Wave Break

Wave Break

A fun and unique take on THPS style game.

  • Be warned that the game has a very steep learning curve, especially if you’ve never played a THPS game before. If you have, you should feel mostly at home, but the game does offer unique twists and differences in gameplay that you will need to get used to and master.

  • There is a lack of tutorial apart from the very basics, and there is a lot of vital information that the game doesn’t tell you apart from the occasional tip during the loading screens.

TLDR: This game is a lot fun playing solo or splitscreen with friends, especially for fans of THPS looking for something new and different!

Let’s get one thing out of the way, this is not a 1-1 recreation of a THPS game, and it isn’t trying to be. The controls are familiar if you’ve played those games, but a bit looser (Byproduct of riding a boat rather than a skateboard) and there are some differences like initiating automatics (this game’s manuals) or reverts that while easy to get a hold of will require some conscious effort to not rely on muscle memory for at first if you’re a veteran of that series. However, outside of its clear influences, this game has a style all its own! The visuals are fun and colorful which are a nice contrast to the more muted color pallets of other games of this type. The characters are animated well and the written dialogue doesn’t take itself all that seriously adding some charm to it. If you are a fan of Synthwave music this soundtrack is heaven, pairing very well with the art direction making it very easy to get into a relaxed flow with the mix of chill and upbeat tracks. I’ve had fun with the campaign maps I’ve played so far and am looking forward to the rest. The single player will have you completing more traditional goals like high scores, collecting letters, landing specific tricks and even collecting secret tapes, but there are also a handful of “story missions” for each level that have you completing tasks that showcase some of the more unique gameplay features in this game like the slow motion shooting while you complete various Miami Vice influenced objectives based around running product and encountering undercover cops. From my brief experience with the park creator, I have high hopes for what the community adds to this game over time through Steam Workshop content as there appears to be a wide variety of options and I can see multiple people collaborating on a park in a session together being a lot of fun! Multiplayer has been a chaotic blast and having a deathmatch option adds some nice variety to the standard time attack and free skate modes. I would however like to see more game modes from both skating and shooter games added in the future for example graffiti, HORSE, capture the flag, king of the hill, etc. Overall I would say if you are on the fence about this game based on what you’ve seen so far, I can confidently say it is exactly what it advertises itself to be and the quality is there so please do yourself a favor and give it a shot!

Oh man. I am SO glad I found this game. I was thinking, “Man. I’d really love a rhythm music game that was challenging.” Not that others are not, but I work as a musician so most of them are fun challenges for me but not necessarily challenging challenges.

THIS WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED! I’m a pianist so I love to two side difficulty. I love that it was use a mouse and keyboard instead of just keys “a/d” and arrows for two different movements difficulty. I thoroughly enjoyed the music. I loved that it wasn’t just move on beat, I actually had to do quite a bit of subdividing which is a great difficulty, but it wasn’t so hard that someone with little or no musical experience wouldn’t be able to find the rhythms. Well balanced.

Do you like a challenge? A race game? What about a race against time? Well when you buy this game I assure you that you will inevitably fall or harm the driver; but with great sacrifice comes… (add inspiring stuff here). Back to the point: It’s a challenging game but enjoyable nevertheless. The new update added new “karts” to play around with also bug fixes! Hurrah!

I also really like the aspect of having millions of tracks to try; a new game always has a fresh taste.

So overall its a fun game, reccomended.

THIS IS NOT PACMAN. It looks like it but it is not.

This is a sliding puzzle game - there are 100 levels. That sounds easy right? - Wrong. Its a sliding puzzle game with obstacles that are out to kill you and ruin your day. (if you look at a screen shot - if its orange, red, moves, or looks at you funny it wants to kill you.

Who is this game for? Do you want to challenge yourself? - Yes. Do you want to bash your controller/keyboard because you died 3 moves away from the objective - yes. Do you want to feel immensely satisfied at beating a level - yes. Great. This is for you. The game is a challenge, with a sense of timing, planning and logical thinking you can succeed. Go for that Perfect, do the level as fast as you can - challenge yourself to get a high score.

Hear ye, hear ye! Hear the news… and despair! For the robots have acquired rockets!

