 “game modes” which consist of something non-sensical and boring, there isn’t really anything “relaxing” or satisfying about them. The music cannot be adjusted and is pretty loud. Honestly it just feels like a school project from 2005 done by two students that just served to be presented infront of a class and then forgotten. Definetly not worth the money, I got it from a steam gift
