Grimoire : Heralds of the Winged Exemplar (V2)

Grimoire : Heralds of the Winged Exemplar (V2)

Grimoire is a tile based dungeon crawler that seeks to mimic Wizardry 7, one of the staples of the genre.

While it suffers from the usual problems a game made by a single person would… like some numbers needing to be tweaked here and there, some flags to be set for an item or an NPC, some UI quality of life additions… While all that, it manages to be a game game. A real game.

Today the market is overflowing with many Don Quijote’s setting off to create one spiritual sequel after the other and the results are sadly vaporware. Not this game. This game is a game game. Was Arcanum buggy on release ? Yes. Knights of the Old Republic 2 ? Sure. VTMB:Bloodlines ? Most definitely. That didn’t change the fact that they were squarely over that boundary that sets apart hobby projects and professional games. And Grimoire is too.

I really wish I hadn’t bought this game. Yes, I’m going to be a wee bit harsh. All this game does is teach you lessons in futility and frustration. I can’t even begin to tell you all of the myriad and varying ways this game has stacked the deck against the player to make the game more or less impossible. Oh, I know some people have logged a lot of hours - but either they’re playing the same starting area over and over thinking they’ll win eventually (they won’t) or they are the die-hards who enjoy banging their heads against immovable objects all day or - they’ve found ways to hack the game and cheat. Keep in mind that I am willing to edit my review and give it a thumbs-up should the dev change some of these annoying mechanics, but I get the impression the dev would rather slam his fingers repeatedly in his car door than admit to there being something wrong with his game. (Just kidding, dev!)

Well, we can throw dynamite in this game. Usually throwing dynamite under your feet would be a stupid idea but hey, this is a video game. And yes, it gets boring after 5 minutes.

Beside that this a logical game with a bit of platforming where you need to gather all of the pot items (whatever that is) and get back to the entrance after that. You have a limited amount of dynamite that you need to use to detonate dark blue blocks in order to gather items or find a way back.

Not much more to write about this one, really.

This is a fairly austere looking indie puzzle platformer that requires you to collect bags of gold in a two-dimensional upright grid based playfield by jumping around and blasting obstacles with a finite amount of dynamite. This limited resource adds a strategy layer to an otherwise unexciting game.

The visuals are not what I would expect in this kind of game. I think the designer was trying for a puzzle game “feel” in a 2.5D action game aesthetic. The underground cavern background is nice, but the rectangular playfield is suspended in the air like a bunch of stacked blocks in an ant farm. It would look better If it was attached to the ground and background as if it was hewn out of the earth. It would look equally better if it was surrounded by a border like a browser-based puzzle game. Trying to do both (or neither - I honestly can’t tell) fails on many levels. The graphics are downright jarring.

This game just keeps going. At least as much content after “finishing” the game as before. Really well put together 3!

I was not expecting to wholeheartedly enjoy this game as much as I did. From the amazing soundtrack to the laugh-out-loud humor (not even joking) to the real sense of growth in power as you progress, this game will remain near the top of my list for indie games for years. Best of all, you can feel the passion from the creator with every line of dialogue.

If the price is a bit daunting for you, I’d definitely recommend it on sale.

Overall I’d give this game a 8.5/10 - a game I would highly recommend, and I hope to see more from this developer in the future.

Guess there isn’t much to explain about this game, if you like dunggeon click adventure adult games with lose ero scenes then you know what to expect without getting into too much detail. Game is very similar to the lightning raidy games. I found the difficulty just right, you will learn from losing fights on how to counter, but gold is easy to find so you will not ever have a problem finding yourself out of potions. there’s some back tracking to areas you can’t get to till you have certain skills or the right character in your party. There isn’t any feel of having to grind monsters to advance or have it create artifical game length

Lilipalace is a first person dungeon crawler RPG made by the japanese developer TUNNEL no.73 and published along with Kagura Games.

The game is set in a world of fiction where we will help Seria and her comrades uncover the truth behind the labyrinth as we get closer and closer to its depths. There’s a few tips you might want to know before you start playing it, first and most obvious, make good use of the map, and the most efficient way to do this while you play is, instead of the arrow keys, moving using WASD so you’re more comfortable holding the mouse with your right hand to open the map with the right click instead of using the in-game menu. That’s all you need to play the game, WASD and the two mouse buttons.

The game’s real enjoyable, great graphics and good gameplay. Game itself has a decent skill curve which players can master with enough hours put in. Definitely would recommend the game to all FPS fans out there as well as newcomers.

Decent rpgmaker game with a surprising amount of class choices, not only for the companions, but for the main character as well. All with different skills. The maps are large and filled with secrets.

But the whole game is being dragged down by 2 major pains in the ass. The ridiculous frequency of the random encounters and limited line of sight. Exploring everything, trying to do all the quests and finding all the secrets is a huge chore. Even though most of the time you can reliably skip encounters sometimes you get them literally every 3 steps. The game constantly wastes your time. As for the line of sight there are a lot of areas where you can see in a small radius around you and that’s only if you have a torch. Trying to navigated labyrinths when you can’t see shit only leads to unnecessary back tracking and constant encounters. There are items to prevent encounters, but along side torches you will have to keep opening and navigating through the menu. Either way it’s constant interruptions and pointless hindrances. The game is so much better in well lit areas or in areas without random encounters. I know I’ve missed 2 bosses and an important quest, but I can’t possibly be arsed to go again through previous areas.

Honestly, I expected more from the game, I didn’t like the music and there’s little gacha in common, the world didn’t like it either, it’s kind of open but at the same time empty

Yes, sometimes I want to spend an evening playing a game dedicated to my guilty pleasure. Perhaps someday I would like to have all the gachimuchi games in my library. As for this particular one, one of the advantages is minimalistic graphics, which allows you to run the game on any computer, the presence of game achievements, and my favorite sounds from the gachi. Nevertheless, the developer still has a lot of work to do.

After playing this game for quite a bit, I’ve got to say it’s quite enjoyable. Definitely a roguelike (not a fake, free-roaming one, but an actual turn-based, punishing, strategize before-hand one), and an enjoyable one at that. Don’t expect to walk in and start killing everything, because chances are if you’re new to the genre (or even a bit experienced like myself), you’ll still die a dozen times before you get the hang of it. Learning it is easy enough; mastering it is quite difficult. One of the things I really enjoyed was having dungeons created based off the files I chose from my folder.

Real player with 30.0 hrs in game

I truly want to enjoy this game, but the lack of guidance is concerning. As this is an early access game, it is understandable if a lot of the features or the UI is incomplete, but there is a lot of things that is missing from the game to actually guide the player.

Now, I am not asking for the game to become a linear, hand holding game that it will never be. It’s not in the style of the game, but the game itself doesn’t provide any assistance with complex actions such as quests and crafting. It would be more likely that I end up never completing a quest or crafting an item.
