Arrest of a stone Buddha
Надежна лишь смерть, жизнь — нет.
К сожалению, простая и тривиальная игра Arrest of a stone Buddha

another incredible effort from Yeo. easily my favorite developer in the indie space.
[ TLDR: the game is awesome; the aesthetic is on point; the story is minimalist but effective; the gunplay, even with occasional quirks and bugs, is tight and exciting as Hell; the look and the sound (graphics and music) are beautiful - even my wife, while listening to me play, said, “i really love the music in your game”. buy this, and Yeo’s other game, Friends of Ringo Ishikawa, immediately. /TLDR]
––
Arrest of a Stone Buddha is lighter, somewhat less “meaty” title than the previous game in the developer’s catalog, The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa (a surprisingly poignant and emotionally deep exploration of a Japanese high school gang leader delinquent’s last year of high school, and all that entails). where Ringo Ishikawa was a melancholic treatise on growing up (and what it means for those who cannot or will not try), Arrest of a Stone Buddha is the next logical step in that emotional journey - the existential and monotonous routine of day to day life, where sometimes those days seem to run together, from one to another, and you find yourself just passing time until the Next Thing you have to do, never really engaging with anything in the present moment - just drifting, the world whirling by with your feet barely on the ground.

Nice retro 2D platformer. But you have to press up to move left and down to move right when you are using the control pad (could also be down for left and up for right, don’t remember exactly).

Brian Clarke of DarkStone Digital makes a comeback with his second major game! This time it’s a mystery-thriller with some psychological elements and a lot of challenging puzzles. If you’ve read my previous review of Inner, you’d know I was quite taken by his work thus far and his fresh set of eyes in the horror genre. He has a certain charm in creating smaller scale projects but still promising spacious room for players to ponder upon and enjoy.

Alright strap yourselves in because I’m about to go on a whole rant of details that are probably going to make me sound like a madman hunting for Pepe Silvia but here goes…
This game is absolutely delightful across the board. It’s definitely not for everyone, but as someone who is REAL dumb at puzzles and has the memory of a PS2 memory card, this game makes me feel like mf Sherlock Holmes. A lot of “hrmm….hrm….no that doesn’t make sense….wait…A HAH!”
Also full disclosure, I technically received one copy of the game, but I truly believed in this game for the reasons below and backed it on Kickstarter for an additional two copies to giveaway for a charity. So I’m not exactly sure if I’m supposed to claim I got this for free when I bought multiple copies? There’s the info though, you decide. But check out my other reviews, I got no problems being critical on games received for free.

The Medic
Awww, did the first reviewer rage quit? How cute, I did too! ;3 Still, it’s a fun game Atari 2600-style game where the rage is fun instead of frustrating, and probably one of the first games to be inspired by the current pandemic. Highly recommend for those who were excited about getting six on Flappy Bird. Getting 250 should be an achievement, just so we can see how many players got that far. Time for another go! :D

This game is worse than The Corona Virus.
You start as some stupid guy who is shooting ( can’t shoot up or down ) random enemies who pop out of nowhere. I think you have to kill 250 which will never happen because you can’t win.
Things that are more fun than this game: farting in the bathtub, watching paint dry, jumping out of a moving train & cutting off your legs.

Hope Trigger
“ This is a beautiful country, where people always have a smiling face. It is also a high-tech country with world-class alchemy and magic. But it had fallen on the night of the barbarian invasion, they betrayed the oath. I’ve lost people and country and was imprisoned in the dark. ”
The story started a thousand years ago, an ancient prosperous civilization ended overnight, leaving nothing but ruins. Today, after a thousand years, a girl comes here and meets another girl who claims to be the queen of the subjugation. They will discover the secret of the subjugation, but all this only happened in….

The prisoner of the Night
Certainly an interesting experience, feels almost like something I would’ve found on the Xbox or PS2, has a nice surrealist art style, solid level design, and although the platforming has a few issues it usually feels tightly controlled. If you like the demo, the full title is absolutely packed with content, definitely worth the asking price. I wouldn’t play this with a controller though, the control scheme is absolutely foul for controllers.

I haven’t finished the game yet, but I don’t know how long it is so I’ll give a quick untidy review now (I think I must be halfway through)
-The theme is very charming. The closest thing I could compare it to is a brazilian version of Little Nemo. But beware of the childish look. The game is rather gory so I wouldn’t actually recomend it for children.
The story and ambiance are very poetic. But I have a little problem with the music that is simplistic and repetitive. I discovered there’s a nice song in the credits but the devs didn’t use it in the rest of the game. They should have used some royalty free music to complement the rest of the music that seems to be original production.

Dojoran - Steam Edition
It’s so good I picked it up and played it for 6 hours right after I bought it
I have some minor complaints, like for example the camera is too zoomed in and jerks around when you change directions, the monochrome pixel art sometimes makes it hard to see certain hazards, and it takes longer than it should to respawn considering how much you will die.
These minor complaints are utterly dwarfed by the smooth controls, stylish pixel art, and challenging levels, each of which have several collectibles to add extra challenge and replay value. This is easily among my favorite precision platformers along with Celeste, Rite, and N++.

Romancing SaGa 2™
I’m finding it difficult to review Romancing SaGa 2. I ended up loving it, but only after I had read up on some key information about the game mechanics that would have taken my dumb ass forever to figure out without help, potentially long enough for me to quit early. I’m going to go through a couple of the things that I found to be important knowledge, so this is going to be a pretty ranty review.
The music is excellent. In my 150+ hours of playing this game I never got sick of hearing it.
The story felt a bit difficult to stay too invested in. While the open nature of the game and the generation /inheritance system is unique for its time and are good gameplay elements, the sheer number and varying lifespans of each emperor/party member means there’s not a lot to follow on a personal level (which may have been the intent?).

tl;dr SaGa games were flawed, epic, open ended, obscure gems way ahead of their time that few westerners got to play back in the days and that you should absolutely try if you’re into (J)RPGs.
My first encounter with them was in the mid nineties with Romancing SaGa 3. Coming from the likes of Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI, I was hella confused by it. Most of the world was freely accessible from the start and I kept going from villages to towns and from ships to islands into dark caves and dungeons which inevitably led to what seemed like invincible mighty opponents.
