Sakura Dungeon

Sakura Dungeon

Reviewer’s Foreword: Despite my negative recommendation, this review is actually meant to be mixed. In fact, I’d actually recommend this game (It’s one of my favorites), but ONLY with some mods installed to really make it shine.

–————————

When I 1st heard of Sakura Dungeon from one of the people that I subscribed to on YouTube (specifically GullOfDoom , my interest was piqued, so I checked out other YouTubers' playthroughs of the game (including LudaAaGames, TheLPBandit, Lost Pause, TheTwitGamer, and Negark to name a few). From my 1st impressions of the game from other YouTube LPers, I found that the battle system of Sakura Dungeon (and its spiritual predecessor, Demon Master Chris), despite how shallow it was, was innovative, and a more tactical alternative to the kinds of rpg battle systems that you’d find in games like Final Fantasy or Pokemon. Although I was never interested in visual novel games in general, I eventually decided to purchase Sakura Dungeon for myself. Little did I realize is that the game was so moddable that you could, say, flesh out the battle system to really make it shine, which was what I did when I made my Abyssal Makeover mod , or add more dialogue to characters like in my Additional Dialogue mod .

The early access version was confusing and limited. But now the full version is out and its actually pretty good.

Make sure the DLC is installed and go to the settings menu and faff around changing the language to English. Once you’ve done that its a entertaining game, with great art and H content.

You start in a mysterious fog and have to make your way around a map avoiding enemies on routine pattern patrols. In the fog you can find skeletons with various hints and the occasional female adventurer/witch/monster and items/gifts to help you.

Girls and Dungeons

Girls and Dungeons

Extremely worth it, and goes past its own price.

A simple but very enjoyable RPG. I’d say, if you’d like a cute adventure game that has a nice story, simple plot that works out so well (Meaning it’s not all over the place) and you like picking girls up from dungeons, this is a game for you.

(+18 Patch is up for download, if you’re at age)

The evil water cave puzzle has been defeated! Happy days are here again! :D It’s being patched to be made a little more obvious for us dumb people, and the solution was actually super simple all along. (I put the exact directions on the forum too just in case.)

So! Now to give the game the review it actually deserves. Girls and Dungeons is fun. It’s not about some amnesiac hero whose village burned down and has to now go save the world, it’s about some guy who wants to do lewd things with special maidens. The game’s humour mostly revolves around lewdness and alcohol, but not to an overbearing degree and there are plenty of other bits of fun to be had too. (Like taking damage from electric eels and hornet stingrays. Fishing is dangerous in the world of Girls and Dungeons. o.o)

The Heiress

The Heiress

DON’T SUPPORT THIS SCUMMY PUBLISHER!

The heiress is a hrpg game made in RPG maker by a fairly good doujin circle ONEONE1. Unfortunately, it has been published by one of the worst possible publishers SakuraGame/Paradise Project. In effect, the localisation is horrible. The translation is on google translate level at best. Hence, the plot is very hard to follow, and often unintelligible.

The plot itself is pretty average even considering low budget. There are no unexpected twists or any deeper moments. 8 endings provide some variety but some of them are barely distinct. The main characters lack depth and some secondary ones have no backstory at all. They just are.

As far as an RPG game, this is actually pretty good (I usually expect the worst from RPGmaker games). It’s lengthy and provides a lot of branches in the plot, parts of the world felt like they expanded and progressed as the character did which made it feel more alive. There are some minor graphical glitches when dealing with sprites on the map. And the English translation could definitely be better but I have played with far far worse, just the usual missing words that you usually get when dealing with translation.

To The Light

To The Light

Quite simple 2D (RPGMaker?) RPG without leveling and with real time fights right on the map. In order to progress you have to collect gear and buffs. Be careful with item buffs because they are NOT infinite in uses and you may lose them permanently. You can use them again to temporary disable. For example, you may want to disable items when breaking large rotating crystals since they will explode, harm you and break a few buff items. And you have to break at least some of these to progress. Probably the most important buff is shield since I haven’t found where yo restock it and it opens paths blocked with spikes. A couple of secrets, a few easter eggs and multiple endings… well, kinda. You just either do everything right or end up with a wrong one. Don’t rush collecting all quantum piece, though, or you won’t be able to get 2 achievements for the wrong endings. Save often in different slots and you should be fine. Music is nice, art is pretty, story is bizarre and shown mostly with environment and short in-game animations. In case you desire more kinky stuff install both nude patches (look on community hub). Does it actually worth a full price? Not quite sure, but it ain’t bad. With good discount might worth to pick up.

