Thirsty Heroes

Thirsty Heroes

Thirsty Heroes is a dungeon-crawling business sim with turn-based deckbuilding combat.

Discover, Research, & Exploit Dungeons

Send heroes Scouting to find dungeons, use Divination to pinpoint vulnerabilities, then equip heroes to exploit the weaknesses and bring home the loot.

Find & Craft Gear to Build Heroes' Decks

Take control during the crawl to fight through monsters, traps, and chance encounters using your hero’s Deck, built from equipped Gear. Find randomly-generated loot and valuables to upgrade your squad and face tougher enemies to satisfy the King’s demands.

Management Gameplay

Heroes can’t fight if they’re thirsty, so keep their spirits up with conversation and drinks from the bar! Use Hero Gambits to automate combat so you can focus on the big picture.

Plus:

  • Cross-platform play for PC and Mobile. Nature calls? Don’t stop the crawls!

  • A gripping story featuring a villain inspired by the inane tweets of teenage celebrities.

  • Endless play with no level cap or limit to dungeon size.

Mech Engineer

Mech Engineer

At last, properly hardcore and very complex survival management game, where you play as moving city’s AI. Haven’t played something that nice and satisfying in years.

Pros:

  • Mech Engineering - you decided what Reactor, Motors, Modules and Weapons it will have and for kind of biomes it will be suitable to fight. In addition, through energy management interface you can decide, what modules will receive more energy from reactor (if you have spare) and from what reactor will siphon energy (to balance things out).

it took me about an hour or two to figure out how to get my mechs started and all the tweaks needed to survive them in a fight

been playing it for a bit and managed to go a month before i got stonewalled by bad production decisions, a misclick on the calendar, and boxed into a map box where i have like two directions to go and a big monster coming to get me i guess

i would suggest making the day turn thing ask if youre sure if you want to advance a day but that’s about it

e: nvm i beat the giant monster by luck the tentacle monsters are hard and super annoying tho

Dungeons 2

Dungeons 2

Dungeons 2 is a dungeon management meets real-time strategy game. You are the Ultimate Evil who tries to rid the world of those pesky goody-two-shoes like elves, dwarves and “heroes” who live on the surface and regularly invade your dungeon to steal your gold. You fight back with your evil horde consisting of orcs, goblins, trolls and snake-like nagas which you first have to train and slap into proper shape while trying to keep them fed drunk and entertained, and mining gold to pay for it all.

Do you like dungeon builders? Do you like reference humor? Do you like fourth-wall breaking? Do you like defeating heroes and make the world better for your poor evil creatures? … No? Well then, the game isn’t for you, but if you like those things, then the game certainly deserves a look and is worth your time.

Mandatory Dungeon Keeper 2 mention/comparison:

First let us get this out of the way, because it is apparently internet law to compare a dungeon building/management game to Dungeon Keeper. This game feels closer to Dungeon Keeper than it does to the first Dungeons game. The focus is more on the creatures than the actual dungeon lord, and defeating heroes as opposed to entertain them to harvest their soul energy.

Questr

Questr

I found QUESTR to be very entertaining. It is not much as a game, but what it lacks in gaming substance it makes up in content.

You start by inviting people to join your quest party. Many of the people lie on their profiles and some characters hate your other members so much that they quit right away.

Every quest has multiple events in which you need to select one characters idea how to solve them. For example you encounter a vampire. Will you send a) the Vegan to talk to him about being vegan b) the drunk to talk about drinking c) or the bro who says he got this as he had to watch vampire movies with his ex. Results might not be what you expect.

Questr is an RPG parody of dating apps similar to Tinder.

In a similar fashion, you swipe left and right to build the perfect RPG team. Every potential party member has likes and dislikes, levels, costs to hire, and personality traits as well as their own class, guild, and ancestry.

Personality traits determine the outcome of encounters throughout each quest. Beating an encounter raises morale, while failing lowers it. Party members also interact with one another between encounters, further raising or lowering morale depending on how well personality types get along and whether or not you paid attention to likes and dislikes. At the end of a quest, the morale level determines if you successfully complete it, giving you a reward and the possibility of having party members continue to quest with you.

