CGWallpapers

Great little site, good wallpapers, shows talent that I was unaware of . There are some out standing computer artists out there with some of them here on this site. So much better than my stick figures. Well worth the price , only draw back is the time you will spend looking through it all, lots to look at. Peace

dissapointing, the images that are there are nice, but watermarked(like wtf i paid to get rid of the watermark)

no updates either, 20% revenue to artists seems paltry…

this could of been a good thing, but it seems to have been ruined by either poor planning or greed.

seems like the money would be better spent paying the actual artists for their work, not the 3rd party distribution this program provides

Black Ink

Black Ink

TLDR; An exciting platform capable of producing HUGE resolution paintings with highly customizable brushes. I have never used a painting application and been inspired BY the painting application itself before Black Ink.

To get a good impression of this product and its developers visit the Black ink forum: http://forum.bleank.com/viewforum.php?f=3

The following is based on my personal experience and user feedback I’ve read in the discussion boards.

Be aware that this software is:

  • In development. Updates roll out on a regular basis, and u2 (developer) is highly responsive to suggestions and issues. Some tools you might depend on may not be included in the current version. For example, at the time of writing this review there is no smudge tool but it is slated for inclusion.

Great Computer Art Program

Black in is an abstract conceptual art program that uses certain brush settings inorder to convey concepts from the artist.

Preface

  • For those looking to get the most out of this program: I would recommend using a graphics tablet; as it helps simulate using traditional mediums such as drawing or painting. If you can draw fairly well without looking at your drawing hand, a cheap wacom or Huion tablet will do. If you’re having problems with hand-eye coordination, you could try for a higher end graphics tablet with a digital displey (such as the Wacom Cintiq 13HD), or practice a lot more with the current tablet you own; However, graphics tablets aren’t required to use Black Ink.

Especially for the money, I don’t think you’ll find a program more fun to use when putting together your games. I haven’t found a more flexible engine (Short of maybe Unity, which still requires extra licensing) to quickly piece together scenes and basic mechanics to sketch out game ideas without diving into a million menus. They don’t even have to be simple prototypes, as I am also able to implement complex mechanics in no time at all using easy drag and drop scripting. I have found that my only limitation so far has been my own terrible math skill.

I’ve used 001 now for almost 15 years. I’m currently working for SoftWeir Inc. and have contributed to 001 in many ways. That being said, I originally purchased 001 years ago through their website as any other customer, and not just given a free copy as a team member. I’m not being paid to write this review.

001 is a very capable engine designed to bring your ideas to life, as quickly as possible. You can import assets, just plop them into a map or interface, tweak some triggers then start building a game. If you are familiar with the engine, and have the assets ready, you can quite literally prototype ideas in under an hour (Of course depending on how many existing systems and assets you can leverage, and what gameplay you are looking for)

Floating Girl

Floating Girl

Easy Little Shmup

First off, this game IS safe for work…depending on who your boss is. The unlockable artwork contains no naughty bits or suggestive themes, so…those game tags were big fat lies.

In fact, given how simple this shoot ‘em up is, Floating Girl is practically safe for children. In other words, it will NOT tax your gamer skillz, but should be just about right for a 5-year-old. I kinda hoped the difficulty would increase with each level, but it did not.

Extremely slow “bullet hell” arcade game. As you destroy the little spaceships an ecchi image of a girl slowly lowers.

-There is no sexual-content/nudity

-There is no patch I could find to fix that

-The does not offer anything that another game does better already

It’s so barren that there isn’t even much to write about it. Very simplistic.

Umurangi Generation

Umurangi Generation

Either a fresh, laidback, visual experience or an engaging, arcadey, bumpin game; Umurangi Generation is one of those games where the pleasure is found with your view on gaming in general.

To a common player, it may just look like a straightforward “Find objective, complete objective” game. Of which, let’s not lie to ourselves, it is and that can be pretty dull for some people. But, I found myself playing each level twice: Once to intake my surroundings, keeping mental notes, understanding the worldbuilding and crackin’ lil gags with the NPCs around the stage because I enjoyed putting myself in the character’s (invisible) shoes. The second time, with the information I had gathered, to go with a more arcade “speed clear” approach since trying to map out an effective path to knock out every objective in under 10 minutes was a fun little challenge. Now, I didn’t go HAM on it to try and get the best darn time there is but more like a little trial of “Okay let’s see what I can do…”

Umurangi Generation is pretty much the ultimate “lo-fi beats to relax/study to” game. There’s not really a whole lot to playing it. You just walk around taking pictures of things in environments that are totally static except for characters going through animation cycles. And yet its culmination of lo-fi graphics and music is still absorbing enough that I played through each level multiple times and got 100 percent completion.

It’s one of those games with low-poly, low-resolution graphics designed to look like it was made in the late 90’s (other examples like Paratopic or Sagebrush deliberately evoke the original PlayStation but Umurangi is more like the Dreamcast). But instead of being a horror game its vibe is somewhere between Jet Set Radio and Neon Genesis Evangelion – colorful urban landscapes, anime-inspired characters, rap music, impending kaiju doom. It works so well that during my first run I kept playing just to see where each new level would take me. These levels aren’t just attractive in a sort of retro, cozy way, they’re also packed with small details, just begging you to photograph every inch of them. The chillhop music fits all this perfectly. I bought the soundtrack and still listen to it.
