Young Souls

Young Souls

As orphans, Jenn and Tristan’s life path brought them to a mysterious scientist, who took them in and cared for them as his own children. But one day, he disappeared under very odd circumstances.

While searching desperately for him, the duo found a hidden cellar and the Moon Gate portal, transporting them to a dangerous parallel world where goblins thrive.

Your adventure begins as you fight to bridge these two very different worlds.

● Play a dynamic & deep side-scrolling RPG beat‘em up as Jenn and Tristan, solo or in co-op, as you explore the four unique biomes of the goblins' twisted world and the stylish world of the humans.

● Customise your combat gear by unlocking & upgrading hundreds of weapons, armour sets and accessories, to save the world as you know it.

● Unlock unexpected story paths as you fight your way through dozens of epic dungeons, hordes of enemies and over 20 fearsome bosses in the goblin realm.

● Young Souls combines the classic beat‘em up and story-rich role-playing genres through a beautifully crafted story, and in a world crafted with stunning art direction.

Fighting goblins is not as easy as fighting the weight machine at Happy Fit. Combat is punishing and demanding, but you’ll be rewarded with loot chests, which will help you forget the injuries you suffer on the battlefield.

There are tons of possible combinations that vary the stats of your equipment, weapons and the gameplay of your character. Adopting an attacking, defensive or balanced strategy is easy for anyone who dares venture to the land of goblins.

Brawling with enemies obviously means epic boss fights that will make you sweat.

Young Souls is a journey between two worlds, each one full of experiences and encounters that will shape the character and fate of our heroes.

After a well-deserved nap, you can hit the gym at Happy Fit and improve your statistics to gain more strength, resistance and stamina.

If you’re not too stiff, make sure to pay a visit to Solid Sneakers to get yourself the best kicks in town that will give you style and boost your characters' stats on the battleground. Teen Spirit shop is also open to those who need a makeover or just purchase a cool hat that fits with your brand-new sneakers.

When you are done with having fun, it’s time to kit yourself out from head to toe and enter the world of goblins – the place you want to be to bash some skulls and find the professor. Mobs of enemies will be waiting for you with spears and swords in the vain hope it will be enough to stop you…

Your job is to he Reynardo find the “true ending.” By doing that, you make choices on what you think might be the right one to choose, and you go into that level. There are 24 ending in the game

Bastion

Bastion

Lie on my back

Clouds are makin' way for me

I’m comin' home, sweet home

~Darren Korb, Setting Sail, Coming Home

In my reviews I often talk about just how many developers treat their games like products. Well, technically, those are the products, of course, but… you can’t create anything really beautiful just by doing your job. If you’ll do your job good enough, you may come up with a really good product, but that’ll be just that. A product. While we all know that video games can be… something more than that. Much more. When Miller brothers started creating their MYST? It wasn’t because they wanted to make a popular game. Heck, they weren’t even gamers. They just had that certain vision and they really wanted to turn it into reality. To share it with the others. To let the others dive into it and experience it together. And it’s not just words. You can clearly feel such things. From Westwood Studious' magical worlds of The Legend of Kyrandia and Lands of Lore to Cyberdreams’s I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, based on Harlan Ellison’s short story. That certain artistic touch? That special something that makes a game more than just a game? As long as you treasure it as much as I do, I want to introduce you to one of my most favorite independent developers. Please, welcome – Supergiant Games.

Bastion 2012

When Bastion came out it was at the beginning of the Indie craze. People were first starting to realize that amazingly fun games could come from tiny studios with no budget. Well now in 2017 the term Indie game has all but lost its meaning both financially, and terms of team size. But at the time, a game with such deep combat, definitive flavor, and overall polish was a treat.

Bastion does a good job of grabbing you with the colorful paint-style world that appears beneath your feet as you move forward. Every action you do is narrated by a grandfatherly voice that explains the story and smaller moments. There was a time early in the game when I walked off the edge of the platforms and the narrator said “And that’s the end of the Kid’s story….I’m just kidding.” And I respawn and he says “The kid goes back for another round.” It was a charming break of the 3rd wall.

Numina

Numina

Step through the 4th Wall…

…into the world of NUMINA. You get in contact with Shawn who is able to hear your voice through the 4th wall! You meet in a very critical moment where Shawn loses someone very close to him while being swept up in a conspiracy that involves your mutual bond. A plot threatening to shake the foundations of the world.

Your bond will be tested in an exciting adventure that fuses many classic RPG aspects: A character-driven story in which your relationships change the course of the story, a dynamic battle system, challenging puzzles, towns waiting to be explored and other exciting locations!

Key Features

  • Breaking the 4th Wall

The 4th wall is a concept from theater where the actors on stage directly interact with the audience. In the same fashion, you partake in the story of Numina as a character in the form of a bodiless voice that only Shawn can hear - a guardian spirit. You can interact with Shawn and influence his decisions through dialogue choices in the game.

  • Branching Decisions

The decisions you make influences the relationship Shawn has with the other characters you’ll meet in the game. Having good relationships with your party members unlocks powerful combo-attacks in battle and may open up the opportunity to take your relationship to the next level ♥ Your decisions also influence the overall course of the story to conclude into one of the four possible endings.

  • Battle with the Elements

Engage in a round-based combat system with action inputs for some attacks that require you to make timed inputs for maximum damage! Each character also has unique elemental abilities to exploit enemy weaknesses. Incorporate this into your strategy to quickly win battles.

  • Explore the World of Alterna

Most side quests in NUMINA allow you to dive deeper into the backstory and lore of the world. But you can also explore the beautiful scenery with your grappling hook to reach higher places and find new gear, spell scrolls or rare items.

POST LAUNCH SUPPORT

I’ve left my original review at the bottom, as I believe it’s important to remember the state this game originally launched. However, since launch, a FREE update has alleviated my two greatest concerns with this game. Firstly, and less importantly, you can now revisit previous Omens once new Omens are unlocked. Originally, you could miss half the game simply from choosing the right branches in each gameplay loop, and while later weeks leave it rather obvious who the right choices are and in what order, during the first loop you just don’t know enough and could have easily locked yourself out of early content. This has since been patched, with you being able to choose exactly which route you want to pursue with each character before you start the day. Still would have liked an option to abort a day though.

“Urralia. A prosperous land, home to many tribes. The gods entrusted the Bird tribe to watch over the others. The tribe founded Pygaria, and all lived in harmony under the banner of the Pygarian Empire. Until seven years ago, when Pygaria began recruiting the Dog and Cat tribes. As their strength grew, the other tribes suffered. To protect themselves from Pygarian oppression, the scattered Rodent and Bear tribes formed an alliance, led by a rebel names Ratika. Tonight, the Pygarian Empire launches a brutal assault on the Rodentian capital under orders of Emperor Indrik. When the capital falls, his conquest of Urralia will be complete. And far from the front lines, one who could have brought peace, the Godless - Priestess Vera, has been murdered. In her absence, there is no one left to protect Urralia and its people. The end times are near. Urralia needs a savior.”
