Extremely simple drag racing! Nothing to do but time the light and gear shifts. No adjusting anything mechanical. No game play. No immersion. $5 might even be too much for this game.

Bionite: Origins

Bionite: Origins

At its current state I can’t recommend. I’ve re-downloaded when new updates were made, but sadly the game does not feel like BZ. The controls are too sophisticated (couldn’t implement the original’s?), unit AI needs a huge improvement, and many bugs just build on top of it all. Seriously though, commanding your constructor to build a guntower shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. Bad pathfinding and controls plague a game where basic game mechanics should be a priority. Besides, 6+ years and it’s still in early access? Sorry, but donating to them was a mistake.

As others have said, this game unfortunately seems to have grinded to a halt since 2018? Developers obviously lost interest. It’s a buggy mess that is COMPLETELY unplayable at this stage; controls are wacky and nothing seems to work correctly. Don’t buy it.

I think everyone was hoping something great would come of this spiritual successor… it’s a shame. Oh well, Battlezone 98 Redux and Battlezone: Combat Commander are on Steam now at least.

EDIT in response to developer:

I fully understand that game development is very difficult, especially when starting out or with only a small team, and as such, many projects take years to develop.

I’ve been following this game through it’s development so thought I should leave a review now that it’s out.

In short: This game is a lot of fun!

The visuals in the game are really pretty, and very atmospheric. I played on high quality at a friends and medium on my machine and I didn’t feel like I was losing any quality. The night tracks are especially good to look at.

One of my favourite things about the game is the way the car “feels” on the road. I’m not really sure how to describe it, but it feels nice and gritty. That’s not quite the right word, but I guess you can just give it a try. The cars feel like they have weight to them and the way they glide around some of the curves in the tracks is really satisfying.

I played entirely in VR on RIFT with a 1070 and Ryzen 5 2600 cpu.

This is no Project Cars 3 or Drive Club VR. There are no licensed cars and licensed tracks. What you get for your money is really fun if a bit unbalanced in places arcade racing game made by a small studio of 2 people over a period of a couple of years or so.

There are 5 types of car ranging from muscle car to F1 type car and they all feel very different to drive. The 19 tracks are all fantasy but really well done and not stupidly fantasy. From figure eights to Daytona to street tracks plus a valcano and ice track thrown in. What I mean by well done is they are laid out very decently. I found myself nicely getting into the groove when driving an f1 car around a street track in a 20 lap race. The rhythm was good and most of the tracks are like this. Well designed indeed.

Dumbass Drivers!

Dumbass Drivers!

A bad option to spend your money on!

This game is trash.

Not the good kind of trash, but just a waste of time!

Here are some of the reasons why:

  • Maps are badly done, yet playable with much patience!

  • Design sucks. I mean the graphics are worse than many free games from the beginning of the 21st century, it is just bad, cheap landscaping and very low budget production overall.

  • THE GUY to the right of the screen makes me freak out. I mean WHY? Why do you add something like him? xD

You can get the achievements relatively easy, if you feel the need to get them … ( 25h)

Last Generation: Survival

Last Generation: Survival

Release day for Last Generation Survival and I picked it up without knowing much about it. For early access I’m liking how this game is looking. Couple graphics issues, rocks floating in the air, the dirt road is placed above ground by a couple feet in a few spots, there’s no sound when striking a robot. Needs some work but I like it so far. I did a quick intro video of it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdzn4ejLMtQ

While i am giving this a positive review, the game needs a lot more improvement.

1. The Settings options are buggy, you can check out my video. I DID NOTICE THAT I CHANGED A KEY IN THE GAME AND AFTER THAT I GOT A CRASH.

2. AI needs improving, DEV could go for a different type of enemie (maybe aliens, not zombies)

3. The maps needs a little more work, some of the assets are floating on the map and some of the map relief is wierd.

A Big PRO is that the graphics are not bad, and the mechanics are good. A good start for a game.

Badland Envoys

Badland Envoys

In a broken world of desolated wastelands, chaos, rage and destruction dictate the rules of survival. Far stretches of the ruined land are ruled by self-acclaimed warlords and bandits that roam the roads with their diesel-fueled war machines, delivering the cruelty to anyone that dares to enter their domain. In all of this madness, pockets of a new civilization start to shimmer. That’s where you come in. As a member of the Badland Envoy’s, and elite guild of skilled drivers, you’ll be tasked with leading the expeditions between towns and newly created settlements, establishing safe routs, protecting the cargo, and eliminating any encountered threat. You’ll be a messenger, a porter, a warrior, and most of all, a new hope for those that try to rebuild humanity.

