A very big plus of the game is that the world is generated in a new way every time. The game is quite addictive, it’s a pity that you can’t change the volume, you can only turn it on or off. The game itself is difficult, I could only reach level 3. In general, you can play, only dear enough, according to the rules.

Demon Runner The Forsaken

Demon Runner The Forsaken

Lucky me gets to write the first (and possibly only) review for Demon Runner The Forsaken. This game was intended to be a 2D retro “Metroidvania” style platformer with speedrunning elements. As the screenshots show, the graphics would have been pretty bad.

I say “would have been” because this game cannot be played. The developer has accidentally or deliberately blanked the game manifest, so no files are downloaded when you install the game, and attempting to launch the game results in a “missing executable” error.

An excellent indie platformer in a classic 2D style and beautiful pixel graphics. Each level is randomly regenerated, even if you pass 1 level several times, each level will have a completely new map, which I have not seen in other games of this genre, and this distinguishes this game from the rest, that it will not be boring :) Nice relaxing music … Easy control, you can kill different monsters, and there are a lot of them here, from crawling to flying :)

It’s interesting to play, but it’s a pity there is no progress of some kind, and the levels all start over from the first, after death, but new, unique ones. I would also like to have added control from the gamepad and more achievements for a longer time in the game :)

A benevolent AI called D.I.A.N.E. will be your guide as you traverse the landscape and learn more about this strange sensation called “being alive”.

Godstone

Godstone

Godstone is a 2D roguelike dungeoncrawler, where you take the role of 5 different sorcerers, delving into the Ruins of Virithian to uncover the ancient Godstone. An intrument said to hold immense dark power.

But time is short, as a religious circle known as the Siratic Order hunts the Godstone as well, plotting to use it to end all sorcerers. Time is short, and you must fight your way through the ancient halls to get to the Godstone before the Order, or you and all your kind will be lost.

GAMEPLAY

  • Explore Virithian: find secret rooms and hidden doors, leading to anything from spells to items to power-ups. Exploration is greatly rewarded.

  • Forge synergies: Synergy is the backbone to power in Godstone. Unleash devastating effects upon your foes through combos with spells, enhanced by items and skills.

  • Fight massive bosses: Test yourself in the battle against massive bosses larger than the room itself. With a final boss at each area including multiple minibosses, there is plenty of epic battles awaiting within the wailing ruins.

  • Grow stronger each death: Upon death, you start from the beginning. However, whenever you die you gain points to spend in the Bloodtree based on how well you performed. With it, you can forge your own strategies, growing stronger each death.

Devious Dungeon 2

Devious Dungeon 2

As usual, Woblyware delivers fun pixel graphics for enemy units and NPCs. This game is a good sequel to Devious Dungeon 1. Definitely an upgrade. The first game was way too easy. In Devious Dungeon 2, the enemies are a little more challenging and that makes the game more fun. I still don’t understand the scatter of coins. It is the same as the first game. The coins fly all over the place. So annoying. I never understood why the first game had it and I was hoping it would be fixed in Devious Dungeon 2. But it’s not. Your precious coins will keep flying into spikes. Would have been good to have the coins drawn to you automatically like the magnet feature that some games have.

It’s true that this game is based on a previous one, obviously the one called the “Devious Dungeon”. But so what? The core gameplay is the same as always – it’s your next door platformer. This time it has a twist – you can select one of three heroes, slightly altering the gameplay. We have a Barbarian (with incoming damage reduction), a Rogue (with double jump ability) and a Wizard (with levitation spell). Tell me, when did you play a platformer with such a feature? Jazz Jackrabbit 2? Well… It’s from 1998… Yea, I know – there are others ;) I’m just trying to point out that it’s rare, ok? So let’s move on. I chose Rogue, and it was… fun ;) I could avoid most of the traps, it gave me a degree of freedom. On your way you gain cash and experience, which means you can upgrade your hero. I ended up with 100+ damage per standard hit and 60-something critical hit (double damage) chance percent… And yes, I bulldozed last half of main bosses. The last boss barely made me pass 100 HP threshold on my side. The point is – in this game you can over-level a bit, so it’s always a matter of time when you’ll finish it. And you don’t have to beat it all at once – the are checkpoints to which you can travel, to continue your adventure or to decrease stage difficulty if the new one is too hard for you to beat it at given time. Overall it isn’t so entertaining that I would consider playing it again with another class. I haven’t even unlocked all items and I don’t think I’ll play this game just to see what’s there. I beat it, have all achievements – and let’s stay at this level. Buy it if you liked the first game, like platformers in general – or you have some spare coins. It’s nothing special, nothing revolutionary, just few (more) hours of fun :) I enjoyed it from start to finish :)

Shadowcrypt

Shadowcrypt

Excellent game for anyone looking for a game that’s simple but challenging.

Shadowcrypt feels very retro in all the best ways: Simple controls, a manual with valuable game knowledge, no long tutorial, and the best part: its replay value comes from not the length of the game or a plethura of features and modes, but the sheer challenge of finishing the game (and getting achievements).

To clear things up:

This is a combat-based platformer, meaning that if you don’t learn the timing and dynamics of the combat, you won’t get very far. Understanding that this is by design and is meant to be adapted to is essential to enjoying and completing Shadowcrypt.

I don’t know why so many people are having problems with this game. I read comments about how this is super hard and people would go days in between battles. All you have to do is duck attacks and use your sword on the enemy’s legs. Also, the use of the shield in this game is better than any other game I can think of. Use your shield! It even deflects arrows and wizard’s fireballs like in Zelda games.

I also saw comments about not knowing what the different shields are for. On the right side of this page, there’s a link to the game’s instruction manual. It tells what the shields do. The red shield has a chance to cause damage when swung at an enemy. The blue shield has a chance to stun/confuse when swung at an enemy. The purple shield has a chance to double knockback when swung at an enemy.