This is very much a fun, although frustrating game! The style is pretty memorable and reminds me of Borderlands. Controls are somewhat tricky in the beginning though I picked ‘em up quickly enough. The collisions/mouse are sometimes a bit finicky still, though maybe this is more of a ‘git gud’ aspect than an actual complaint :P

I’m definitely failing/falling often, most of the times by attempting to grab the collectible hats (which are very cute!) but the smooth smooth soundtrack helps rein in the frustration… No, seriously, the jazz is smoother than a baby’s bottom. Each time I go up again, though, I get a little bit better, a little bit faster, so I’d say this game also has lots of speed run potential! All in all, a pretty great game for a solid price!

60 minute review (in-depth review will follow after 10 hours)!

This game! It’s funny, it’s frustrating but mostly it’s frustratingly funny!

First experience:

After 60 minutes all I can say is: “FFFFFFFFFFuuuuudge” since I dropped down again after a brutal climb where I eventualy panicked from making the right move/jump!

And what do you get for it as a reward? A hat and a 300 meter drop back to the start.

Silver lining: Atleast you will develop the needed skills for that first part pretty fast.

Electro Ride: The Neon Racing

Electro Ride: The Neon Racing

Well, what can I say. The game is unique. First and foremost for the racing game lover I should mention a very unusual set of cars which Electro Ride offers you to drive: every car is real, and includes many less-known soviet prototypes you’ve probably never heard of. But check this out: the very first car that is given to you in a tutorial is FSO Syrena Sport - and that’s just the beginning. The cast of cars is rich, diverse and very rare - I doubt you will see anything like that in any other game anytime soon.

(Updated)

I honestly can’t recommend this game as it is completely unrealistic.

I have owned two of the cars that are in the game and I can tell you that they do not go above 120kph even in freefall.

Handling on the other hand is spot on.

You turn your steering wheel and the cars go straight. Sometimes oversteer sometimes understeer … you just never know.

I wouldn’t recommend the cars either, unless you live in a garage. Nostalgia is powerful poison.

Anyway back to the game. I’m half way into the career.

(Early Access Review. As an early access release, you may experience bugs, content, interface and optimization changes. If you are not excited to play the title in its current state and to help support the title to full release by reporting bugs and requesting additional content, you may want to wait for further development)

Introducing a remarkable family-friendly couch potato game that is jam-packed full of frantic single-player and multiplayer fun. What exactly is it you might ask? It is a combination of a time trial racer and brawler with a ton of spicy action! Take control of a character from one of the 4 available; if more than one person chooses the same character they will have a different color assigned, unless you or they have unlocked any more skins. No matter what game mode you play, you will need to grab pinatas spread around the tracks that contain buffs/debuffs (with random contents). They will either give you a weapon or a boost to use to gain an advantage.

Real player with 8.1 hrs in game

Before I bash the

! censored out of this game, can we take a minute and talk about time trial mode?

Why, the

! CENSORED, do you immediately take a -1s penalty on your first lap, because the lap timer starts counting before your character can even move?

I wouldn’t normally complain about something so small and petty… but this game’s time trial mode probably wasn’t even tested. Or it was tested by a

! censoreding TAS.

The turning circles for each character are awful.

This nice game follows the known pattern - easy to learn, hard to master!

It presents a great colorful main screen and even at a first glance it seems all quite well-made for being a indie game.

It also features a customization section and multiplayer, which is always nice if they’re playable and well-realized.

The core of the game is a one-button, fast-paced action timing game: you’ll play in a vertical scenario as a colorful line and you’ll come across lots of different objects - you’ll have to hold space in order to link to them, and they’ll make you endlessly run into a circle orbit around them.

Real player with 116.6 hrs in game

This is a fairly fun game which would normally get my positive recommendation if it wasn’t for some game breaking bug/issues

It’s a simple one-button game, an endless runner. where you keep moving forwards, try to avoid obstacles and stay in the main path by clinging on to these obstacles, rotating around them until you release the button which will propel you towards the desired direction.

The graphics are simplistic and charming with a few choices for the main “blob”, music is fitting if not a little repetitive after a while and the whole production/programming is spot on, but for the next couple of issues..
