FAST BEAT LOOP RACER GT | 環狀賽車GT

FAST BEAT LOOP RACER GT | 環狀賽車GT

Fast Beat Loop Racer GT is a game similar to the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune game series. You pick your car and then race on the highway - a simple yet exciting concept.

Except, last time I saw this game was at a local arcade, and that was a few years ago.

This time, we’ve got a nice PC port, which is what I’ve been waiting for since there’s not many arcade games getting ported to PC.

First of all, this game is slightly different from WMMT. Cars feel more grippy, and you have to initiate drifts instead of sliding because the control is slippery (the cars still do that, but in a more realistic way). Fast Beat Loop Racer GT also implements the drafting system, unlike WMMT.

Got this on sale, and for the money, this is really the best Asian Arcade style racer on Steam. Works great with a steering wheel and pedals. The arcade feel is really captured well, as it is a direct port of the arcade game. Some people say this feels more like real street racing than Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune or Initial D.

I wouldn’t know. I’m here to play video games, not pretend that I have a different hobby.

The music is not nearly as good as those other two games, and I highly recommend putting a playlist of other stuff on in the background to drown out the generic rock/dance. Put on some tunes from one of the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tunes, and I don’t really think you could tell the difference unless you were a fan of the manga.

You’ve died, this is space hell.

Everyone gets room and board.

Doesn’t seem so bad.

Gamepad is strongly recommended!

The game has two main paths, both leading to a face-to-face meeting with the Lord of Death. Who’s grown tired of misery and is currently working on rebranding hell for a gentler, more joyous experience. However not everyone in the city is convinced by this sudden change of heart.

CAR PATH, is focused on racing THE TRACKS OF THE ABYSS. Collecting stars along the way and recieving the honourable invitation after getting all of them.

STORY PATH, consists of increasingly silly scenarios as you get entangled in a plot to overthrow the Lord.

  • Drive around in rocket cars.

  • Become the TOP-STAR-RACER.

Super Night Riders

Super Night Riders

My first reaction to this game was: this game can only be valuable for nostalgia/historical factor, and I can’t honestly recommend it to anyone else. But then I played it a little more, and it got me thinking.

This game faithfully recreates the gameplay of 80s arcade racers with all the important details, but with more modern visuals. The visuals are not mind blowing, but they look pleasant and are not dull.

The gameplay doesn’t have a lot of variety, unfortunately, even compared to the 80s racers. There’s only one vehicle you can choose, one type of “enemies”, no unexpected nasties like an oil spill and such, and the track variety is pretty much limited to the visual theme. The tracks are handcrafted though and are nicely tuned in terms of the difficulty curve and the challenge.

Super Night Raiders is my first racing game that I’ve managed to finish. Actually, it isn’t exactly a racing game - you aren’t trying to be the 1st but complete laps under a given time, depending on the difficulty setting you choose. While you are driving you are encountering other freeway bikers which are supposed to be obstacles that you aren’t supposed to hit - if you hit them you get a massive speed penalty which can ruin your run. One or two mistakes is actually ok, but if you do more than that you probably won’t make it on the normal mode. Easy mode is exactly the same, except that it grants you more time to finish each lap so you are allowed to make more mistakes, but you don’t get achievements.

Drift Of The Hill

Drift Of The Hill

Very addicting game even for early access.

What I liked:

-Cars handled really well

-some maps were well made

-detailed animations

-several cars and maps to choose from

-cars are well designed and some based off of Initial D

-The Eurobeat hell yes

What could be improved:

-Every car sounds like a supra. add a bit of variety of car sounds

-speedometer is a little off to the one inside the car

-acceleration for some cars is a little unnatural. seems like that of a supercar.

-could use more maps

-Could tweak the physics a bit. turning seems a little flimsy

The drifting in this game feels amazing once you actually learn how to do it, but there are two quality of life things that I think would make this game even better. The first is being able to save your tuning settings; Changing the tuning settings every time you restart gets kind of tedious. The second is adding more options to the replay system. Instead of just having the chase action cam, maybe add options to see in the first or third-person view? Being able to download the replays would also be nice. Other than those things, this game is a steal for less than $2.

