The Night of Joe

The Night of Joe

You have been so nervous, holding your CV in your hand for a job you need but don’t really see yourself doing. After the interview (that went horrible) you went to the bathroom to “refresh”, and you ended up falling asleep…When you woke up you still had this weird dream in your mind about a guy in the clouds telling you to be careful and giving you something…was it a flashlight?

Strangely you realize that it’s already night time and you’re alone in the supermarket. You’re holding the flashlight in your hand, thinking that you are still dreaming but it is reality.

Something strange is going on here…

While walking between the shelves looking for an exit you realize that you are not alone, something in the Night is hunting you.

Armed with your special flashlight, will you have what it takes to get out of the building?

  • Each time you die the location of some objectives are randomized.

  • Find and activate electric panels to then take the escalators and go on the next level.

  • Stop the monster with the special mode of your flashlight, but be careful it uses more battery and you will be defenseless in the dark.

  • Survive the Night.

  • No gore.

  • Meet Joe’s special humor.

Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles

Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles

To describe this game, it is a tribute to survival horror games of old and plays similar to them, so just a bit of warning as to what you’re getting into. Having grown up with these types of games, I enjoyed the experience and would recommend this to others. As of my writing this, only the first episode has been released, so the review will cover that.

First, we need to talk about the camera. We have fixed camera angles that will move from one location to the next as you reach the edge of the screen, somewhat obscuring the room by giving you limited view, similar to older Resident Evil games before they went over-the-shoulder action. However, with the exception of only a couple rooms, the angles are very well placed to give you information about the room while not completely hiding an enemy within it. If you look around upon entering a room, there will be clues as to what lies in wait for you, so be aware that if you are the type of person who just rushes into everything, you may get worked over.

Outbreak: The Nightmare Chronicles is a pretty direct sequel to Outbreak: New Nightmare, which is a primarily multiplayer based game. Lydia - a character from said game - is the only playable character in Chronicles. Unlike the jump from Outbreak to Outbreak: New Nightmare, Chronicles is on the same general engine and plays out pretty much the same. So, if you enjoyed New Nightmare, chances are you’ll definitely enjoy this game, as it’s essentially a single player version of the multiplayer title.

Devil in the Pines

I had a lot of fun with this game. Fun game to play in the dark with headphones. Those cursed bear traps kicked my butt for a while. I would recommend being able to map keyboard controls for those who have preferences. Also wish the crossbow would reload faster lol. Great job by the developers.

For just a few dollars, this is a pretty scary game. I recorded all 3 levels of difficulty cause why not, and there are some pretty interesting mechanics and scare tactics and the harder levels have added encounters it seems.

It’s very interesting and worth a look at.

As far as replayability is concerned, I’m never going to touch it again since I’ve beaten all 3 modes, but I am still glad I checked it out to begin with. It’s sort of more of a one off game, or if you do all 3 levels, a 3 off.

Overall, it’s decent.

Okay, let’s get serious. This game is amazing for it’s price. It’s a complex puzzle box from the depths of hell! It’s filled with all kinds of secrets, changing gameplay, gratuitous violence, sex, human sacrafice and amazing atmosphere for something that just uses the pixel graphics!

I HIGHLY recommend this lovingly-constructed tribute to the ’80s' most iconic horror films. It has the puzzle-solving feel of old Sierra On-Line adventure games (e.g. King’s Quest and Quest for Glory), in that there are several well-defined obstacles, which can be overcome in a variety of ways, limited mostly–but not entirely–by the player’s creativity.

The “collection” features four full games, each one a tribute to a set of horror films from the ’80s. Respectively, the games pay tribute to the Friday the 13th series; The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes; Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street; and finally Alien and The Thing. The game’s own lore recapitulates some major themes from these films as well, besides that of masked, blade-wielding serial killers: there are twisted family relations, backwoods satanic cults, revenge from beyond the grave, haunted video games, plus references to an in-game “true story” on which the Lakeview Cabin “movies” are based. It’s tempting to say more, but I don’t want to spoil anything!

Outbreak: Epidemic

Outbreak: Epidemic

Did you enjoy Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: revelations?

Well this takes those great games and adds darkness and co-op to it.

It is a game made by 1 person, so it lacks polish and content/replayability, but all in all, it is AMAZING. In its current state it somewhat lacks content (dev is adding maps though) and replayability (hopefully dev adds some sort of random spawns or some randomness to hordes, to keep same maps feeling different every time; it gets methodical once you figure out where things spawn).

Disclaimer: Well, there’s no sense hiding it with the trailer and screenshots on the store page… yes, I was a beta tester for this game. However, you can take a stroll through my past reviews and see that I’ve never pulled my punches when throwing criticism at games in this series, where it was warranted or necessary. So there’s my attempt at honesty and transparency… take it or leave it.

This is an early access review, accurate as of 07/10/2019… as the game progresses with significant updates, this review will also be updated.

Disclaimer: I am one of the game’s alpha testers, so I have some knowledge of inner workings that aren’t known to other players. Due to this, I made a guide you can use if a puzzle stumps you. Good luck.

Here we have the 4th installment in the Outbreak series, and just like New Nightmare was to the original, we have a large leap in multiple aspects. Gone are both the top down and fixed cameras for over the shoulder, and we now can aim our shots. Unfortunately, ammo here is more scarce than ever, so when you finally do shoot something, make it count.

In the 4th installment in the Outbreak series the dev has done a good job of evolving the game on many levels. They seem to be on the right road of many good devs in that they are obviously using their money to further their game creation abilities as well as improving the games themselves, be it graphics, mechanics, engines, assets, story and overall gameplay. (though I’m not interested in F2p games so I’m not sure i’ll be playing the next one). This however, as with the previous 3 is quite a nice and fun homage to the Resident Evil genre. The whole series so far has been certainly worth any money I’ve paid for them and I look forward to this developers continued evolution of both himself and his games. If you are into this genre this game, and the series in general, is certainly worth a spot in your libraries.
