Dark Existence

Dark Existence

BACKGROUND STORY

The year is 2036. You are a survivor living in an underground bunker alongside other survivors. The bunker is home to an organisation of scientists who conduct research and experiments on unknown phenomena related to the extinction event. It is your job to ensure that supplies are brought to the bunker as well as test subjects for the scientists to operate on. This requires going to paranormal sightings and capturing whatever objects or creatures you come across.

The world is full of these creatures and it is up to you and your friends if you choose to go with others, to make sure that you successfully capture one of them.

THE BUNKER

The underground facility where you currently live is classed as the ‘Multiplayer Hub’. All players spawn here together when hosting/joining a server. In the bunker, you will have the freedom to explore and investigate cases. You will also see the creatures that you have previously captured.

OLD MANOR ON THE HILL

One of the first places you will travel to from the bunker is the Old Manor, located a few hours away. There are reports of paranormal activity within the Old Manor from passing survivors. They have reported a strange figure staring out the window, and strange sounds coming from inside. You have been tasked to go inside and investigate the cause of this activity.

GAMEPLAY

In Dark Existence, you will play as a survivor who is trying to fix some of the damage made from the extinction event. You will be checking out places close to the bunker to see if anything of value can be resourced. Your main task however will be investigating paranormal activity which will involve a lot of stealth within dark and dangerous environments.

In the Old Manor, there is an old woman that has had her body taken over by an evil presence, she is smart, she can see very well. But she doesn’t hear very well. So stay out of sight.

As you work through the stages of investigating, you may find she becomes harder to evade. Discover her weakness. You must find a way to capture her, just be careful; she doesn’t react well to being hurt.

You can play alone, however, this is not recommended. You may play with up to 3 other friends that dare to enter the halls of hell with you. Look out for wardrobes, kitchen cupboards, anything with a door as you might just find something that will allow you to progress further.

GAMEMODES

  • Play Alone

A chapter-based singleplayer mode where you will play through the chapters of hellish nightmares.

  • Cooperative Solo

Deciding on helping out the world by yourself? You sure can, but bear in mind, this will be extremely challenging and terrifying alone. Grab a team.

  • Cooperative Mode

This would be the smart choice to make, play with up to 3 friends to help you, but don’t let your friend get you killed! Work as a team.

The Walsingham Files - Chapter 1

The Walsingham Files - Chapter 1

I love this game. It’s definitely what I want. I enjoy the old 2D pixel game, since I can explore areas in the map and inspect the items. The story is stunning in Chapter 1. Mysterious murder, I have to collect the keys and passcode from the people I meet. Some clues show up only once, you have to be very careful(such as Santo’s computer passcode). I actually got stuck on the storage room passcode part. Firstly I thought it should be Lexie’s(from the letter) however it comes out to be Alexandra who is a freshman Jewish. I then remember that in the former conversation, the detective noted that one of the victim is a freshman to high school and then from the canteen we found out that she might be a Jewish. The “Lexie"name is really misleading. Nevertheless, I enjoy that part. I’m looking forward to the next chapter.

Go grab your favourite pen and pad! At the beginning of the game it tells you – take heed. So put your detective garb on and start solving clues for this murder.

This is a follow up to the Silver Creek Falls Trilogy. I loved Silver Creek Falls. It’s a great example of an RPG Maker game done extremely well. I loved it so much I even wrote a guide.

This sequel doesn’t disappoint as it continues the standard already set. We are back with Detective Sara Fitzgerald to solve another murder in a sleepy town. Sapphire games follow the same strategy as Silver Creek Falls by offering the first part as a free to play game and the last two as paid games.

The Hell Hives

The Hell Hives

Highly recommend ! Yes, its buggy in some areas and the third level is a little laggy sometimes, that doesnt set me off from not loving the game, for 5 bucks, it’s a pretty cool concept game with a unique art style and the research lab is my favorite level ! Just love those graphics, amazing, you dont see ridiculous stuff like that very often, and this game is awesome for 5 dollars ! Hopefully, Adam will add more levels and stabilize the game in the future. That new survival mode he’s talking about sounds awesome ! Should make a research lab map/level survival mode with co op or online co op play, would be awesome !!!

Hello Neighbor Pre-Alpha

Hello Neighbor Pre-Alpha

While yes its a pre alpha and has lots of bugs, in my opinion it is what hello neighbor should have been, i mean the newer art style just isnt scary and it focuses more on the puzzle solving then the actual horror, i also love the fact that the house looks like a real house that doesnt have roller coasters or anything crazy like that it feels like your sneaking into a real home with a real person who learns things living inside it which i think really adds to the horror aspect, so i highly recommend this version as it feels a lot more like a horror game than it does a puzzle solver.

What Hello Neighbor Should’ve been. This is the first build of Hello Neighbor. It’s buggy, broken, crashes constantly, is extremely hard, but is a masterpiece.

The atmosphere is insanely good. The game nails the creepy atmosphere. The music that plays when you enter the house/when the neighbor is close is enough to send chills down your spine. The game is straightforwards enough, find the correct items to unlock his basment. He sometimes patrols the house, but usually just watches TV. Give it a try, you won’t regret it. That is unless your game crashes and you lose all your progress. Happy breaking and entering!

