The Tenth Line

The Tenth Line

A fantastic turn-based RPG experience that came out of nowhere. The game hooked me with its charm and then kept me with its surprisingly well-written dialog and character development. Every character has a clear reason to exist and be with the party throughout the story. There are many twists big and small that kept me glued to this game. I had trouble sleeping for a couple of nights over the course of my playthrough because of my desire to see how the story unfolded.

Like many have mentioned, the combat system has a steep learning curve. I have never played a turn-based RPG that requires such a great of amount of attention, pacing, and strategy as this one. The game starts out easy enough but ramps up the difficulty real quick, to the point where you may have to consult the manual and/or the disccusion forums to figure out how to play better. If you like your games to be challenging, you will probably love this, but if you don’t have enough patience to fail a few times before things click, this might not be for you. I spent four hours on a main story boss (I’m sure everyone who’s played this knows exactly who I’m talking about), but I had a real blast figuring out how to win (It’s worth noting that this boss had been toned down since I played). There is a story-only option that supposedly removes encounters on the way to bosses and makes bosses simpler. I think the story and writing alone makes this game easily worth it, so this is likely a good option for those who get frustrated spending so much time figuring out how to beat a game (though personally I think removing the hardship of the encounters makes the experience less epic).

Before I go further, I’d never heard of this game before seeing it on a friend’s stream and I have to say, it’s one of the best games i’ve played in a while.

Now, to go in depth and please note this is based on playing full on, not the Light mode…

This game is one of those few games that, when you complete the Story, you can’t help but continue to play more and try to do everything, even with this I find myself playing the story again and again, I enjoy the gameplay and story.

The game’s battle mechanics are unusual, but they actually work quite well imo, also having to consider your SP and which attacks are best for the battle at hand adds to the fun, through defending can be hit & miss depending on certain factors, such as your Training, Power Flow build and Whether or not you use a specific Character’s Super Defense. Of course, Replaying does make battles somewhat easier depending, but battles later can still prove somewhat tricky if you’re not careful.

Very excellent game!! There’s two ways to getting your stats up. Through regular fighting and the growth plate system. The growth plate system is very vital to getting your stats up as well and via the growth plate system it can help your stats go into the five digit range with your HP being capped at 99,999 even though the max party level is only 99. Excellent story as well along with hilarious dialogue. Definitely worth buying!!

DRAGON QUEST® XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age™ - Definitive Edition

DRAGON QUEST® XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age™ - Definitive Edition

Ignore my gameplay time, I played through this twice on the Switch version at almost 200 hours on each.

Dragon Quest XI is one of the best video games I have ever played.

In 1986, a bunch of Japanese game designers came together, took the RPG elements that were floating around in PC games at the time, combined them, ironed them out, and (mostly) streamlined them, and created a Famicom game not quite like anything before it. To ensure its success, they got Akira Toriyama for the art and character design when his manga, Dragon Ball, was flying off shelves. Pioneering the RPG sub-genre that would be known as the JRPG, Dragon Quest was born. Admittedly, the original hasn’t aged fantastically but was perhaps revolutionary for its time. The series was continued and, by Dragon Quest III in 1988, it was perfected. Every entry has taken the formula and added new layers, sometimes removing previous layers, but it still has the same rock hard core.

Before I get to the “good/bad” stuffs of this game, I want to note something that might make this game not your cup of medicinal herb tea. It’s “old-school”, so to speak. Visually sure the graphics looks pretty and all but the story and gameplay elements and even the music feels classic. It doesn’t bother me too much but probably because I’ve played several past DQ games since III. “Modern” gamers or first-timers to DQ however might dislike this.

Other reasons why you might dislike this game would be:

His memory of the real world fades in and out among these dreams.

He found himself became as his younger self and met his childhood best friend again. They are all junior school students here, learning how to master the power of Dragon Spirits with the help of their teachers and many other classmates.

Déjà vu, he just cannot understand why everything felt so familiar and miraculous.

  • Adapted from a self-made board game created by one of the developers. She designed it at her very young age. Her teacher laughed and said that it is absolutely worthless and impossible to become a real video game. Many years later, she made this game for celebrating her graduation from college.

  • Catch, Train, Battle! The core of its game mechanic is inspired by the Pokémon series. Rest assured that our unique design will deliver a distinctive experience.

  • Tactical, challenging, and exciting real-time combat system. You need to choose the 4 skills for every Dragon Spirit in your team to create an optimized combination for battles, you must know when would be the best to use them.

  • There are plenty of side quests and challenges to discover and conquer, but be sure to enjoy your colorful school life. You can even reveal the secrets hidden among the history of Dragon Spirits.

The Dragons' Twilight II

The Dragons' Twilight II

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed Dragons' Twilight II [DT2], but you know…here goes:

Be sure to play DT1 before starting DT2. The story is wonderful and very important to know so you’ll better understand the DT2 continuation. I was a bit disappointed with the DT2 storyline at first. It is not as dragon-involved and doesn’t have quite the heart that DT1 had. But after getting into the game further a bit, I became enthralled with how the weapons, armor, and magic tomes could be enhanced or rearranged.

I can highly recommend this game. The developer has used clever changes in plot to make the story continually interesting. Just when you think things are getting predictable you are thrown a curve. The variety of music is excellent and the background scenes in battle and in travel mode are carefully done. Gameplay is interesting and fun. If you get stuck the developer is right there to help with advice. A great addition to the library of any old school rpg fan.

Death To The Dragon Lord

Death To The Dragon Lord

This game has a fabulous fighting system, dialogues are pretty well written but there are some problems in this game: the difficulty is very steep due to the fact that you are only able to save on the world map, and not in villages or a dungeon, on top of that I got stuck in a maze that was difficult to find a way out and eventually gave up.

This game reallly desperately needs a walkthrough. Despite a generic story and standard RPG Maker stock material it’s fighting engine is very well made though and there clearly was put effort in the game. I would only advise getting this one if you don’t mind a tough challenge, it’s not an easy game.

In addition to the nine characters who join the main team, hundreds of unique NPCs will also appear.Unintended discoveries of treasures can significantly strengthen a character, instead of the traditional upgrade system. The areas of the game are left free to explore from the start.

The combat system highlights the differences in resistance to the six types of magic: wind, fire, lightning, ice, light, and darkness. Different demons have different resistances to these six types of magic. The resistance of different demons to spells in the game cannot be directly observed. The various maps in the game are not marked with difficulty levels, while this could be done, the development team felt that it would ruin the authenticity of the game. After all, life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what the next piece will taste like. Furthermore, the weapons that characters from different professions can equip are different, and the vast majority of them have additional effects.

What are you waiting for? Come on a journey through this wonderfully magical fantasy world!
