Don’t let the initial presentation fool you - this is an incredibly creative 2D platformer with unique visuals and an outstanding soundtrack. My first playthrough, I constantly found myself saying “the next level couldn’t get any weirder than this” only for the game to do just that.

The only caveat is that some levels are a bit obtuse and frustrating to figure out without a guide - but that’s something you can find easily enough.

Ticket is the product that challenges your preconceived notions of what games are about. It is certain that the so-called seriously taken game reviewers would not be able to give acclaim to this game, as it does not follow the conventional rules of high quality game design. This tells about the sad state of gaming industry rather than about Ticket though. If you are the person who thinks that good games follow strict rulesets of certain design-economic and mathematically measured criteria and are usually some sports titles followed by a running year number or the latest installment of a well-established series, then Ticket might not be for you.

Santa Claws

Give the perfect gift

Even Santa can have a mental breakdown. Let’s face it our modern world is becoming too much for the old guy. He is just one cookie away from….(find out in the game). This season give the perfect gift to your Steam friends. Sure, this game is cheap and devoid of substance, but its entertainment value is unmatched for its price. My son, after playing, is no longer looking forward to seeing Santa this year. I’m kind of glad because it costs a ton for pictures with him at the mall. Enjoy

Had a lot of fun playing this game, can’t beat the price and its festive for the time of the year! I got on the naughty list just by eating the candy canes, now those gingerbread men will forever be the ones that got away. Here is my play through, the maze took a little bit of time but I figured out a way to dodge Santa:

Deadlands Noir - That Old Time Religion

Deadlands Noir - That Old Time Religion

Sam Spade [Humphrey Bogart ~ Maltese Falcon (1941)] has nothing on Harvey Jenkins when it comes to being a hard boiled private detective. This is ‘Film Noir’ without the film.

Stories are set in 1935 New Orleans, Harvey Jenkins is a man about town who has unlikely friends and makes powerful enemies. But that is what happens when one is a private detective that takes on unusual cases, those of the supernatural kind. He and John Constantine (Vertigo comics Hellblazer/2005 movie) are much alike, one foot in Hell and the other in Heaven.

While I briefly played the Deadlands tabletop RPG back in the 90s - yup, I’m THAT old! - I’ll confess to having never so much as HEARD of this Deadlands Noir phenomenon. Now, considering that Deadlands was more-or-less a transposing of Call of Cthulhu-style antics into a Western (read: cowboy) setting, I’m not quite sure what the purpose of transposing Call of Cthulhu-style antics into a 1930s setting is, considering that that’s precisely when the original Call of Cthulhu RPG was set anyway! BUT…I’m not here to query the existence of a tabletop RPG, I’m here to review a video game/“visual novel” set in that universe. So get awn wit' it, already!

Locked Up

Locked Up

So, this was a game that I didn’t hate but I wouldn’t go so far as to say I loved the game, but I did enjoy playing it. The story itself was pretty good (given that it does play on the usual horror storylines). It was one of the games that doesn’t tell you but rather has the player rely on finding hints and notes that flesh out the story for you. And it was done well enough to understand the story. It did throw me off for a bit, since the game did jump around in points of time, which makes it a bit hard to get what’s going on in the beginning. I assume this is done intentionally. The game is a walking sim horror game, so I didn’t expect to get scared as the player can’t actually “die”. That being said, because it is only a walking sim, it relies a lot on jumpscares and tension to create the scary atmosphere. Most of the jumpscares were lacking, though some were done pretty well (not that it made them any scarier). The game is set in a very small enclosed area (a house with a handful of rooms that you can sometimes enter), so there is a LOT of walking back and forth (even intentional moments of walking back and forth just to trigger the next event).

I waited a few days after completing this game to fully absorb what I had just experienced. Also, I had ants on my keyboard. But that’s neither here nor there. :P

Locked up certainly has its flaws, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I play a lot of PT inspired games. The more I do, the more I see why it never really made it to print. :(

80% of this game is walking up and down a hallway waiting for changes to trigger. There are some puzzles which aren’t too bad. And no combat, which is fine.

The story was a little confusing for me. I understood the core of it:

! a family moves into a house and an evil spirit finds a way to manipulate them into turning on one another. I think. It was a little hard for me to follow why things were happening or how the beginning or the end were connected to the middle.

Nevrosa: Escape

Nevrosa: Escape

Been playing the game now for a few hours. I am liking most of it, but I do have a problem, with some of the ways the game is going. Since there is no save as of yet, I am finding it greatly disturbing, that I have to go back and do the same Puzzles over again. This is not really that bad, what is bad, is the puzzle solutions have changed since my last login. Like the Mouse Puzzle, this took me a great deal of time figuring out this puzzle, only to do it again today, and find out my last solution is no longer working.. If the puzzles don’t change, well there is a Major bug, that needs to be addressed, if they do change, all I can ask is why? Why would i want to redo a Puzzle over and over, since I can’t save my game?? Other than that, the game is very much worth the price, and I am enjoying playing, minus these little Problems.

What a wonderful piece of art. This is somewhat like A Chair in a Room but in victorian steam punk style.

It’s not a horror shocker game but Nevrosa will play with your synapses good. Imagine your head clamped in a vice and progression in this game tightens it slowly. Feels like a weird surreal nighmare. Amazing atmosphere, good graphics, nice roomscale and a lot of love for detail. The puzzles are just right.

Really one of the better titles out there for VR. Check out the free demo Prelude, it gives you a good idea about what you are going to deal with. Highly recommend this game if you have a big tracking area.

Nevrosa: Primal Ritual

Nevrosa: Primal Ritual

I enjoyed just walking through the world and looking at the environment and creatures. Also, there’s a good story and puzzles. Farming creature souls can get a bit grindy, but the game isn’t too long, so it’s okay. I like that I can freely walk around and shoot stuff. I hope we’ll get more open world Nevrosa games like this.

I almost gave this game a negative review. I experienced several bugs during my playthrough and one of them was game-breaking as the red cube suddenly disappeared after teleporting to the base camp so I had to quit the game and restart. Unfortunately for me, the auto-save did not save a big chunk of my progress, which included just beating the huge boss fight (which was just a lot of spiders and some huge patrolling enemies that added into the fray).
