An interesting game to kill a little time after a hard day. The plot is interesting, it shows well the evolution of the main character throughout the whole game. If you are a fan of the series of games “Prehistoric”, then you will love the game. I would like to see a sequel with the same funny plot and gameplay.

Little Orpheus

Little Orpheus

The year is 1962 and NASA are trying to put a man on the moon. In a remote corner of Siberia, a Soviet cosmonaut is heading in the other direction. Comrade Ivan Ivanovich is dropped into an extinct volcano in his exploration capsule, Little Orpheus, to explore the center of the earth. He promptly vanishes.

Three years later he emerges claiming to have saved the world. He has also lost the atomic bomb powering the Little Orpheus. He is taken to a top-secret bunker deep below the Ural mountains to be debriefed by the fearsome General Yurkovoi, a man so frightening even Stalin won’t buy him a drink. The General rolls up his sleeves, fixes Ivan with a steely glare and say “So… where have you been comrade? And where is my bomb?” And Ivan looks him right back in the eye and says “Well General, you might not believe what happened to me, but I’ll do my best. Because it happened like this…”

Join our bold yet hapless hero as he explores lost civilizations, undersea kingdoms, prehistoric jungles and lands beyond imagination. Gasp as he battles the subhuman tribe of the Menkv and escapes the clutches of dreadful monsters! Cheer as he triumphs over impossible odds and brings socialism to the subterranean worlds!

Rex: Another Island

Rex: Another Island

A really good platformer that all takes place on one giant map/level, but still has several distinct biomes. You can beat the game in just a few minutes if you know where you’re going, but this is a game built for replayability and speedruns. There’s three endings- 1) collect all the gems and make it to a special exit, 2) collect all the coins and make it to a special exit, and 3) make it to the ‘normal’ ending exit. The gems/coins exit are considerably more difficult, as you might expect.

The controls work well, though occasionally they’re a bit punishing- you really need pixel-perfect jumps in a few spots. But it never feels unfair. Music is good, but you can turn it off if desired. Graphics are nothing that will blow you away but they serve the game well and have a great retro feel.

I get review copies of numerous games from Woovit and Keymailer, and stream them on Twitch. I have this segment for them where I play these games for at MOST an hour, to get an idea of what each is about and see what first impressions they give. Typically a lot of these games are sadly average as best and I fairly often stop the games before that hour mark because they just aren’t that fun.

When I got to my review copy of Rex: Another Island? I played for the full hour. Then I kept going until I beat it. I couldn’t help myself; this game is just too much fun!

Radical Rex

Radical Rex is hard, but fun platformer for the SNES. The game has cutscenes between levels. The Combat is really tough. I highly recommend this game if you want a fun challenge.

A fun 2D action game and a throwback to a time when gaming was simple and fun. Would recommend to anyone looking for a retro game to get those nostalgia feels going.

TRASH!!! A lot of bugs and the creators don’t give a shit about it, why would you put a “support” button when you know it is helpless and it won’t help anybody with their in-game problems.

Dino Run DX

Dino Run DX

Ahhhh. Good ol' childhood nostalgia. I’ve been played this for a long time before the SE verison was around. So what’s Dino Run DX? It a 2D racing game that you run thoughout the entire game. The game itself is quite fun. If you like racing or pixels, then you might like this product. Let’s explain some things about Dino Run DX:

Singleplayer

You must run to the left from start to finish in order to avoid getting swallowed by the doomwall. Walking into the end of the game screen will advance the player to the next stage. At some point, a DNA stonebox will pop up. By spenting the DNA, it will upgrade the dino’s speed, accel, jump, or strength of your choice. DNA can be gained by gathering up eggs (collecting enough will give you an extra life), super eggs, bones, accomplishing milestones, or by the player’s score. Once the final stage is completed on normal, hard, or insane difficulty, you’ll receive a milestone (or a trophy). If you want to know how to achieve milestones, click here . Not only that, but you earn hats as you make progress to 100% completion.

Dino Run or Escape Extinction: The original Dino Run (also titled Escape Extinction) was released on the 30th April, 2008. In that time the game has been played over one hundred million times making it one of the most successful flash games ever developed.

The original is still widely available… for FREE!: Although Pixeljam promises that DX has made significant improvements over the original it’s a hard argument to justify purchasing this over playing the original flash games. There’s additional game play options, more levels and more hats in the DX version of the game. Of course, Pixeljam have taken complete advantage of what Steam can provide for players – achievements, full screen mode, Steamworks integration,

There Was A Caveman

There Was A Caveman

There Was A Caveman is one of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam. Control a caveman and jump around retro pixel platformer levels, avoiding prehistoric animals and making paleontologists shake their head with sorrow at the scientific inaccuracy.

The thing about retro pixel games is that they are meant to appear the same as games in the 1990’s, because this is simple to do and you don’t need to have any artistic talent and you don’t need to hire an artist or anyone competent at computer graphics. That’s why retro pixel games are so popular with indie developers, the developers who weren’t good enough to get hired by game development companies. Sometimes, an indie dev will be so bad at video game graphics that they can’t even get the pixel graphics right, so their game looks even worse than the pixel graphics from the 1990’s that they are ripping off. That is the story behind There Was A Caveman.

Generally speaking this is a derivative platformer with excellent, detailed pixel art work. You have seen everything in it before, but that being said, it covers a wide base of platforming ideas and never overuses any of them.

+High quality pixel artwork with lots of care and work.

+Above average movement options - combining the dash and double-jump means the game can through some interesting platforming at you

+Good variety in enemies and bosses - derivative, but there’s new stuff in nearly every section
