Time Machine VR

Time Machine VR

This game has been a fantastic introction for me to VR and i am becoming quite a proficiant mini sub pilot. The VR graphics are amazing, a real sense of actually being there with all the vulnerability that would accompany that.

It can also be a great tool for people who suffer from a fear of heights and want a program that de sensitises them.I have discovered that the Time Machine VR game is great for getting the old acrophobia going. When you are at the base station which is sometime in the future there is a building made from steel girders etc with towers supporting satelite dishes. Land the pod at the front or back of the building then get out of the pod by simply standing up ( for this game you are seated) then take a step forward. From then on it feels like you are standing outside. Then using the controls on the X Box controller move straight up slowly to the roof of the building, it feels like you are on an elevator platform and totally exposed. If you have a fear of heights i guarantee this will get your palms sweating. When you are on the roof do a simulated walk around the perimeter of the building and if you dare have a look down. I could hardly do it to start with and the feeling i get is exactly the same as if i was really on top of a building. Iv just tried it today and i am just starting to get used to the feeling. I am going to do this for around one hour per day then when i can eventually do it without fear i will put the de sensitisation theory to the test by walking around somewher high in the real world.

I read a lot of whines about this game and so didn’t buy it until there was a fairly low sale price. The Quest 2 support is non-existent; you have to use Emulate Gamepad to play at all. So that’s a strike against it. OTOH, I found I liked it much better than the reviews led me to expect.

I’m a sucker for underwater exploration, and the water model is not bad (the surface high above is quite realistic, “blue gloom” lighting is nice, etc). The world could be a little more richly dressed (more marine plants for example) but rock formations are quite nice and the playing areas, if a little small, are pleasingly complex. It’s an environment that’s fun to visit and just loaf around in.

Prehistoric Marine Monsters is a simulation MMO that was developed by ‘Kill On Sight’ Game development and is still in the development phase.

Gameplay / Story

At the beginning of the game you choose from three different types of underwater inhabitants: fish, reptile or mammal. There are also categories which differ in the species such as: Dunkleoseus, Megalodon, Ichtiyosaurus, Liopleudrodon, Mosasaurus, Tylosaurus and Acrophyseter. Each type has advantages and disadvantages. You create your avatar and adapt it to your preferences. And then the adventure starts from the bird’s eye view and we find ourselves in nowhere in the great ocean. Soon we find some sunken boats, crashed remains of planes or simply stone pillars, which used to belong to cities. Our sea creatures will soon get hungry and we will have to look for food. Fortunately, there are enough other animals in the ocean that like to end up as a meal. But you have to keep in mind that everyone starts small, so you should choose your prey carefully and consider whether you should mess with an animal that is twice as large or look for something else. The models look great and you can see the attention to detail there. If you find another player, you can chat with him or even fight a duel, which is deliciously rewarded after the victory. The meat of the hunted prey tastes all the better. When you’re out and about in groups, it’s all the more fun. The controls still need a suitable fine-tuning, as it looks a bit fiddly and the game world could also be filled up so that it comes across even more lively. The developers are very active and you can find them on the servers, but questions can also be answered via Discord.

Isles of Yore

Isles of Yore

Isles of Yore is a multiplayer simulator that aims to make you experience what it was like to go through life as a prehistoric animal.

Survival

Claim your domain with an animal of your choosing in an environment that best suits your needs—dense jungle, treacherous swamps, and the wide open areas of the island all offer unique advantages and challenges. Compete with other players and AI in a bid for supremacy and survival in the food chain. The game’s core centers around making you feel like your animal, putting you in full control and giving you a sense of what it was like for the animal when it roamed the Earth, growing and tending to your needs. Balancing your thirst, hunger, and stamina are vital day-to-day concerns as you explore the rich environment around you alone or in a pack of friends. The initial batch of planned animals selectable for play will center around small to medium sized theropod dinosaurs like Coelophysis, with a plethora of AI driven characters inhabiting and stalking the land around you. The first early access release kicks-off with one playable animal, the aforementioned Coelophysis. Future updates will flesh out this roster further, with larger animals and aquatic biomes both planned and in the works.

Customisation

The game includes a character customisation, giving you creative control over aspects such as patterns, colouring, and skin types. Proto-feathers or scales? It’s up to you.

A dynamic world

The game is set on a large, diverse island with its own day/night cycle and highly variable weather. Fog, snow, and storms may reduce your vision as you navigate through the world. Or, if you’re lucky, you might be able to enjoy the aurora on a clear night’s sky.

Animals can be seen roaming the island, with carnivore AI hunting for their meals—make sure you don’t end up on the menu! A big goal of the project going forward is to build on the initial AI systems, such as by expanding the herbivore AI and generally making the animals feel more true to life with behaviour that uniquely suits them.

Custom servers

Documentation on server hosting is available, with a plethora of options available for server owners—weather changes, time of day progression, AI count, gameplay parameters such as the speed at which your needs deplete, stats overrides, and many more are all available to tailor the experience to your community’s liking.

Social

Going at it alone is not required, as grouping and chatting (toggleable) with your friends is fully supported.

A labour of love

Isles of Yore is a passion project started from a place of admiration for the awe-inspiring history of life on our planet. The path forged by games in the survival genre offers a uniquely visceral, tantalising glimpse into this strange and wondrous past, and the project intends to build on this formula with special care to highlight the uniqueness of the animals that came before us.Your feedback is most welcome in the Discord to help drive development.
