The End o,,,o

The End o,,,o

You are a slow-moving pixel zombie who can shoot fireballs and just wants to get home. This is a very (VERY) old-style, slow, MS-DOSesque platformer(?). Very short, very vague, and very odd. Single life- you screw up, you’re starting over. And that dude moves REALLY slowly. Good luck building up the patience. The music isn’t awful but just kind of drones on slowly.

Gameplay: https://youtu.be/sKpDX2KKuP4

It will likely take you all of 10 seconds to download, so check it out I guess? I say this often- but– give us a ‘Neutral’ option, Steam. I don’t really recommend this, but there’s nothing worthy of a thumbs down. It accomplishes what it’s trying to accomplish.

O,,,O is the sad story of a fire demon that wants to go home. You control a purple undead by using WASD and SPACE to walk, jump, hit next and throw your fireballs. A tiny retro treat that fullfills its simple ambitions. Interestingly enough, this title was originally developed for the C64, but I’m glad a free PC port made it to Steam because now we can all bask in all the glory of its 3FPS. However, because of this glorious framerate, the controls can feel clunky at time – but nothing serious enough that will get in the way of your journey back home. The soundtrack is a depressing 5 second loop, but the enemy deathcries are so jarring they might as well be jumpscares. In addition, despite being heavily pixelated, O,,,O successfully creates an eerie atmosphere that makes the player feel like if they were walking through a graveyard in the dead of night during a full moon. Moreover, the game ends with

! a bloody question mark, meaning that there might be a sequel depending on the traction of this demo. Let’s hope so!

Abtos Covert

Abtos Covert

“Abtos Covert man, I’m tellin' you. Easiest post there is, just a few nights and you’re off the hook. Only the outpost, a small shrine and the rest of the forest can be seen…

What did you say? Strange shadows? Weird sounds? Paranormal activities? Those are just legends, bedtime stories man! There’s no way there is stuff like that out there!”

About Abtos

Abtos Covert is a survival horror game in which you play the role of a soldier keeping guard on a remote outpost out in the woods. You must keep your wits while searching for the truth. Story

Well soldier, seems like you’re that guy. You drew the short straw and now you are to be stationed in the Abtos Covert outpost, a place commonly known for being quiet. But the moment it actually happens, the rest of the platoon is whispering: “Haven’t you heard the stories?”, “…heard someone disappeared there…".The stories about that place are innumerable. Human sacrifices, shadows running in the trees and souls still lost that sing a dreary song. When you ask your superior, he just laughs it off…

Flicker of Hope

Flicker of Hope

I really wish I could recommend this game. There are some very interesting aspects to this game that I’ve never seen before. Unfortunately, however, the gameplay is just too poor to recommend.

First the good: So, the first thing you’ll notice is that the main character design is absolutely adorable and beautifully representative of the themes of light, hope, etc. that is visually expressed throughout Wick. Additionally, the way that Wick and the candles that he lights are the only light in the map (and how the light changes as you sneak and run) and the idea of the light being what leads Sister Mara to you is gorgeous and elegant (and can only really be expressed in the form of a video-game). Finally, the method by which Jean Wick revives is by possessing one of the candles that he’s lighted, which once again is beautifully representative of the the theme and story of spreading light around the cathedral.

Pros and cons are down below) Check out the gameplay here (the game is the 1st there):

Advantages:

1. A very cool stylee! It’s so adorable but terrifying at the same time! Reminded me A LOT of Little Nightmares. Such a great job on this one!

2. I absolutely loved how the story is unravelled through the environment! Game mechanics are also fascinating, I never ever played as a candle! I think the whole concept was amazing!

3. The game was terrifying! I loved it! It’s so cool! I didn’t expect that I will produce high pitched screams playing this at all!

KOBOLOK

KOBOLOK

Great atmosphere, interestingly perplexing short story with little secrets to discover and different endings.

The only downsides are the few grammatical errors and the price, 90% off would be idea for this little gem.

I had some fun and some spooky moments playing this game. It’s quite good at delivering some of those, but if you’re looking for a more polished and deep experience, you should probably look elsewhere. The story confused me more than provided emotional connection to the thing, the scenes sequence and transitions felt janky and random, as well as the selection of most of the visual iconography. With that said, this game is rich with strange images and scenes, that are weird to the point where anything stops making any sense and you just stop and think to yourself: “What the f*** did I just saw?”. Most of the time “the spooks” were quite effective (although I must admit that I don’t usually play horror games, so more experienced players might find them less so).

Hanefield Asylum

Hanefield Asylum

For a solo developed game, this played pretty well. The jump scares weren’t obvious like in a lot of games, and offered a good sense of fear throughout the game. The additional content after you complete the game was great. A lot of action in a small amount of time, and added more depth to the story of Hanesfield Asylum. Definitely a great buy for less than $10.

I actually had some fun playing this - I thought it was a great premise and the spooks did work really well. However the lack of a save game is a major thumbs down. I can cope with the excessive shots enemies need to bring them down and some glitches here and there - but I’m doing a series on this game on my YouTube channel and haven’t finished the game in one go so I’ve had to go back to the start every time I want to play the next section.

Enjoyed the horror theme though, the devs nailed it.

Possession 1881

Possession 1881

A fairly good game.

Puzzles were generally easy, although a walk-through was required in one instance.

Game-play was unnecessarily let down by having to repeatedly adjust the screen contrast/brightness levels.

Game ending was poor - Too sudden.

Worthy addition to the ‘Escape the House’ genre. Game is lovingly crafted by a small development team with pleasing art and sound effects. Environments focus on a Victorian style house, with a past. The game is divided into separate rooms, each with stand alone puzzles to solve in order to exit to the next. There is no backtracking.

There is a high level back-story that is told through notes found throughout the house. You stumble upon several corpses but, for the most part, there are few horror elements.

Redd’s Runaway

This is a tale about pain, suffering, and vengeance; about hope, compassion, and mercy.

Inspired by the Red Ridding Hood’s tale, Redd’s Runaway is a run and gun action game, combining a frenetic playstyle with an aesthetic reminiscent of the traditions of Halloween and the Day of the Dead, in a short experience aiming for a great replayability.

  • A run and gun 2D game, inspired by classics like Megaman X, The Adventures of Batman and Robin (Mega Drive) and Ghost n' Goblins.

  • Get inmersed into a world infused with the Halloween and the Day of the Dead mythos, where ghosts, monsters and demons appear at every step.

  • 6 worlds, each one full of enemies and a level boss.

  • Obtain new weapons and switch between your arsenal in real time, as you develop your own strategies to surpass this nightmare.

  • Different game modes, like Arcade, Endless, and Boss Rush.

  • Discover a story about revenge, when the sorceress Redd must stop an Underworld invasion in Brock City.

Redd was an orphan adopted by a master sorceress when she was just a baby. She has learned a few spells specialized in offensive tactics, to protect other people from supernatural menaces. After joining the Legion of Sorcerers in her adulthood and starting her training, tragedy struck her life when an unknown attacker killed her mother. With a scar as a reminder of the event, Redd suffered a deep trauma, which left her confused and depressed, pushing away her best friends and teammates.

When Brock City is under invasion, she will use everything she learned to fight along the Legion and defend the innocent, learning new spells in her way to stop this nightmare. But this event may put her abilities and strength at test until its last consequences: moreso, her true believings.

Join Redd’s journey to stop this supernatural invasion and the mind behind this nightmare.
