Guardians of Orion (Phase 2)

Guardians of Orion (Phase 2)

I really did once support this game and its developers. It’s true, read my old Prelude review, it’s still positive. I was heavily invested in Trek Industries' first title, Orion Prelude, having unlocked 99% of its achievements. I was happy to see an expansion of the Orion universe away from the limits imposed by Prelude’s systems, and it’s always nice to see indie devs improve upon their vision of an ideal game.

The game itself is not bad, per se. It has a good foundation, easy-to-learn mechanics and addictive gameplay. I spent many long hours, almost 300, happy to play it, eager to explore the gradually developing content and new systems. The game has lofty ambitions, and that in itself is, again, not intrinsically bad. The way the developers went about implementing the change is where crap hits the proverbial fan:

Introduction: Guardians of Orion or also previously known as just “Orion” and also “The Orion project” is a pretty interesting and ambitious game which will probably include everything from PvP and PvE to space and planet exploration in the form of individual modules. As of writing this the PvP module is the latest module which was added besides the PvE module which existed for a while.

So besides the PvP module at the moment this game is pretty much like Orion Prelude (developed by the same developers) remastered in Unreal Engine 4 except that this game features more guardians or classes with more to be added but at the same moment it is missing vehicles which might be added at some point. Now I will mention regarding the various gameplay aspects.

I never played the original, but the style is still quite nostalgic. And who doesn’t like dinosaurs? Old school difficulty, but fortunately it doesn’t cost to feed quarters.

I honestly really love this game, but it crashes so often that it’s insulting to me and my time; and this has been an issue for many seasons. I always come back hoping they fixed the crashes just to spend an hour or more in an expedition and having the game crash before I can extract with 5 stars. It’s nice how you get some rewards as compensation, but this is just a workaround to the issue and does not reward you based on your time/effort spent and wasted. Please wait for the game to be fixed before buying.

ORION: Prelude

ORION: Prelude

Many people asked me about the game „Orion: Dino Horde“. So I have written a review now. ^^

First I have to say that the game has just 36/100 Metascore. But the Metascore was for the game “Dino Beatdown”, not for “Orion: Dino Horde” and the game hasn’t only changed the name, its totally different now.

For many people it’s still not a good game, because of a not perfect graphic (uff.. for me the graphic looks alright – I would give for it 7/10 points. – You can take a look at my Screenshots), some bugs (really the most Shooter Multiplayer Games have bugs/glitches…) and the not so realistic weapon sounds or I DON’T KNOW WHY!

UPDATE : ORION PRELUDE

There simply aren’t enough games with dinosaurs & even fewer of these that are actually worth playing! For me, Orion: Prelude (O:P) is that rare exception. Although not much in way of a story in the game (no single player after all), there is quite a tale on how Orion came to be the game it is today…

The short version is, that O:P is an evolution of previous Orion titles, Dino Horde & Dino Beatdown originally dating back to a successful 2011 Kickstarter campaign. Although recieving early criticism (that would normally kill a game ..dead.. disappearing into obscurity), the game continued to evolve with constant updates (big & small) over the years from the developers. Spiral stuck with it! This dedication & gradual refinement of the game has resulted in an excellent first-person co-op experience, with a well rounded collection of modes, weapons, enviromental effects, vehicles & more to enjoy.

5/10 Quite the bug fest there, Tt Games

Due to Steam’s 4000 character limit, this is a strongly edited review from Gao Li Occasionally Reviews

Childproofing Jurassic Park

While LEGO is famously kid-friendly, Jurassic Park flicks are monster movies where giant lizards devour unsuspecting victims, which is why many of the more violent scenes were toned down to make them family friendly. For example, the death of Donald Gennaro – the lawyer who gets eaten by a t-rex on the toilet – is still shown here, but he’s spat out after apex predator’s fight against a raptor. Zara Young, meanwhile, stays devoured by the mosasaurus & plays cards with other characters in its belly. That said, even though the developers managed to elude graphic scenes, they failed to edit out the “adult” language.

NOTE: I noticed a few comments on this review. Please note that this is an old review. I have not played this game in a long time. It was in an unacceptably dire state the last time I played, and I don’t plan on coming back to it. Some have claimed that the issues mentioned here have been fixed. I can’t confirm if this is true or not, but I did say that if this game receives a patch, then I’d recommend it. So keep that in mind, please. Thank you. 3

Anyway, here’s my review, still intact and unchanged.

Fossil Hunters

Fossil Hunters

I don’t like multiplayer games. When I play games, I play them by myself alone in a room with minimal human contact, I am a cretin.

Fossil Hunters has such a good understanding of what makes people work together that I honestly don’t mind it and it came as a pleasant surprise. When I play it with my friends it feels like we’re working as a team, taking on different jobs and actually helping one another out instead of finding ways to one-up each other. I was also impressed with just how polished the game is, especially considering my friends and I actively tried to break it only a few minutes after playing…

Pros

✓︎ Unique game concept.

✓︎ Possibility to switch between single and local multiplayer modes.

✓︎ High variety of fossil pieces.

✓︎ Interesting environments.

✓︎ Clear controls, adapting to the type of joypad used.

✓︎ Good graphics, with well done illustrations.

Cons

✕︎ Repetitive gameplay.

✕︎ Very punishing obstacles.

✕︎ No inventory or any mechanics to organise objects inside the base.

✕︎ Co-op can be played only on a single shared screen.

Fossil Hunters is an indie exploration puzzle game by Reptoid Games. The purpose of this game is to dig for and arrange together fossil pieces, creating dinosaur skeletons. It can be played alone, or by up to four players on a shared screen.

Beginning/P2W?

For a game that went quiet for about a year, its begun updating again with new events, a new dinosaur class, and new rarity. Im going to be entirely honest despite my love for the game. There is a significant skill gap in this game for those who are just starting it. While this game is cheap the store imo is a good bit overpriced with mutations being nearly 10$(does not exceed this) and regular skins ranging from 3$ to 6$.

While the store is expensive or not you can go about purchasing skins a different way and utilize the market to negate this if that is your only worry with purchasing this game.

I’m not even going to touch on balance issues and glitches and whatnot; there are plenty of reviews that cover these things in depth. While I’m sympathetic to the fact that the dev team has neither the manpower, time or money to actually do anything but they try to push on regardless, there are plenty of issues I cannot turn a blind eye to.

Like many others, my biggest grievances come from the community itself. However, despite what many reviewers say about “roleplayers ruining the game,” I have in my time rarely encountered roleplayers outside of RP servers (which I do not use at all). It’s almost as if you have to actively search for these things, imagine that!

They broke the Evrima version pretty bad a few months ago and left it that way, for all but a few new test servers they operate ( extremely poorly, I might add). So all the community servers have bugs saving your dinosaurs and most have fallen to 0 and even shut down operations. A few reverted back to the original version of the game. That version is a dead-end development wise, but I guess a solution for some is you want to play yesterdays years game. Things for a new player are just too messed up right now so hold off until after Evrima update 4 or even possibly update 5 is out. The mechanics are really changing now so it could be the best game then or very possibly a waste of money. Before, all of this I would of said buy it for sure, as my 1000+ hours played in Evrima shows.

When the game was released, this game was my favorite survival game, maps, jungle, tame dinosaurs, crafting, almost everything.

But since they created the TEK tier and the new maps, everything is gone.

It looks more like galactic fights than a survival game with dinosaurs. The essence that made it great has been lost.

Now when fighting pvp, either you are in a tribe with 5 friends or more, with a lot of tek or you do nothing. I recommend playing it in the Primitive Plus mode or else on PvE servers
