HellSign

HellSign

If you’re new to this title, know that HellSign was supposed to the genuine, one-of-a-kind ghost detective/shooter game. But it was recently spoiled and abandoned by its creators, so… maybe you don’t want to taste it now.

The devs gave up their project. It is not labeled ‘Early Access’ now, but it is not the game we were promised. Not even a half of it. The story isn’t going anywhere after the ‘first act’, there are no more promises of different towns, different locations, and something else to fill the blanks.

This downvote is for the devs, not for the game.

Let me explain.

The game itself is very intresting, and (mostly) well-made. I had fun playing it. Searching for clues, hunting cryptids, preparing for the big ghost battles - awesome. There are a lot of cool elements like sudden shadow plane shift, extremely intricated cryptonomicon with awesome illustrations, poltergeist phenomenons like sudden flying chairs, ringing clocks, TVs, glitching equipment etc. The game even has very cool-drawn comics (max payne style) as a story turning points, though they are very few, just 3 if i remember right.

Redd’s Runaway

Redd’s Runaway

This is a tale about pain, suffering, and vengeance; about hope, compassion, and mercy.

Inspired by the Red Ridding Hood’s tale, Redd’s Runaway is a run and gun action game, combining a frenetic playstyle with an aesthetic reminiscent of the traditions of Halloween and the Day of the Dead, in a short experience aiming for a great replayability.

  • A run and gun 2D game, inspired by classics like Megaman X, The Adventures of Batman and Robin (Mega Drive) and Ghost n' Goblins.

  • Get inmersed into a world infused with the Halloween and the Day of the Dead mythos, where ghosts, monsters and demons appear at every step.

  • 6 worlds, each one full of enemies and a level boss.

  • Obtain new weapons and switch between your arsenal in real time, as you develop your own strategies to surpass this nightmare.

  • Different game modes, like Arcade, Endless, and Boss Rush.

  • Discover a story about revenge, when the sorceress Redd must stop an Underworld invasion in Brock City.

Redd was an orphan adopted by a master sorceress when she was just a baby. She has learned a few spells specialized in offensive tactics, to protect other people from supernatural menaces. She believes that life, as is, is chaotic enough, and is willing to help others in need against the creatures of the Underworld. After joining the Legion of Sorcerers in her adulthood and starting her training, tragedy struck her life when an unknown attacker killed her mother. With a scar as a reminder of the event, Redd suffered a deep trauma, which left her confused and depressed, pushing away her best friends and teammates.

When Brock City is under invasion, she will use everything she learned to fight along the Legion and defend the innocent, learning new spells in her way to stop this nightmare. But this event may put her abilities and strength at test until its last consequences: moreso, her true believings.

Join Redd’s journey to stop this supernatural invasion and the mind behind this nightmare.

Johnny Graves—The Unchosen One

The graphics quality were good style which i liked! spiders with fire spit? venom maybe?

Overall good challenging game because you can´t move if you shoot at the same time. Few minor “ooops im stuck” bugs didn´t bother me or why i can´t move over this small step (had to jump over).

But promising looking game afterall. I will definently come back after updates!

-First major update patch- 18.8.2016

  • Nice new monsters. “I like the hounds. They had hilarious dying sound and the puppet master is reeeeally annoying :)”

After playing through the first level of gunning down zombies and demonic spiders I can see this game has a lot of potential. Johnny Graves is a likeable protagonist; he’s witty, funny, arrogant, and just an overall bad ass. You have your basic range attack and special ability chain shot which I came in handy with clusters of zombies. I appreciated a lot of the little things in this game such as when the demonic spiders shot their fire attack and zombies ran into it they would catch fire as well! Overall this game has a great story, superb artwork, and fun game mechanics similar to diablo. There’s a lot more to come for this game and I can’t wait for the next patch.

The Game has great potential. It is lagging sometimes. But the developer is so proactive. He is releasing updates on time to time basis. I loved the game very very much.

This game is very dry.

Levels are undetailed. There’s only three enemies: pistol guard, submachinegun guard, and shotgun guard (this one is bald, that’s how much difference there is). You have three actions: fire weapon, telekinesis, and look ahead. Technically there’s also walking, but that’s useless and best left never used. Your character could win an award for most generic video game protagonist ever. There’s not much decor or interaction, beside breakable desks, black bottomless pits, exploding cylindrical tanks on some levels, and shattering glass, which the game author seems to have fallen in love with.

A Quiver of Crows

A Quiver of Crows

@C.:

_Les mouches bourdonnaient sur ce ventre putride,

D’où sortaient de noirs bataillons

De larves, qui coulaient comme un épais liquide

Le long de ces vivants haillons.

