Street Racing Syndicate

Street Racing Syndicate

Street Racing Syndicate is an arcade racing game, created on the wave of astonishing success of the Need for Speed Underground. There were plenty of them back in the days, but only a few deserves our attention after all those years passed. If you need comparisons, I’d say that SRS is more realistic than NFS Underground 1 & 2, and have some unique features to hold player’s interest - the most noticeable, the down-to-earth system of upgrades, and, of course, girls. Girls who encouraging the player with the original driving quests, and awards with private go-go dances, once you achieve something on the streets.

Pros:

  • Great atmosphere, it’s up there with Juiced 1 and Underground 1 as far as giving you a real import tuner feel goes.

  • Customisation is licensed, featuring well known brands such as VeilSide, C-West, Wings West, Streetglow and more.

  • Performance parts are also licensed, featuring well known brands such as AEM, Holley, Yokohama, GReddy, HKS and more.

  • Includes features that Need for Speed overlooked, such as betting on races and crew races.

  • Most of the import brands you expect are present, i.e Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi, etc.

If you are lucky, this might be the worst game you will ever play.

–-

What does that even mean? Let me explain:

There’s good games. There’s bad games. There’s interactive art pieces that use game mechanics. There’s barely interactive media that present themselves as games. There’s training simulators that are set up like games but aren’t intended to be games. There’s… how many of these would you like me to list? Want to talk about interactive movies? What about visual novels? What about… oh, was I wasting your time? Did you want me to make a point about Desert Bus? Hang on, I wasn’t done rambling…

That’s a great game.

In fact, I realized that it can substitute my sleep time.

For the last month, more or less, I spend my former sleep hours driving this bus and I felt very well the next day.

The only side effect is that sometimes when I’m walking distractedly I tend to slowly drift leftways. No big deal.

UPDATE:

So… Strange things started to happen as I slowly began to expand my daily driving time.

Now I’m nearly driving 16 hours a day and sometimes I have some really weird and vivid dreams.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City

Copy-pasted from my IV review. This is a review of both GTA IV and EFLC.

Honestly one of the best games I have ever played. Compared to V, I think there are some things that IV does better, euphoria physics, vehicle handling, story, realism in general; It’s nice if that’s the kind of thing you’re looking for. V improved in certain areas, and included a lot of things that IV was lacking. I don’t think either is better than the other, but I personally prefer IV.

The game runs OK,

The Lost and Damned

This episode focuses on motorcycles, as you would expect from a game that revolves around a biker gang. If GTA4 wasn’t gritty enough for you, this one’s even grittier. Storywise, it’s about the same level of grittiness as GTA4, if not more, If you like riding bikes, you’ll like this episode; Johnny Klebitz has mastered the delicate art of not flying off his bike when clipping a lamp post at 20 miles an hour. Though he’s not as good of a driver as Niko, and you’ll definitely notice that if and when you get behind the wheel. There’s more content in general, including an exclusive set of weapons to play with, including an autopistol, a sawed-off shotgun, and a grenade launcher. You get all three of these pretty damn early in the game; the sawed-off is Johnny’s starter weapon and he can fire it while riding! Worth playing if you want to follow a parallel, equally if not more gritty story to Niko’s.

WRC 7 FIA World Rally Championship

WRC 7 FIA World Rally Championship

Decent game. Potential to be outstanding, but failing at key areas. I give it a score of 68/100. Many rallies and stages are beautifully made and the lighting is at times awesome, perhaps best demonstrated in Rally Monte Carlo, the way that light shines through the leafless trees and from angles realistic to life. So, graphically, great game. But where’s the mud????!! Where’s the grime?? The RAIN??? The weather effects are hugely underwhelming, as in WRC 6. The game’s attempt at rain can’t even be called drizzle, and rally isn’t rally without mud and brutal, challenging conditions.

Sim racer here.. love sims like AC, rF2, RaceRoom, Richard Burns Rally, Automobilista. Went into this game VERY skeptical, but end up positively surprised.

WRC 7 is surprisingly sim-like, WAY more a simulation than any past WRC titles. Actually I rate this game higher as a SIMULATION than the disappointing Dirt 4. (Well, Dirt 4 Rallycross was okay, but their “physics upgrades” effectively sucked the fun out of rallying)

PROS

STAGES

Best stages in any Rally game, period. Detailed, narrow, full of danger and surprises. Puts Dirt 4 to shame. The stages themselves are actually better than even Dirt Rally.

Mafia II (Classic)

Mafia II (Classic)

Mafia II is one of the best organized crime games, especially if we take realistic games with organized crime as the main theme. It’s also one of the best third-person shooter, and aged very well, even a decade later, it still feels as good as back in 2010.

Story

You play as sicilian immigrant, Vito Scaletta, whose family traveled to the USA looking for a better life, but reality turned out to be more grim and harsh than Vito’s parents imagined. Seeing how his father lives a miserable life and became a drunkard due to his hard job and poverty, Vito decided to not repeat his mistakes. His father eventually dies during the accident at the docks. He met Joe, a local bully and a cool guy, and eventually, due to lack of jobs and poverty, the two decided to become a small time criminals, thieves, essentially, during one such operation, Vito got caught, and between going to prison or helping USA with the invasion of Sicily, as a native italian speaker, he decided to go to war. And that’s only the beginning of his life path.

“I BECAME A CRIMINAL BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO BECOME A VICTIM”

Welcome to Empire Bay. Sunny place full of opportunities for those who can take them. Yes, I’m talking to you Vito & Joe. Yes, you too Mr. Vinci. I see you over there Alberto Clemente. Yeah, that’s right Carlo Falcone. I can keep on naming these fellas over and over again because this game was filled with gentlemen like these.

Vito Scalleta got tired of bureaucratic bullsh*t so he got shot right in the butt, that he could leave Europe and go straight back to Joe, so these two can put in the work, get up in the Mafia hierarchy, sky rocketing up in the mob family ladder so he can get what they all want - THAT GREEN THING.

Lake

Lake

*This review contains plot spoilers, read at your own digression.

I’m not usually one to write a review recommending against a game, especially one I went to the trouble of getting all the achievements for, and spending almost 13 hours in.

But Lake, much to my absolute dismay, just falls very short in the places where I had thought it was meant to shine.

The charming little town of Providence Oaks, is, on paper, an alluring display. For aesthetics, Lake hits the mark. The game is beautiful, the scenery is relaxing, the aforementioned Lake is gorgeous, and at the end of 13 hours I felt a little bit sad at the thought of Meredith Weiss leaving her childhood home.

I was SO excited about this game, but … when I played it.. ehh…

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good game - or… is it? I am not too sure anymore! Let’s take a look at a pros and cons list:

Pros

✔️ Relaxing, though a little monotone gameplay

✔️ Good atmosphere, especially loved the sound of the rain!

✔️ Good stylized graphics, pretty scenery

✔️ Good characters with good character design, loved that we got two love interests

✔️ Good voiceactors (with the exception of Mildred, what the heck was that lady on-)