This game could have been much better if it did not give conflicting information to the player.

For example some enemies you could hit, while others you can’t and you get hurt when you attack them. There is no indication that could help you identify this, so you have to experiment and lose lifes and restart or load again.

Another example is that some rocks could hurt you when you try to push them or hit them, while others don’t. Again how would the player know? many other example exists but I think these two gives a clear idea.

To be fair, this game surprised me quite a lot by it’s “branching”. Sure, majority of them are game ending defeats but they are still strong in writing and tell much what became of the character(s) affected by your failure, unlike most of the similar type of games where defeats are just brushed aside lazily.

Pros:

  • Like what many reviews say, it’s got a surprisingly interesting story with some plot twists.

  • Great artwork and most of the major scenes are fully voiced (the main characters only) in Japanese,

  • Surprisingly in-depth fights. Careful item and skill management required especially on bosses and tough enemies.

  • Not too grindy. I beat the main story in about 8-10 hours. After completing story mode a bonus, optional dungeon with new enemies not found in the main game is unlocked and you’ll likely grind a little for this one. There’s also New Game+ mode (haven’t tried it yet as of this writing) where it says you’ll keep your level, gear, skills, etc. In addition, new enemies unlocked in the arena after main game is completed too.

Criminal Girls: Invite Only

CG:IO (CG from now on) is a hard game to grade. There is a JPRG element, but the game’s best known for its… titillating content, though it’s all suggestive tease due to self censoring by the publisher. You need to download mods to see any… naughty bits.

The premise is simple… You have been assigned as “corrections leader” under supervision of Ms. Miu and your job is to “train” several of the “criminal girls” whose souls are tainted, but maybe you can help redeem them with a little training. If you manage to lead them out of “hell”, fighting the way out against all the escaped prisoners, and perhaps some other girls who didn’t want to be redeemed, you may yet make it back into the real world…

For anyone just roughly browsing the review sections who is more or less set on buying this game anyway, here are two pointers for when first playing the game:

a. the game may be a little slow to boot up at first, since it needs to install some additional stuff first. And it takes a little longer than most games to do so, for some reason. So just be patient in stead of clicking the “play” button repeatedly. It will boot up when it’s ready;

b. for the first time, the game’s language will be set to Japanese. Never fear, though: you can simply go to the options screen (select Tab or I) and select English.

Oh, Dungeon Master

Oh, Dungeon Master

This might be the worst game I have purchased or played. I play quite a few bad games, this one is exceptional in this regard, Your level and inventory resets every time you enter a dungeon. Four of the achievements might be impossible to get because of it.

Beyond that it is pretty awful across the board. Do not recommend,

Real player with 4.7 hrs in game

First off I hope you like subpar minecraft graphical style as that is what this is. No instructions no options screen to go into to find out what keys actually do anything. The object of the game is to go around and collect posters of scantily clad women. there are 25 different pictures you will need to collect every different one to get all of the achievements. in my two hours of play I managed to figure out how to get 25 total pictures not all different because they randomly generate when you die. so you must die or go into a cave to get the posters to regenerate to hope to get your 25. The problem comes in is when you go into a cave you loose your inventory completely and your stats that you have upgraded are lost and you are back to a basic character again. I managed to make it without any weapons to find a couple of posters in the caves. I do not know if you must go into the caves to get specific posters. However when I got my 25 I went back to the first cave where it tells you to collect 25 and bring them back when I did I saw them all go into the slot then 9 enemies spawn that you have nothing to fight them with and nothing to protect yourself so all you can do is run and leave the cave which puts you outside with nothing.

The Warriorlock

The Warriorlock

This game is an old-school RPG game, with a big and well-made story behind it.

Here are the pros I found and my recommendations to turn the game better:

Pros:

  • Low System Requirements, which nowadays almost any computer has those;

  • Cool soundtrack;

  • Well-made story and dialogues;

  • Nice graphics and images;

  • Can walk in the diagonal, which is rarely found in RPG´s;

  • Drops steam cards, which for a card collector like me is pretty cool.

Recommendations:

  • Hidden Monsters could attack when in contact with any party member instead of just the player;

Initially when I started to play this game, I’d imagined it would be another classic RPG with only a new story, but at the beginning of the game it already indicates that it will be a different experience and so it was till the point from the game before doing this review.

The game is funny, with a story based on humor, bringing laugh and fun while accompanying the misadventures of Harry. A highlight of the game is the way the scenarios are built and how the characters interact with it - in my opinion a great hit. The soundtrack is also great, without excess of music or unnecessary audios in some scenes, which I found very good since it made the experience of the game more immersive.