Do you have what it takes?

If you’re get stopped out there, you’ll die. Think fast, drive faster, react instantly. Remember, it’s not always about the speed of your car – sometimes it’s about the speed of your trigger.

Spending some of that hard-earned buck on your rides is always a good idea. Installing new armor plating, homing missiles launcher or a high tech nitro system can make a difference between life and death out there on the road. Be good to your chariots and they’ll repay you with the same. Trust me.

So you’ve got a few extra wheels and hired some new crew members? Good. You can trust them to have your back, but when things get really tough, don’t hesitate to give them commands from a more tactical point of view. It can save your life, and more importantly – your cargo.

If it wasn’t about the job, we’ll be no different than the bandits. The orders placed through the Guild give us goals, meaning and hope for a better feature. Remember that all orders have different sets of requirements. Delivering medicine through hills requires more vehicles, different gear and more specialized crew than a recon mission deep into marshlands. Plan ahead and you’ll be fine.

See you on the road.

Features:

  • Experience fast-paced, action-oriented vehicular combat.

  • Use Tactical mode for more top-down approach.

  • Unlock deadly vehicles to ride, upgrade and shine with style.

  • Gather unique vehicle customizations, including armor plating, weapons, and tuning parts.

  • Encounter savage enemies, each witch different strengths, weaknesses and combat tactics.

  • Challenge world bosses, including armored train and mechanized desert fortress.

  • Complete dozens of orders spread through the far reaches of Badlands.

  • Recruit additional crew members, each with a different set of unique skills and traits.

  • Traverse various environments – from town ruins, through desert wastelands, all to the bogged wetlands.

  • Experience a day and night cycle that affects gameplay – It’s harder to aim at night, but remember - it works both ways.

  • Witness various environmental conditions and dangers, like corrosive acid rain or deadly desert storm.

Carrier Command 2 VR

Carrier Command 2 VR

I have only played a brief little bit, but so far I have been able to control my units, drive the carrier, and do the first island mission without any problems in VR, but I am using Valve Index Controllers so I do not know how it will work on other types.

My only concern is that the carrier’s main camera looks a little funky as it is like a big circular 2D screen inside a glass sphere that you are standing in and for a few moments I didn’t know what I was looking at or why the screen was in my way. Once I started moving the camera and zooming in it all made sense and I was able to use it no problem. It does look weird though and makes you wonder where you are and what happened the first time you use it.

Yes, now I can recommend this game since the latest update allows all functions to work with my Odyssey+, even though the devs don’t officially support WMR. (I’m hoping they will later, however.) I did have to use a community-made set of bindings, but everything works with the only exception being the air/sea radar, where I can’t seem to increase or decrease the scan range. Fortunately, the default value of 1250m still works just fine, so it’s not a game-breaking issue. I haven’t tried modifying the bindings, so it’s possible that I could still find out the fix for it. I spent about 2 hours capturing 3 islands and I had no trouble using all the same tactics that I would in pancake mode, although it took me the first 30 minutes just figuring out what all the controller buttons did. But once I did, I was bounding between screens and stations, giving orders to units, operating gimbal cameras, manipulating maps, and driving the carrier with ease. The only really hard part was doing it all standing up… I need to get a chair next time, as my feet were starting to hurt by the 3rd island captured.

As a fan of Chillas games, this is possibly the first negative review I’ve given of his/hers games.

Pros:

  • Bigger maps than usual (or so it feels).

  • Superb atmosphere as usual.

  • Sprint ability!

  • Collectibles.

  • Good story.

  • Good sound design.

Cons:

  • Objectives are a bit unclear. Like, after cleaning up urine one would assume next step is to put the cloth used in the washing machine, but I guess in Asian countries you just throw things in a plastic bag and keep it around your house…?

  • AI enemy very fast finding and attacking you when needing to perform actions. You need to run around and close doors behind you all over the house for at least half of the clocks in order to try and make it in time before being killed.

The Caregiver (TCG) is the most recent j-horror experience to come out from Chilla’s Art (CA)- who doesn’t even need an introduction at this point! It’s no secret, I’m a huge fan of theirs; I actually want to review all of their games but it’s easier said than done because you must have nerves of steel and not prone to mini-heart attacks. If you love Japanese horror movies, and want to be a glorified “extra” then play any one!! My first ever was when I worked in The Convenience Store (TCS) , but that’s because I was shopping for more than I bargained for.
