80’s OVERDRIVE

80’s OVERDRIVE

This is not the Outrun you’re looking for.

1. The stage themes are nice, bright, and colorful. However, there’s 36 stages and only about 5 themes so it gets old fast.

2. You can buy different cars. However, they are all the same when upgraded so there’s no reason except that you like the way one looks.

3. There’s 18 different songs. However, they are all forgettable and there’s no option to play them randomly.

4. If you stick with one car and just upgrade it, the game is really easy until the end when the opponents are just flat out faster than your fully maxed out car.

This game is a new contender among tributes to the 80’s and early 90’s arcade style racing games. The game plays like a mix of Outrun and the Lotus series. Buying and upgrading new cars works in a bit of a Road Rash fashion, meaning that you have to grind races to earn money which in turn allows you to keep buying more stuff. There isn’t much to differentiate between the available cars, which all seem to drive pretty much the same. A bit of a missed opportunity there.

80’s Overdrive’s entire look is decidely retro in the graphics department which works out nicely, colors pop on screen and the entire 2D style reminds me of something that wouldn’t have felt out of place on Sega’s Saturn system back in the day. At the start of the game you pick a driver and a car. The driver is just a character portrait, there is no story and there are no interactions at all between you and your opponents before or after races like there is in Road Rash for example. This kind of sucks, because you would expect something like this to be there after seeing all the different characters. There’s work that obviously went into creating these, but nothing is done with it. Again we’re coming across a fair bit of missed potential here.

Kazakh Drive

Kazakh Drive

This is an endurance racer: You have to drive for an hour or so without crashing to pass the first task. The apparent best strategy is pretty mindless: drive on the shoulder, keep your wipers on all the time, and spray fluid when the windshield gets dusty. The oncoming traffic lane is way too risky to use because you can’t usually see if it’s clear.

I do want to like this game, and certain improvements could make me recommend it:

1. controller support

2. some kind of meaningful decision to make while driving. There needs to be some reason I shouldn’t just drive on the shoulder to pass.

This is one of the best games here on Steam. Scenario, game play - everything is just great. A lot of possibilities to discover, I’ve just started the game, but I already decided to spend the entire weekend playing Kazakh Drive for the sake of Uncle Eldos. You know, boards can’t bring themselves on their own.

Best regards and ALGA

Might as well just be called “Hold Right Arrow to Win”. This was a complete chore to play. The courses are practically the same, just varying how high and low the hills and valleys are. Z/X is used to rotate your vehicle (and perform tricks, of which there are only 2) but it seemed random at best whether they actually helped me to win or not. The music stops playing when you’ve played a track to long without completing it and sometimes you will lose randomly (only seen 3x in the last 5 levels of the race portion). A complete ripoff at the full price of $10 and pretty much still a ripoff on a deep sale.

I’m just gonna say it, I honestly expected a lot worse going into this.

But I’m glad to say that this game certainly didn’t disappoint. Taking inspiration from the classic era of flash games, this game follows a well-established formula with a few extra strings attached. Simple but challenging, short and sweet, it is definitely worth picking up.

While the graphics in some aspects may be somewhat crude, it adds so much to the overall charm the game brings. The gameplay is solid and enjoyable, as physics are used very well to give the car a sense of weight and velocity. Although it is only 10 levels long for the main game, it can be very challenging at times. Especially with the 10 bonus levels you get from getting a high enough score in the endless mode.

I bought clown town 1443 because the developer was in a random unrelated Twitch stream dropping Steam keys out of nowhere. That kind of guerrilla marketing appealed to me and so I decided to purchase the game instead, and that isn’t just me coping for not being fast enough to snag one of the keys despite how generous the developer was in giving them.

As a big Friday Night Funkin' appreciator I have a soft spot for games that are basically love letters to Flash classics, and this game is very clearly wearing its Trials influences on its sleeve. There’s a bit more to it than just a straight clone, as this game features a bit more depth to its mechanics, such as a heat bar that must be managed. You’re free to bump around generally as much as you want, but if you overheat from too much acceleration you temporarily lose control of your vehicle. Crash in this state, and you’ll have to restart the level again.

First Racer

First Racer

First Racer is a racing game with convenient arcade control in which you can get a lot of good emotions.

  • The game has the ability to select a car and configure it, both the appearance (body parts, color) and technical specifications (engine, transmission, suspension, tires).

  • The game has different game regimes:

    • Racing.

    • Drift.Tune your favorite car for the modes that you like and go to new records.

  • Compete with the ghost of other players to improve your experience and set new records on each track.

  • “First Racer” has visual and technical damage, you need to drive more carefully in order to get to the finish line with a good time.

Forklift & Box

Forklift & Box

Forklift & Box is a free Sokoban ripoff put together with the godawful GameMaker Studio game construction kit. There’s no working fullscreen, and the primitive retro pixel graphics make Flash games look advanced.

The developer seems to have made the game completely free, and while this is a noble demonstration of the developers belief in their game and a service to the gaming industry, the quality here is still too low that I would recommend to other gamers, even for free.

Quite a charming little free-to-play game.

Only played it for 6 minutes at the time of this review (felt a lot longer), but I had fun for the most part.

Car Detailing Simulator: Prologue

Car Detailing Simulator: Prologue

So i play another Simulator , and this one has a lot of “details”. Is good game to pass your Free time.

Pos:

“Everything” to need to know how to clean a Car.

Cons:

  1. When i start the game i had 2-4 FPS. I change HD 144Hz to HD 60 Hz, Close V-Sync and lower the option to high to have 50-70 fps. I think is wrond the code of Graphics.

  2. It has Key maping but not the choice to change ti mouse buttons,With windows 10 i have all time problem with middle mouse button to press (not to scroll) so thank god they had option for gamepad to use the menu bar to shop.

This was a fun game. Faster than Powerwash Simulator and is just a nice game for car lovers. Plus, the whole picture at the end is a really nice touch to check out your work and cars one might like. The detail is very well done; was surprised that upholstery included mats for in the car and the trunk. The gameplay and tutorial are straightforward, but at the end of the jobs, the wiping the water needs a bit of work. However, right click reveals what is missing, so that is a great help, plus zooming. Just a tip on that so that others do not get stuck: at end of job, use wipe, use to keep it clean, and right click constantly to find everything and then it should go smoothly. Average time spent per car was 10-20 minutes, so it is awesome for a nice chill break. Definitely worth a playthrough!
