Megalith

Having played this game since the PSVR beta, I must say I enjoy the gameplay to this day! It is a polished experience with a great art style and ambient sound that is immersive. The lobby filling mechanics allow for unending play sessions (against bots or players) and very rarely have I experienced connection issues. Character designs are impressive with attention to little details that you would not otherwise know are there unless you take the time to look closely. Fights against players are intense as the sense of presence becomes more clear during battles. The variety of abilities keeps each character fresh and makes for great counter selections during pregame lobby character picks.

Well polished game that feels like another VR essential title.

  • The game requires snap/smooth turning (if you turn with your body, the character’s body doesn’t turn with you)

  • Index Controller configuration isn’t the best for switching abilities. This can be changed easily. I recommend changing the ability swap control to left trigger.

  • No crouching. The game will snap you into a standing position if you crouch with your real body. This seems to be intended so that you can play seated.

  • No items to purchase mid-game for your hero (like most MOBA’s). Though you won’t be bothered by it nearly as much when you see how busy the game is even without items.

Please do not think of Ace of Spades, Minecraft, or Team Fortress coming in to this, treat it as it’s own game, because it is. All gameplay elements are well balanced, and tie together incredibly well. In the context of pure gameplay, there is little you can say against it. It is the best game I’ve ever played, and that likely won’t change for a long time, I’m certainly a candidate for being the #1 fan.

Currently the biggest problem is the playerbase. It is quite low, and slowly diminishing. I’m sure the developers will be looking at ways to pick this back up. If you’d use a USA, or UK server, you shall be okay, but otherwise I’d suggest not purchasing the game. Queues may take a little longer than other games due to the low playerbase. However, if you’re in a long queue, please do not leave, it creates a perpetuating issue that is only solved by players being patient.

First of, dont get me wrong, I love this game, I wouldnt have played it for 2000+ hours if I didnt. I made quite a lot of friends through this game in the last three years and learning to play each hero is fun.

The gameplay is one of a kind, it’s a unique mix of building and class based objective gameplay, however, there are some serious issues with this game:

Tutorials

There are none. The practice ground can give you a few pointers about movement and the tutorial video provides tips about basic game mechanics, but the base setups shown in the videos are absolutely useless. Your best bet would be to search some gameplay footage on youtube and study the defenses and tactics of some high level matches.

The Legion of Maelstrom

The Legion of Maelstrom

Great dialogue, fantastic sprite work, and fun battle system! I hopped on board with Andrew R at the last minute and composed the soundtrack for the game, and I’m so glad I was part of the team, as I’m thoroughly enjoying playing it much as I enjoyed writing the music!!!

I really liked this game for a multitude of reasons nobody cares about and I recommend it wholeheartedly but gushing reviews are useless to other people, so I’m going to instead list potential deal breakers.

A few reviews make mention of humor and dialog but there’s not much in this game. There’s actually only enough story to get you going then the game steps back and lets you do your thing undisturbed. The dialog that does exist is pleasant enough and while a few lines of lore are scattered across some bookshelves, I didn’t feel I needed more story than what was given. If you’re expecting some sprawling saga, a speaking protagonist, memorable characters, or love exposition, you won’t get that here.

Lost Existence

Lost Existence

A fun, more challenging and complex alternative to other games in the voxel genre.

The creators were clearly inspired by Minecraft, but the similarities between the two games are all surface level. In my opinion, Lost Existence is a paradigm shift in the voxel genre, introducing unique combat and movement features such as double jumping, dodging, cling physics, etc.

It has the difficulty of a From Software title, customizable classes similar to World of Warcraft with a talent system and fusions.

I do recommend this game, but with some strings attached. Read on.

Don’t get this game if you expect a full experience. As of the writing of this review, the game is extremely bare-bones. Obviously this is to be expected from an early access release. What I will say is that this game has a lot of potential. It is stable, and in the 90 minutes I’ve played so far, I haven’t really encountered any serious bugs. There is a unique system of customization; you are able to choose to play up to 2 classes simultaneously, and all classes come with talent trees and perks. The skill systems will almost certainly be more refined over time. I do, however, wish the mouse movements were a little more crisp. Precise movements are essential for aiming in this game. We also need the option to re-bind more controls than simply the action bars (I type Dvorak, and it’s kind of annoying having to switch to the qwerty layout to play properly).

Evasion

Evasion

Excellent performance, medium lenght storyline (~4hs) excellent voice acting, audio and fun gameplay.

This game feels like it has great production value all around, the coop is very easy to host and join games (no mid level joining though)

I played this game a couple of times with my son in coop and its been a blast, the mechanics are simple, but they mix them up a bit to keep things interesting… As the enemies are robots, there is no blood and although violent, id say its family friendly.

BUT the game does feel a bit on the “simple” side, and does get a bit repetitive, in my opinion because you are forced to use the same weapon the whole level. (you choose before starting) The weapons are fun but would have loved the ability to mix it up mid level. and they are all similar, so there is no variation there.

Classic Halo-esque style combat! And it’s Co-op! Very easy to get into VR FPS shooter, think Halo meets Space Pirate Trainer. 9 Levels of Non-Stop Action that ramp up to a variety of different enemy types that require different strategies to defeat without dying (especially if you go at it alone during the last few levels!). Although the gameplay is simple, the player is rewarded for doing more than just point and shoot combat. You get health and surge/power ups by tactically using your whip to pull enemies apart. Kill them and miss a chance at a higher probability of getting a much needed health regeneration vial or that last yellow vial needed to release your powerful “Surge” attack and feel like an invulnerable bad-ass for a few moments. Took about 5 hours to complete alone, could probably finish it in 3 with a partner in Co-op mode. The only thing that could use work is adding the option to have controller directed movement, instead of only headset facing.