HellSign

HellSign

If you’re new to this title, know that HellSign was supposed to the genuine, one-of-a-kind ghost detective/shooter game. But it was recently spoiled and abandoned by its creators, so… maybe you don’t want to taste it now.

The devs gave up their project. It is not labeled ‘Early Access’ now, but it is not the game we were promised. Not even a half of it. The story isn’t going anywhere after the ‘first act’, there are no more promises of different towns, different locations, and something else to fill the blanks.

This downvote is for the devs, not for the game.

Let me explain.

The game itself is very intresting, and (mostly) well-made. I had fun playing it. Searching for clues, hunting cryptids, preparing for the big ghost battles - awesome. There are a lot of cool elements like sudden shadow plane shift, extremely intricated cryptonomicon with awesome illustrations, poltergeist phenomenons like sudden flying chairs, ringing clocks, TVs, glitching equipment etc. The game even has very cool-drawn comics (max payne style) as a story turning points, though they are very few, just 3 if i remember right.

DarKnot

DarKnot

DarKnot is a game about the extermination of monsters on the streets of a foggy city. Here you will find insidious opponents, dynamic battles and puzzles of various degrees of difficulty. It’s up to you to decide in what style to play the game.

Darknot is a gloomy world of eternal terror. You are the one who has been left alone face to face with death in its labyrinth. Challenge yourself and try to keep your mind sane meanwhile. Welcome to the third-person non-linear psychological horror game with a high level of detail and immersion by ElbrusLab studio, a new indie game developer.

The action takes place in a labyrinth of streets of a huge city. They feel deceptively calm while being deadly dangerous. You know almost nothing about the world and even less about yourself. You can become a part of Darknot, resist it, or find your own way. What will you do to survive? How far will you go to save yourself?

Explore the world, experience survival at your best. You choose your own style of play and strategy for interaction with each of your opponents. You can return to Darknot again, and your fate will be different.

Features:

  • Playability: we use immersive simulation and design the lore in a way that will provide you with a new experience every time you play the game.

  • Hardcore: it is not easy to survive, each death affects the plot development and the way you play through the game.

  • Several styles to play: Warrior, Explorer, Survivor, Fugitive. Who of them are you?

Escape From Violet Institute

Escape From Violet Institute

I really, really want to like this game. The 2d portion shows a lot of potential, and the shift from perspective inside the game proper is well done and keeps you interested in whats going on.

The game suffers from overly confusing sections during the 3d portion, I in particular had to speak with the dev twice due to getting stuck behind a plant and the game needing to have its collision changed, and another when a scripted event did not properly trigger to kill my character.

Please dev, if you are reading this if you could post a text or video walkthrough or hint guide or some such it would make it much easier, and less likely for someone to get frustrated and quit because they couldnt figure out what to do.

Das Geisterschiff / The Ghost Ship

Das Geisterschiff / The Ghost Ship

Short version: You can die in the tutorial. Hardcore! 10/10!!!

Long version: This game is the long lost cousin of King’s Field, if it was a sci-fi title made for the Virtual Boy. As such, those looking for shiny graphics and twitchy gameplay should stay away: the game’s unique art style looks blocky (although in exchange it works with a toaster, if you can read this you can play it), it’s a turn-based dungeon-crawled that demands patience to be played.

The sound effects are okay, nothing special in my opinion, but they do their job. The music though, it’s something else: It perfectly conveys the nightmarish, claustrophobic survival horror scenario that the author wanted to convey.

Laser-focused, ultra-minimalistic dungeon crawler. Think id’s mid-to-late 00s mobile RPGs (Orcs & Elves, Doom RPG, Wolfenstein RPG) their slim frame further stripped down of tissue so that the mere bone of combat, resource management and exploration remains. There are no crutches here, nothing placed at one’s disposal is superfluous or optional - one really must master what mechanics there are. Tutorial mustn’t be skipped.

The presentation is just as spartan yet equally put to just the desired use, minimal wireframe visuals supported by excellent soundtrack conveying this desolate, claustrophobic feeling.

Black Closet

Black Closet

Are you good enough to get into a prestigious college?

Well, you better hope you are, because that’s your ultimate goal as Black Closet’s main character Elsa Jackson. Actually achieving that goal requires a successful term as president of your school’s student council, and achieving that goal requires putting the lid on several potential scandals without damaging your own credibility too badly. Let me tell you, there are a lot of potential scandals, and other forces at work may end up making your life more difficult. But first you need to identify and neutralize the traitor within your ranks…

Real player with 104.5 hrs in game

Black Closet is one of my favorite games. The characters are interesting and sometimes complex, the story is entertaining and contains some interesting branches, and the gameplay is a really fun application of resource management to solve mysteries.

Elsa, the player character, is the president of the student council and must strategically deploy her “minions” (the other student council members) to resolve various crises so that their fancy private school remains respected while also trying not to ruin the student council’s reputation with the rest of the student body. These crises vary from mundane (the daughter of someone important might be failing a class) to serious (a student has gone missing). You need to assign the right minion for various investigative tasks that match their personal skills (for example, you don’t want to send the nice friendly girl to yell at a culprit or send the introvert to gather info via a friendly chat with a suspect) while also balancing your minions' needs because they will be temporarily unavailable if their workload causes too much stress. The cases are randomized, so this is great for replayability!
