Teardown

This game is wonderful.

From the satisfying explosions & realistic lighting and weather, to satisfyingly destructive fire and physics, Teardown is by far the most amazing game I have played in 2021. I may be a bit late to the party, but Teardown has the potential to hold up for the future. If this ever gets ported to next-gen hardware, it would be magnificent. Everything in the game is so amazingly satisfying. Teardown, I must say, is the ultimate stress reliever. There is something so magical about seeing semi-realistic destruction, with no real consequences. Don’t even get me started on the infinite stream of modded weaponry, maps, and random features I didn’t know I needed.

The destruction in this game works incredibly well. It may disappoint some, what with it still abiding by the logic of even a few blocks connected to something can prevent a structure from falling apart, but I ended up viewing that as a useful tool to better break the environment the way I needed to more than a negative. Additionally the first part of the campaign got a bit heavy on timer based missions in which you set up and then have a minute to grab various objectives then escape the level, but these definitely are less common in part 2 and when they do show up they’re different enough from the first ones you get to justify their presence. Overall though, the destruction is great and it combined with the objectives of each mission makes for some very rewarding gameplay.

The Van of Justice

The Van of Justice

The van of justice is an action, casual simulation game with a lot of physical objects. Experience systematic ragdoll systems, thrown and broken objects, which are not obvious to be found in other games.

“You get revenge, I build results.”

Police J comes to Kim, a student who was bullied at Turner High School in San Francisco, USA in 2005. J offers to give pocket money according to the value of the student’s arrest if he punishes and arrests the students who bullied Kim. Kim, who was bullied by all students, accepted the offer, and now Tooner High School has only to be avenged.

The way to realize justice

All students at Tooner High School are bullying Kim. Punish by throwing weapons or physical objects. Revenge if you make eye contact while walking around the hallway. Punish even if the breathing sound is loud. Even if you’re ugly, punish them. Punish both the teachers and the principal. If you take them to J’s police van, J will pay an additional corresponding price. You don’t have to feel guilty. Everyone is bullying Kim, and you are just realizing justice. If you lost interest in repeated punishment, it’s not a bad idea to carry out additional quests provided by J. If enough money has been collected, the ultimate goal is to purchase nuclear weapons parts through Kim’s home PC, expel all personnel in the school, and blast and demolish buildings.

Slave of capital, student leaders

The counselors (LMCD), as known as student leaders, will punish you when you do something wrong. Openworld games always has this kind of group. However, protection on students is not their jurisdiction. they only work for teachers and themselves.

Is this a school or a subway entrance to hell?

There are many unique friends in this school. Kim is also a very unique case right now. Coco Brothers, who throw up bombs when they’re nervous, Jay and Jenny, a nuisance couple who always stick together at schools where dating is prohibited. Right, There are also a psychopath dancer rabbit Bunny and a 500kg giant Terence who destroys everything and everyone on his way.

Just Cause 4 Reloaded

Just Cause 4 Reloaded

Just Cause 4 is the video game equivalent of Junk food. It’s fun in small doses but after a while everything feels like a chore. I know looking for plot in Just Cause is like watching a porno for the character development but the story is really bland , the villain generic and the entire game is bogged down by an ungodly amount of mini events that genuinly becomes a chore after a few hours. That said flying around the world using the jet-powered wingsuit is still fun. Also two of the DLCs (Los Demonios and Danger Rising ) are pretty fun.

Got this at 90% off. It’s a cash-grab sequel to a game series that reached its natural narrative conclusion, but for $15 I’ll pick it up, sure. Basically Just Cause 3: Another One.

A sci-fi dive in the 90s, both for the game design + gameplay and for the dystopic cyberpunk concept style.

Gameplay per se is a bit wonky and you have to get used to the stealth mechanics, which are really retro-style by all means.

Still, the game is pretty enjoyable, the atmosphere is right and the lore is well thought out, which you can extrapolate by the mission briefing/debriefings and from the files you download from the terminals, giving the appropriate feeling and background, much alike to the first Deus Ex game.

You are a one man go in and solve the problem type of covert or overt operative whom corporations hire to do their dirty laundry. Covert if you move effortlessly like a ninja from shadow to shadow, crouch like a tiger, and jump like a spider waiting for the right moment to feed needles into the skull of your enemies. Or overt if you prefer the cacophony of machine guns and the smoke C4 makes when you are fed up with doors that don’t greet you with open sesame right at your arrival.

You can even hack systems, steal company data and make some side income by grabbing datacubes and other interesting things that come at your way. And since this is a Cyberpunk/Neuromancer inspired game presumably made by transhumanist wonks who enjoy running around with subdermal chips under their butt-cheeks, replacing limbs and adding subdermal armor and other kinds of protections are also available.

While it is quite a fun and chaotic game, especially with friends, some things need to be addressed. First off, server downtime or overload of players at one go. It’s a pain wanting to go online with random players only to find yourself unable to do so. Second, and related to my first point, when you do get into an actual online game, it upsets me that players will disconnect JUST before I get my win. Wouldn’t be an issue in general, but the fact that you don’t get the money NOR the “level up” is very, very disappointing. This has happened to me twice in a row, and I’m absolutely furious! I don’t mind the money bit, but I want to freaking level up!

It’s okay, I just hate how the matchmaking is not like how it is in the prologue, where you wait in the jail cell and other people join and appear in the cell too, then everyone has to escape the cell to start the game. It was cool to be able to continually play with the same people over again, or they leave and new people join in and replace them. And they removed in-game chat from the main game as well, even though it was in the Prologue which is also frustrating, to remove a feature like that, that was in the prologue is misguiding and disappointing. The in-game chat made coordinating games easy and allowed some form of character to translate through the people your playing with, instead of just playing with random unknowns all the time that might as well be AI since there’s so little of form of communication. Fix the online to that form and this game will be much better. The online is just not generous or flexible like the Prologue which to me is like false advertising.

What a fun game. Combine Hotline Miami, Payday and Superhot and you have this. The levels get tough pretty fast, the story is a bit generic but true to life for low level criminals trying to make a big score. I played the demo for around an hour before committing to buying this. Really enjoyable, fast paced and very rewarding game play. Only a few missions into the game but loving it.

The weapon system is excellent, you can’t have 5+ guns like some games, it runs off a credit system. The credits represent free inventory slots. With this system it makes you think about your approach, will you need more space for cable ties? Or will you go in with guns and explosives.

The game is a lot like Payday with a Hotline Miami Top-Down perspective, you do heists stealthily or not.

This offers very interesting mechanics compared to Payday, in particular the fact of being able to move the tied civilians and to hide again his weapon in order to remain stealthy.

I hope it will become more popular and evolve through updates.

I did not have a history with Top-Down Shooters (also known as Twin Stick Shooters) until Hotline Miami. Since then I have started to enjoy them more, especially with Nuclear Throne. I usually saw them as cheap little games that had very little to offer, but those aforementioned games and a few others (Enter The Gungeon) have put them back on the map. However, those heavy-hitters are already so good that one might find it difficult to break some new ground. And yet, Mr. Shifty comes and seduces with a mechanic that just feels perfectly at home with this viewpoint: a “blink” or “teleport” ability, that you might know from Dishonored’s Corvo, X-Men’s Nightcrawler or a few MOBAs that borrow it from WarCraft III’s Warden hero.
