So I beat the game I’m not sure if the ending is supposed to be just a black screen, but that was kind of lame. The first blood achievement doesn’t seem to work nor does the beat the game achievement. I did get a cool “Kind” of ending when she killed me with 5 photos overall I think if everything worked better it’d be a really good game, but with how it is now it was still fun and it scared the heck out of me before I realized escaping her is a bit easy. Waiting for certain things to spawn and running to them in time can be a bit arduous though. Games a wee bit too long and RNG with the spawnings to keep beating the game only for it to glitch in the end with the black screen if that’s not supposed to happen. I had fun though so I’ll recommend.

To the developer: Too short. I was expecting to find the bodies of the parents.. or that it was a fake ending. The sigil pointing towards the exit door seems to indicate it was a trap and fake out AS DOES THE FACT THE MONSTER STILL ROAMS AROUND IN THE HALLWAYS AFTER THE RITUAL IS DONE THAT BANISHES HIM. Both of those led me to thinking there was going to be a trick ending. But no. Just a bland.. “the end”.

It’s worth playing and fun. But dude. I beat it in 3.5 hours. That’s not enough entertainment for a 6.99 game. A good rule of thumb is a dollar an hour.

I really liked this game. it is a pretty impressive level design, graphics looks good, sound design is really good. And for a first game it is really impressive, and i really do hope to see more horror in the future from this developer. Gameplay is pretty simple, you explore the mansion, find some notes, and avoiding a monster while doing so.

Now with that said, I did have a few performance issues here and there when saving and loading in the level, but nothing game breaking and that even might have been fixed since i played. The character do walk a bit slow, and that makes you want to run all the time, but that will make you miss the most of the atmosphere. A few more scares here and there would have been welcome too :)

Hanefield Asylum

Hanefield Asylum

For a solo developed game, this played pretty well. The jump scares weren’t obvious like in a lot of games, and offered a good sense of fear throughout the game. The additional content after you complete the game was great. A lot of action in a small amount of time, and added more depth to the story of Hanesfield Asylum. Definitely a great buy for less than $10.

I actually had some fun playing this - I thought it was a great premise and the spooks did work really well. However the lack of a save game is a major thumbs down. I can cope with the excessive shots enemies need to bring them down and some glitches here and there - but I’m doing a series on this game on my YouTube channel and haven’t finished the game in one go so I’ve had to go back to the start every time I want to play the next section.

Enjoyed the horror theme though, the devs nailed it.

STATIK

STATIK

STATIK is a 4 player online co-op horror game. A group of kids in the 1980’s find an abandoned house with a shelf full of VHS tapes. When each tape is played, the events of the movie start to play out in real life. Will you escape with your lives or become another victim of the static. You can choose your ending by finding the maps secrets or defeating the killer.

Each level has multiple different endings and many easter eggs to find. No playthrough will ever be the same with the killer always making different decisions and items being spawned randomly.

STORY

In the boring town of Belleville, most summer days are spent by the lake swimming or biking around town. One day, you and your friends discover an old abandoned house in the woods. It’s a tall house, furniture and interior untouched like the owners just vanished and left it trapped in time. Inside, the beige wallpaper is decaying and peeling off. When you get to the living room, there is a big tv set on top of a vhs player. Next to the tv you find a shelf containing Vhs tapes with no label or name. You call your friends over to play the tape, thinking nothing of it…

GAMEPLAY

In STATIK, each VHS tape is a different horror movie that plays out in the old house. You will be hiding from the killer while he tries to hunt you down and send you into the static. Find clues on how to send the killer into the static or find clues on how to escape throughout the map. The closer you get to escaping or if you’re brave enough to face the killer, he will get smarter and he will be able to hear you better. Be stealthy and quiet or you will be sent into the STATIK.

  • Co-Op Game

When playing a Co-Op game, stick together to solve the mysteries of the house and help each other by using a medkit to get a player out of the STATIK.

  • Single Player Game

If you’re brave enough to play alone, you cannot get yourself out of the STATIK and have to solve puzzles by yourself. It’s possible but significantly harder.

Waking

Waking

If you already liked Continue?9876543210 or Skrillex Quest, then better odds of liking this.

If you like existentialism but find walking simulators insufficiently stimulating, Waking may be a good fit for you.

Waking is a strange game. It’s what I guess you’d call a modern 3D platformer like Dark Souls or God of War. And in most games like this, you are the main character, i.e. you are Adam Jensen, Kratos of Sparta, or Sonic the Hedgehog, or the descendant of Erdrick/Loto, or whomever, but in Waking the main character is…you, of [your hometown], descendant of [your parents], etc. Also there’s guided meditation, and no, there is nothing on the screen when she tells you to close your eyes, so just do it.

Real player with 37.9 hrs in game

I played Waking for 25 hours and completed around 75% of the game.

Gameplay Overview

Waking is a gamified SELF-REFLECTION EXERCISE, that has 2 big parts: gameplay and meditation. Being the main character of the story, you will fight your way out of a coma by killing mobs and rebuilding memories. You will run, pick-up objects, aim, shoot, and continuously select different spells to fight.

As objectives are completed, a voice asks you to CLOSE YOUR EYES and invites you to travel deeply into YOUR PERSONAL MEMORIES. Waking is not a traditional action-adventure gaming experience. To experience the game as it is meant to be you need to be opened to a self-reflection experience.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this game! There are some bugs but that is to be expected because it is Early Release. The Devs and everyone working on this game are amazing and very responsive. There have been so many changes in just the last few days! Most bugs are fixed within 24 hours of being reported. Such a amazing combination of puzzles and scares! I am absolutely OBSESSED with this game and have not stopped playing since I got it!!!

Silver Chains

Silver Chains

On a dark and dreary night somewhere in the English countryside, Peter loses control of his vehicle, crashes through a fence and hits a tree. He is not hurt, but the car is no longer functional. He can see a huge building off in the distance and proceeds to go see if he can get help there. As he approaches the house there is a shadowy figure in a lit room on the upper floor. Hoping to get some aid in his situation he continues up to the house and heads towards the front door. As he approaches, he is either knocked out or he blacks out. While unconscious, he has a vision of a massive tree in a meadow that suddenly burst into flames, and a child’s voice beckons him to leave quickly. He awakens from the dream and realizes that he is in a room of the house, with no idea how he came to be there. The doors are locked, so he looks for a way out. Finding a torch, he is now able to enter a very dark room; once inside, he discovers a hole in the wall through which he can crawl out. He proceeds with caution, as the house seems abandoned, yet the lights are on in many areas of the house. As he continues looking for anyone who might live there, he comes upon the spectral figure of a girl who knows his name. She gives a warning, “Mother is after us.” Why is mother coming after us? Why did the ghostly girl know his name? A dreadful fear overpowers his senses . . . he must escape from this place!

A relatively unknown Cracked Heads Games debuted in 2019 with Silver Chains (SVC). With supernatural horror being my least favorite genre because of countless tropes; little ghost girls, playful nature and putting souls to rest just to make a point (also present btw). Lately I’ve been finding myself somewhat possessed and playing games I otherwise wouldn’t in a million years. Since I love nothing more than to shove my preconceived notions in me own mug, I convened with the spirits and-
