EarthNight

EarthNight

EarthNight is an absolutely fantastic runner game, where you skydive (spacedive?) though each successive atmosphere, while landing on, running across, and slaying massive dragons. You can tell how much love and passion was poured into this game from every angle.

Every run, you collect pieces of the dragons, which unlock new temporary power-ups when collected for the first time. These power-ups then show up on runs, and you have to collect them to get their temporary effects. You can also use your currency, water, to buy the power-ups early, if you’re finding a dragon too difficult or not fun and just want the power-up. You also collect eggs each run. Every dragon has 3 eggs, each one makes you do more damage against that dragon on that run. Eggs and dragon pieces are also used for upgrading your items and water tank.

Auto-Stunner

Yes. Get it. Or play it on Apple Arcade. This is such an interesting one.

This weirdness. A seven years in the making autorunner from a studio whose founder said of the genre ‘People got bored because it’s boring.’ THAT’S where you need to start when you’re aiming to upend a genre. Also, a title pitched to bring mobile gaming its own Spelunky. You could say it was unpunctual to that aim given the releases we now see on the small screen or, perhaps, just in time for Apple Arcade’s mainstreamification. In any case, what a mission statement; what a millstone of expectation and prospects round a studio’s first game’s neck. How’d it do?

Heroes of Book & Paper

Heroes of Book & Paper

HB&P s an old-school RPG game that uses an 80s/90s style of design and concept. Your decisions will determine the ending of each adventure you take. Every story has different and random components. This means that the stories will vary from game to game.

Even though HB&P is an 80s/90s style game, we have taken the liberty of saving you from having to read the boring endless story paragraphs.

Here is how we begin. You, the player, will generate a character from a series of available classes which enters a medieval fantasy world. During the initial launch of the game, three classes will be available: Warrior, Sorcerer and Rogue. In addition to this, there are five more classes to chose from, such as, Paladin, Cleric, Bard and Necromancer.

This world is based on stories, and although in the beginning you will see only four stories available, the goal is to reach fifteen. These stories are completely replayable, since it’s based on player’s decisions, their character, their skills and objects. All of which can be modified. To add to this, all the stories have a procedural component that generates different places, characters, traps, combats, objects, etc. Even if you replay the same story with the same character. You will not play two identical adventures.

The adventures all have a certain level of difficulty, but they can be completed in the order you chose.

The character will be able to level up as he passes stories and earns experience points. So, in the next adventure your character will be stronger. There is no proper level system, so your character will improve the characteristics that you want, to the limit that you desire. This will allow you to configure your character to your liking. For example, it is possible to get a Warrior-Wizard if you manage to obtain enough value in a certain characteristic, and you find the appropriate spells or items.

Although there is a road map, this game is open to any suggestions from the players and the community in hopes of making improvements wherever needed.

As you progress in the game, new characters and stories will be added. The old stories that you have played will also receive new items and options as they appear in the game.

Crumbling World

Crumbling World

If you enjoy hack and slash top down rogue-likes like Diablo, Baldur’s Gate and Champions of Norrath, I encourage you to give this game a shot. I greatly enjoy this game. I have spent many hours in it’s world through the different characters and game modes. Each character plays different and each get their own attacks, so there is a character for everyone. The special attacks (combo attacks) are gained by defeating certain bosses at the end of each part of the world map. Outside of that, you have a basic attack that can be used in sequences to slay your foes, a jump, a dodge roll and a portal to get you back to a non-falling part of the map.

This is a fun arcade game. I recommend it if you like Hack and Slash games, probably too simple if you are looking for a full RPG experience.

The combat can feel basic at the beginning but it gets more interesting once you start unlocking special attacks. You can choose from 7 different player characters with very different skills. Trying new characters is fun as each of them unlock different special attacks. The big variety of enemies and regions/landscapes in addition to the the procedural generation make the game very different in each playthrough.

This reminded me a bit of playing Sunken recently, I like the combat and mechanics alot better here, Sunken has nicer graphics but lacks dashing and combat speed. Wish they would team up to make the best of both worlds.^^

Played the first 2 levels and I must say the dodging, blocking and attacking feels great.

Downsides are on the sound design (not bad, but you can tell there are some free stock sounds in there), graphical detail (the head of your character looks a bit like a potato) and trashmob design (like 1-3 mobs per room instead of typical arpg hordes, bosses were fine tho)

Can’t really recommend here’s why…

First off I bought this on sale. 66% off… what a Deal!

There is 4 chapters of play, with 4 levels in each chapter. Items are very bland and generic, and you can just upgrade them in the “outpost” and gold is so easy to get you will always have them maxed out, I’m pretty sure I used the same set of gear from my first run threw as I did up threw newgame+4…. Had a weapon with Bleed and Thundering, and a trinket with lifesteal it was over from there on everyone was smacked around like it was nothing, And there was no way for me to get weaker, I just had to stop at a outpost and upgrade my gear to my new max… I wish this was more then it is, because I kind of like it, but at the same time there is to much and to little going on at the same time..

Hocus Defenders

Hocus Defenders

An Intense Tower Defense that combines the heat of resisting waves of hundreds of enemies with the need to use powerful spells through cards. Each game will be unique, and you will never encounter the same challenge twice. Also, you will need to unravel the story as you progress through the different worlds as the roguelike it is.

Build, upgrade and destroy!

Prepare your defenses, and protect the Hocus Tower against hordes of enemies who want to kill Abracadom, the Wizard of Time. Summon the mighty Crystal Towers, and destroy anyone who dares to approach your home. At your disposal you have a wide variety of towers, each with a unique and powerful attack. Remember to upgrade them on the battlefield, or you may have unwanted guests in the Hocus Tower…

Summon powerful spells!

The different Tarot decks gives the sorcerer their magnificent spells. Summon terrifying meteors, fill the ground with blazing embers or create mighty blizzards. Use magic at your will, but keep in mind that fate is capricious, and the cards will decide which spells you can use at any moment…

Thanks to his powers of time, Abracadom does not contemplate defeat. You can always go back to the past, and spend the loot you have obtained during battles. The Emporium X at the tower will provide everything you need for future battles, but everything comes at a price, of course…

Travel across the kingdom!

Rally with your tower across the kingdom, and travel through hostile territories (against you). From plains dominated by terrifying orcs, snow-capped mountains home of ice-giants, and even the classic labyrinth dungeon. And since it will be difficult for you to visit the same place twice, everytime you travel places you visited may change…

Dragon Extinction

For the record, I originally didn’t recommend this game, but now I do. I enjoy playing it, I have some issues though.

–Lack of mouse speed settings and mouse smoothing makes it unfriendly to new players. A fully functional controller feature would be nice too, not just a partial one.

–Pathing issues (getting stuck on terrrain) is especially bad in some dungeons. Caves specifically.

–Mushroom enemy can walk in areas where players can’t, creating an unreachable loot bag.

–Mini-pet gets in the way of player, other players bump into other players too, getting in the way.

The game has a very good structure, but there is a lot that could be added.

For instance, there could be skills (mining, harvesting, ect) that can be progresses by harvesting/mining. These materials gained can then be used at the forge for cool weapons.

Bottom line : The forge needs more things to make.

When it comes to the loot!! I honestly like how that there are these treasure boxes, but one thing that would be really awesome is if bosses would have sets that they drop. I know that AQW [Adventure Quest World] was very playable due to the dope drops that every monster would give. Heck there was even 1 percent chance drops that I grinded for.