Tout cela descendait, montait comme une vague,

Ou s’élançait en pétillant ;

On eût dit que le corps, enflé d’un souffle vague,

Vivait en se multipliant._

A Quiver of Crows game. You, as a flying being, ‘a crow’, shooting with some lasers into some relentless ever-respawning undeads of various sorts.

This game needs some reviews, so I want to do a 2-hour first impression. The art in this game is astoundingly well developed. It wordlessly creates a lot of ambience as you fly your way through abandoned playgrounds and discarded remnants of civilization as a new dawn approaches a terrible day…

You play a freaking bird with laser weapons. If you’re still reading this, you want this game. It’s hard. Quite hard, but it can be enjoyed in bursts of 10 minutes or a whole rage inducing hour. The controls are extremely tight, and the weapons and enemies are all interesting. My favorite are the basic enemies, which I call the “Dental Association” as they chomp me to bits.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this game! There are some bugs but that is to be expected because it is Early Release. The Devs and everyone working on this game are amazing and very responsive. There have been so many changes in just the last few days! Most bugs are fixed within 24 hours of being reported. Such a amazing combination of puzzles and scares! I am absolutely OBSESSED with this game and have not stopped playing since I got it!!!

My friend “Egg” Is already on the nutcracker stage and its only been like an hour. Noice. I have about 50 hours played and still cant get past the deer stage. I start hyperventilating every time I see the deer and I also cry pretty hard. I now realize I’m terrified of deers. I need help. My friend is pretty good at this though.

The Last Defense

The Last Defense

ThugGames' goal is to build a series of games that explain one major story.

All of the games are from various genres.

We’re starting with The Last Defense to introduce our players to the universe’s story.

A continent driven by mythic powers. All nations have different abilities. After years of war between themselves, they now have a common enemy and are forced to unite and fight together in order to protect their world. There are five kingdoms. Only the kingdom of Murgaz is standing (Kingdom of Men / Middle Kingdom). All surviving mages join the forces, under the command of King Severin. YOU are playing from the eyes of King Severin and control your own defense by:

  • Build your own Defense!

  • Cast special abilities for every mage, based on their power. (Fire Mage example)

  • Replayable game with different experience every time you play.

  • Gameplay for hours.

  • Follow a story with every chapter.

There Was A Caveman

There Was A Caveman

There Was A Caveman is one of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam. Control a caveman and jump around retro pixel platformer levels, avoiding prehistoric animals and making paleontologists shake their head with sorrow at the scientific inaccuracy.

The thing about retro pixel games is that they are meant to appear the same as games in the 1990’s, because this is simple to do and you don’t need to have any artistic talent and you don’t need to hire an artist or anyone competent at computer graphics. That’s why retro pixel games are so popular with indie developers, the developers who weren’t good enough to get hired by game development companies. Sometimes, an indie dev will be so bad at video game graphics that they can’t even get the pixel graphics right, so their game looks even worse than the pixel graphics from the 1990’s that they are ripping off. That is the story behind There Was A Caveman.

Generally speaking this is a derivative platformer with excellent, detailed pixel art work. You have seen everything in it before, but that being said, it covers a wide base of platforming ideas and never overuses any of them.

+High quality pixel artwork with lots of care and work.

+Above average movement options - combining the dash and double-jump means the game can through some interesting platforming at you

+Good variety in enemies and bosses - derivative, but there’s new stuff in nearly every section

They Bleed Pixels

They Bleed Pixels

They Bleed Pixels - Satisfaction that comes at a price

If you check on Steam it actually comes at pretty low price. But obviously I was not talking about money. I was talking about time (which equals money) but let talk more about why I came to such a conclusion.

So if you have read my previous review you probably guessed that I like this game because it is a 2D platformer. And yes I like platformers and I was collecting them in the past when I had time to play any games. Naturally I came across this game and loved it at first sight. And why not? I watched the trailer and I saw fast paced action, lots of different moves and attacks. I loved this simplistic but beautiful art style. It also said it was inspired H.P Lovecraft which told me absolutely nothing at first but after searching online I know all I needed. Another thing that got me really excited was the number of achievements to unlock. And my friends know that I’m a achievement-junkie. But I should have read what those achievements are about. From the tags I new it wasn’t going to be easy and I was quite ready for that. So I grabbed my controller, fired up the game and focused on my TV screen…

They Bleed Pixels is a challenging wall jump platformer, with a satisfying unique premise, quality combat and engaging mechanics.

You control a presumably troubled student at the Lafcadio Academy for troubled girls. She stumbles across a magical book that makes you have wild dreams involving a few strangely horrific creatures, several bloody spikes, and an ever present number of saws. The book also has glowing bits and pages that not only are missing, but found inside said dreams. Take heed of any such events that occur in reality, as these are not normal behaviors for books or their pages.
