But the moment it actually happens, the rest of the platoon is whispering: “Haven’t you heard the stories?”, “…heard someone disappeared there…".The stories about that place are innumerable. Human sacrifices, shadows running in the trees and souls still lost that sing a dreary song. When you ask your superior, he just laughs it off…

A Confusing Attempt at Coop Horror

I look all over Steam for random / unknown Steam games to play. This was one of the chosen titles this week! If you’d rather watch than read, you can do so here:

[Thoughts and First Impressions]

I love coop games. It’s so nice to sit down with someone you like (or hate, depending on the game) and play a game where you have to work together to solve puzzles and get to your goal. It’s always fun, even when the game isn’t necessarily great if the puzzles are good then you can forgive a lot and get through it. This game is not that case. This game is a case of a neat idea that just failed on the execution.

So I beat the game I’m not sure if the ending is supposed to be just a black screen, but that was kind of lame. The first blood achievement doesn’t seem to work nor does the beat the game achievement. I did get a cool “Kind” of ending when she killed me with 5 photos overall I think if everything worked better it’d be a really good game, but with how it is now it was still fun and it scared the heck out of me before I realized escaping her is a bit easy. Waiting for certain things to spawn and running to them in time can be a bit arduous though. Games a wee bit too long and RNG with the spawnings to keep beating the game only for it to glitch in the end with the black screen if that’s not supposed to happen. I had fun though so I’ll recommend.

Solomon Division

Solomon Division

Solomon Division is a 2 player online co-op psychological horror where you and your friend are employees of an agency that hunts demons breaching the border between our world and Hell. You are paranormal investigators and hunters who will enter haunted locations to find the type of the invading demon, find the object they possess, and banish him to Hell with a special ritual. Technicians will use your advanced equipment to search for the demon, and the Medium will banish the demon to Hell with her rituals.

You will choose one of the playable characters, playing either as a Technician or Medium each of whom have their own strengths and weaknesses. Technicians use their equipment to locate the room the demon is causing trouble in, while the Medium finds the name of the demon, and exorcises it. The demon gets more and more powerful the longer they remain in our world, so you have to be in haste, and prepare the ritual as soon as possible!

  • Co-op multiplayer: Play by yourself or alongside your friend in this co-op horror where teamwork is key to your success. It is a combination of co-op mechanics with intensity and addiction of horror games.

  • Core Gameplay: Incredible graphics on a level that is beyond the other games, and minimal user interface will keep your eyes open (or closed if you are a scaredy-cat). The core gameplay is based around searching and exorcising the scary supernatural being that haunts the place.

  • Unique Locations & Demons: The creature, and location type is randomly generated in AAA quality. Three haunted locations that are familiar, but still scary, and over 5 different types of Demons all with unique names and requirements to banish them.

  • Investigate: Use your advanced equipment to gather evidence, and find the demon as soon as you can.

  • Full Voice Recognition: The Demons are listening! Use your actual voice to interact with the Demons.

Hide Seek Survive

Strange for this short game eats 17gb storage , but hey it has few days , looks decent for new gameplay. Anyway , need many improvements….

1. Setup " Esc " to get a menu for some adjustements " audio video”

2. Make room’s little more smooth lights or modify npc texture with some fluorescent

3. Obstacles will be a funny thing here if you can pickup them

For sure list can continue , but step by step this game will grow up if dev really wanna push it up !

Don’t waste your time trying this; it doesn’t run properly. Absolute dog poop performance. This game is 17 GBs, for one, and is made in Unreal, and is totally completely not optimized at all, and will turn your computer into a fried potato. The lighting rendering is literally the worst thing I have ever seen in a game, especially coming from Unreal. The concept woulda been neat if I could fricking play the game. All I could do was walk into the first closet in the room, and then I could not even tell where the monster was based on its sounds. The locational sound system is poop and unhelpful and inaccurate. Overall this was a disappointing experience. I was actually looking forward to try this silly game, but oh well. PRO TIP: Don’t use Unreal to make your first game. I’m imagining this was a game jam project - props to you, but like.. don’t post this on Steam when it can’t even run at 1080p. You don’t even have graphics or audio options in the menu. There is no ESC menu, lol.

Misery Mansion

Misery Mansion

To the developer: Too short. I was expecting to find the bodies of the parents.. or that it was a fake ending. The sigil pointing towards the exit door seems to indicate it was a trap and fake out AS DOES THE FACT THE MONSTER STILL ROAMS AROUND IN THE HALLWAYS AFTER THE RITUAL IS DONE THAT BANISHES HIM. Both of those led me to thinking there was going to be a trick ending. But no. Just a bland.. “the end”.

It’s worth playing and fun. But dude. I beat it in 3.5 hours. That’s not enough entertainment for a 6.99 game. A good rule of thumb is a dollar an hour.

I really liked this game. it is a pretty impressive level design, graphics looks good, sound design is really good. And for a first game it is really impressive, and i really do hope to see more horror in the future from this developer. Gameplay is pretty simple, you explore the mansion, find some notes, and avoiding a monster while doing so.

Now with that said, I did have a few performance issues here and there when saving and loading in the level, but nothing game breaking and that even might have been fixed since i played. The character do walk a bit slow, and that makes you want to run all the time, but that will make you miss the most of the atmosphere. A few more scares here and there would have been welcome too :)

Agony

Agony

Kickstarter supporter here. No spoilers in the review!

Phew, it’s a long wait between the moment you decide to support a crowd founded project, and the date when it’s finally out. Agony was founded 2016 November 14th, so it took 1 year and 6 months for it to release 2018 May 29th.

I’ve completed the game for the first time yesterday, it took me ~9 hours to go through the campaign.

Strengths:

Art / Environments

The design of the various landscapes in hell is both detailed and unique. It’s a simple concept to have an underworld, with some skulls and lava, but Agony went deeper then that with many layers of environmental styles. Just a bit of surreal touch the likes H.R. Giger dreamed up on a colorful spectrum and dreamy atmosphere. They went the extra mile to distinguish the major areas with their own unique flavor. Perhaps, there are good news for those waiting on ‘hell freezing over’ after all…

Short Version

I am actually quite mixed on this game.

Whilst the setting, mood, etc. are very unique and well done, there are a lot of bugs and glitches left in the game.

So I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and recommend this game, hoping they’ll fix these.

Long Version

The setting is just done perfectly. You always feel the discomfort of being in a place, that you really don’t want to be.

Whilst the story is … tbh I really don’t know. You’re told that everyone is somehow drawn to the Red Godess and at least for me they managed to pull that off. Although you read in a lot of memos, that she’s literally the worst hell has got, I really wanted to get to her. But other than that, there’s a bit more of motivation later, but that really is it.