MagiKart: Retro Kart Racing

MagiKart: Retro Kart Racing

MagiKart: Retro Kart Racing is a retro inspired racing game that heavily borrows from some of the best (and worst) late 90s kart racers.

Featuring stylized low poly models, flat-shaded textures, and classic arcade physics, this game will transport you back to a simpler era; an era where gamer supremacy is settled in front of the tube. Race through a variety of environments against ruthless computer opponents, and prove your driving skills once and for all against the infamous rubber-banding AI. If solo gaming isn’t your thing, why not break a few friendships with our multiplayer modes? Race or battle against up to three of your soon-to-be enemies, and enjoy some banging tunes by musical artist Saury and Luan Maziero!

Rigorous Races

  • Your racing adventure starts on the mysterious Red Rock Island. They say that a long wooden bridge can be found there, but the question of who built it remains unsolved!

  • Head over to the mysterious monster forest, where Pecos and Slimes live in harmony. Don’t be surprised if you encounter them during your race! Just be sure to avoid hitting those loveable creatures.

  • Mountainous peaks, slippery ice banks, and a trek inside a whale’s belly are just about all you need to know about this perilous race!

  • Things get real spooky in this gothic castle of epic proportions! Race through spiraling towers and opulent grand ballrooms to become victorious!

Collection of Characters

  • The Knight is a noble racer, devoted to only the highest quality of racing. Rely on his loyal traits to get you through the race!

  • The Wizard does not let anyone get in her way. Beware of her magical prowess!

  • The Peco is a loyal companion, but in this case, he’s out to get you so he can be number one!

  • The Slime is the cutest little creature you will ever see until it’s given a go-kart and a goal to win. Better get out of its way!

Still not satisfied? Maybe you should try calling a plumber.

PICK ME UP! - Rescue Rangers -

Very arcade-y, you control a vehicle through the maze-like stages to pick up and deliver different color people to the respective color stops. Pretty fun to coordinate the best route to maximize score. Sometimes you need to get vehicle power ups to cross water, break rocks and put out fires in your path. 25 levels and can be tricky to 3-star some. I got it on sale for like two bucks but I’d say it’s worth full if you like arcade style score chasers.

Auto Age: Standoff

Auto Age: Standoff

A ton more fun than I was expecting.

Full disclosure, I am an indie dev living near where Phantom Compass is located, so I knew about the game and was given a free copy. Very surprised at how fluid and smooth and most of all FUN the cars are to drive. I absolutely love the way the little cars handle. It has that perfect “arcady, videogamey” vibe, where teh cars aren’t striving to feel realistic, they are striving for teh best player experiance possible, which I personally think is teh best way to go about this type of locomotion based game. They really did a great job tweaking the cars, and probably my favrit part about teh game is drifting around and boosting into teh air, feels so slick.

This is not a combat-racing game. vehicular brawling, varied classes/styles and weaponry, arenas, aesthetic; this is a car combat game - Auto Age is this in essence, and it’s not too shabby.

In my opinion, the last proper car-combat game was Twisted Metal for the PS3 released back in 2012, and when there are far too few games released apart from the Twisted Metal franchise that fit the bill for being considered part of the car-combat (sub)genre, and to date, as an indie title, Auto Age: Standoff covers the bases to officially be a part of the lineup and not be cringeworthy in 2018.

For being an expanded port of “just” a mobile game, this one’s great.

My only two complaints are irregular, but severe crashes and the fact that the campaign is rather short.

Though, regarding the latter, Score-Hunters will still have plenty of fun with the arcade mode.

Real player with 17.1 hrs in game

This is a really fun game. It has striking character design, engaging gameplay, and a funky soundtrack. The story and dialogue can be goofy but that’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

Incidentally, I have not encountered any bugs.
