It’s alright for the price it’s easy to 100% and get all the achievements on the first stage I will say the zombies spooped me a few times while misjudging how far they were/lighting my lantern. The game is incredibly repetitive though and my crippled mans decided to bring a lantern to what should have been a flash light fight. I’m not even sure how he’s holding the lantern with both hands and wheeling the wheel chair at break neck speeds breaking zombie legs like Allen Iverson wheel chair edition. I would have liked the game a whole lot more if the final level gave my dude a weapon of some sort i.e. mobilized rocket wheel chair and I got to fight a boss, but I digress it’s aiight.

Sudden Darkness is another GameMaker Studio asset flip from serial copy+paste infringers, GreatHopeStudio. All these guys do is rip off game templates and projects from the Yoyogames/GameMaker Studio store, change the name and a few cosmetic details, and try to scam people into paying for someone else’s work on Steam. They have run asset flip scams dozens of times, and this is no exception. It’s nothing but a cash grab.

This time they’ve ripped off a basic template for a 2D retro pixel top down stealth/action game where you must avoid monsters and keep a lantern lit so you can see. Asset flips and other “Fake games” (as Valve calls them) are harmful to the industry, because they pollute the marketplace and reduce the visibility and exposure needed by genuine indie developers.

Book of Demons

Book of Demons

This game is a gem. I’d like to highly recommend it to any player who enjoys a mix of action, planning, and collecting.

What could make you love this game?

First of all, the art style. It catches the whole idea of it being a “book”. Well designed pop-up book graphics, both in the world, the character sheet and inventory (your card deck), as well as in the menus. And if you are a fan of Diablo I & II, you will notice that Thing Trunk got one important part – that made those titles stand out – just right: the lighting. Be it torches illuminating that tiny space just outside your radius of view, be it the ominous glow of a not-so-distant boss… it does a great deal to help you “feel” the dungeon. And of course: it pretty.

Overview

Book of Demons is a hack & slash which pays homage to Diablo with a few twists - it is set in a paper-cut universe like in a pop-up book, and everything you can equip, use, do comes in the form of cards that you assemble into your loadout to conquer the said Paperverse. You start out with 3 card slots out of the maximum of 10 available. Card slots are unlocked using gold and cost incrementally more. As of the build I played (0.75.11062+), only the Warrior class is available. The other 2 classes - Mage and Rogue will be released at a later date according to the roadmap but apart from this the game is pretty complete for an Early Access game. The total of 32 cards in the Warrior’s arsenal are divided into Artifacts (equipment - e.g. weapons, armor, trinkets), Items (e.g. potions, bombs, town portal scroll) and Spells (e.g. Mighty Blow, Charge, Blade Storm). All Artifacts have a mana cost which effectively reduces your mana pool available for using Spells (Items have no mana cost). Leveling up allows you to increase your health or mana, which translates to taking more hits / casting more spells. You do not actually grow stronger by levelling up. Instead you increase in strength by discovering new cards or upgrading your existing cards using gold and runes you find.

It’s free, give it a shot! However, there are so many alternatives in this genre that are well established titles and also free or next to free that I would give Divilixa a lot longer in development before committing serious time to it.

Some feedback:

  • Make it so that the player can just hold the left mouse button down to attack instead of clicking over and over

  • Take a little time to edit the models so that there isn’t a white background to the player character and enemies (it looks like everything was drawn on Post-It notes, scanned, and uploaded into the game)

The potential of this game is incredibly strong. The art style, world and characters are making me eager to see more from this game. There’s a solid gameplay loop that’ll keep you experimenting with different builds throughout different playthroughs. Very good stuff!

Obviously, there’s a lot to improve and balance. Combat isn’t as in depth as I feel it could be. Ruins, while fun to progress through, are quite basic in level design and detail, and the game can be finished in under an hour if you know what you’re doing and/or lucky enough from the RNG loot.

Bias: I’ve playtested this game.

While my “hrs on record” do not reflect it, I’ve spent hours and hours playtesting this game - breaking it, finding bugs, dying over and over and over… and I love this game. The art, music, atmosphere, and humor all work together in creating this wonderful game world filled with intriguing NPCs and clever enemies. I am not particularly good at this type of game, but I enjoy the hell out of Ruine in spite of that. I highly recommend checking it out.

Edited to Add: The dev continues to update this game with new content - enemies, areas, treasures, equipment… Ruine just gets better and better.

What can I say, I love the game, despite it’s early access flaws.

It’s worth more than the asking price already, so buy it.

A solid solo PVE experience but it really shines in multiplayer.

Combat is smooth, visceral and satisfying, the build options and talent trees are already quite varied and are going to get even more interesting as skills get added and level caps get raised and more points are available to allocate.

The game runs pretty smoothly, even on lower spec machines. (obviously not as pretty but the core gameplay is spot on and it still looks decent)

When I first saw this game, I didn’t expect much from it. After reading the good reviews and looking up on Youtube for videos I was surprised to find a very short selection. I decided it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try, it’s only 10$ anyways. Launching the game, I noticed the character selection being pretty limited to only a few options and assumed the game wasn’t going to catch my attention for long, but thankfully when I started playing, I couldn’t stop. This game has been such a fun and exciting addition to my time and I loved every hour of it and I cannot wait to see it grow. I can’t seem to explain it but there’s just something about this game that brings nostalgia and a fresh breath of air to me.

The Lightbringers

The Lightbringers

I am sure that if you look this game up in an dictionary it is a synonym for boring.

Just a few moments ago I left because of the DUNGEON. It is a 4 part Dungeon. Each part is split also in 4 parts till at the end you must fight the boss.

Now, many games have those dungeons. But let me tell you: a) there is no map. Each part is one hose with endless death ends. You’ll fight the same bunch of enemies and gain next to nothing (1 level up…around 40+ fights). Most chests have the same content.

The only good part is that mana potions are cheap.

The Opposite of PoE!

Playing Path of Exile since 8/2011, it slowly derailed for me from hack and slash to build (or better copy) , buy , and now study bossfight phases and anounced abilities.

If you want to go back to the roots and frag some stuff 2 sec. after you logged in and dont want to plan heists or syndicates or 10 other timewasters - this may be your game for the next hours.

pro:

  • copied the right stuff from 20 other games for a unique feel

  • nice Itemsystem ( merge the stats of 2 items and upgrade items 40x 5% in Power)

This game is an ode to the original ARPG’s like the original Diablo. It’s a ton of fun and I’ve blown almost 10 hours into it already and seems like I’ve been playing for a couple hours tops. The drops are fun and even has lower level legendary and set items to loot and at just a bit over $10.00 is well worth the price. So far at early leveling I have one large tower like dungeon with

many different levels to explore and quests given in town with merchants and NPC. It’s a fun

game and I see a lot of mixed reviews. I think considering the price and the fun it’s well worth $10+