Legend of Keepers: Career of a Dungeon Manager

Legend of Keepers: Career of a Dungeon Manager

Legend of Keepers is a great rogue-lite game in which you manage a dungeon as part of a monster corporation. This corporation employs powerful dungeon keepers that set up traps, cast spells, and train monsters to protect the treasure at the end of the dungeon from heroes,, which are seeking to enrich themselves while destroying monsters and reversing all your hard work.

Gameplay:

The game is played over weeks, each week having one or more options for you to choose from. It plays a bit like slay the spire in that you can’t backtrack to any nodes you skipped, but it being framed as a schedule makes a lot more sense than the more abstract way a lot of rogue-lite games do this.

I REALLY tried to like this game, and overall would say I had a fun time, but there are enough factors that in accumulation makes Legend of Keepers feel very disappointing.

Before getting into the long list of bad, there are some good aspects:

  • The game has a fair amount of content, taking around 30-50 hours for 100% completion and 100 total hours if you wanted to do all that and max the skill tree of all characters including DLC.

  • The pixel art style for the game works great.

  • It is an interesting twist on being the antagonist in a game.

Your objective is to stop any visitors to your Monsters’ Domain. Start from simple monsters and skeletons and with time build up your defences. You can play any monster from your army and give them specific orders to follow. Every killed hero makes them stronger and gives you an opportunity to equip them better or develop new skills or monstrosities. You can reanimate fallen intruders or collect pieces of your slain warriors and research new ways to use it.

Develop your preferred Style. You can focus on specific Style or mix them together to create a unique army of loyal Monsters. Choose from Necromancy, Vivisection, Mutation, Runes, Elixirs, Talismans, Forge, Techie, Strategy, Roguery, Drilling or Sorcery and different schools of Dark Magic.

Grow your beasts and monsters, make them unique or identical with others to unlock specific skill trees, upgrades and abilities. Combine unique equipment and skills and create your Bosses or Swarms.

Styles are complex systems focused on specific areas but combined with others allow to create more powerful weapons and upgrades. The vivisected finger of the mage combined with some elixirs can be a very powerful upgrade for your simple skeleton. Reanimated corpse of a fallen hero with some fresh mutations and newly forged weapons can make a really nice new Boss for your realm.

Loot all you can as bodies decay and some treasures can be lost to nasty imps or other thieves. Store you treasures as a lure for visitors or forge them into powerful objects. Every piece matters. Study new materials and runes, develop schematics for your traps and devices, collect limbs, flesh and bones for your experiments and new creations.

Learn and experiment. The way your monsters kill new heroes can be entertaining but also eye opening. Develop your Strategy and new Roguery tricks. Teach your zombies to play dead (sic!) or Drill skeletons to fight in formation. Experiment in your Forge with loot and spells and combine them into unique crafting materials.

Do all you can to defend you Monsters’ Domain!

Dungeons 3

Dungeons 3

There are things I like and things I don’t like in this game. I have gotten and completed all the DLCs. I have also completed Dungeons 2.

I start from the things I didn’t like.

The trailer shows a nice movie - that is just an ad in the store. There are no such animations in the game. After some missions(not all) you are shown a partially animated 2d cartoon. No 3d animations like in the trailer, nothing like that in the game.

Dungeons… There were dungeons in Dungeons 2, but in Dungeons 3 there is just 1 dungeon in each of the missions. It was fun to visit and explore dungeons other than your own in Dungeons 2, nothing like that here. There are no other dungeons.

Disclaimer: I have not played any of the earlier installments in the series, nor have I played any other dungeon sim games, so I have nothing to compare this game to.

General

In this game, you build a dungeon, create an army of evil and invade the aboveground world, called Overworld, to defeat heroes and complete various objectives, while at the same time defending your dungeon from the heroes' raids. The game has single player, co-op, and multiplayer mods, but I have only tried out the single player campaign.
