Z. Year One

Short version:

Besides the initial (at times very frustrating) hour or so, I have found this game extremely fun to play. It’s a decent challenge, looks incredible and the developers are very responsive and diligent at tackling bugs. It is a gem of a game that has production values and mechanics on par with the elite digital card games out there, but which will cost you a fraction of the price to remain forever competitive.

Pros:

  • Looks great!

  • Unique location mechanics, card abilities and strategies versus other digital card games.

Great card game, lots of promise for the future. Good concept, good photo artwork, fun to play even when you lose. Still a bit of work to do, could benefit from a lot more locations and location specific event cards but looking forward to seeing how it turns out when it’s finished.

Will kill Zombies and get disapproving looks from partner for having an all female deck again…..

(Addition) After a few more updates since first posting this review you can tell how committed the team are to producing a decent game. Hats off to them for all the hard work. The decision to put a pricetag on the game and giving booster packs to unlock cards through gameplay is a much better idea than a f2p version, the game is worth it.

Zombie Strike

honestly i have only played 3hrs and that was from first login. i will be continuing as i have no reasons yet not to. consequently, this review is subject to change

the incredibly naive will quote this as a pay-to-win game, which is utter nonsense. only game i ever played (in 40 years of gaming) that falls into THAT category is zynga’s poker game which you could win actual money playing…….. as long as you were an american living in america. you can pay but you don’t win anything.

this game does NOT target your wallet……..that’s just cheap. no, this game is SO overly priced it targets your savings account :D

Andor - Wrecking Dawn

Andor - Wrecking Dawn

Although Andor is not so competitive comparing to other hot card collection games, it is still a choice to take an easy free game in Andor. The true game can be start in hours after you know its rule by some detail introductions, and a good news is that basic cards (white and blue) is easy to get, as you can get tons of packs in many ways. I see this game still has problems, but they are willing to fix it if you report.

For playing several card games like Hearthstone, Faeria, ESL, etc. I must say that I enjoy my experience in Andor so far.

The game is very promising …

The graphics and the music are good. The gameplay works well and the system is original on some points like having to discard cards to get mana unlike the majority of games of the genre where it increases automatically every turn. The system of rows and lines of attack as well as that of spells and counterattacks are also aspects of the game that are new and enjoyable. Deck and strategy possibilities are many and varied. The single player campaign is quite long and already offers many challenges.

Zombie Solitaire 2 Chapter 1

Zombie Solitaire 2 Chapter 1

I bought all three chapters of ZS bundled on a whim, and so far I’m glad I did. Just finished Ch. 1 and had a good time playing it. I will say that there are a few levels where cards get stuck on the board and cannot be removed unless using the rifle to shoot them off. At other times a card will get stuck and not come off until a later play. This seemed to happen more often in the higher levels. I liked the power ups and found I used the Joker and the rifle more than anything. It was like Christmas when those would come hidden under cards.

Match 3 levels are not balanced at all, last match 3 level is almost impossible to pass with 3 stars due lack of moves vs zombie’s requirements. Developer promised to fix this issue 4 years ago, with sweety words while he needed attract players to buy chapter 2 and 3, but then he just abandoned all games leaving this “bugs” unsolved. This is very immature and mean step from his side and that’s why he is receiving negative review from me. Game was kinda cute and I liked it, but this unbalance annoyed me whole the time I spent in match 3 levels. Hopefully next chapters will be better balanced… 😡

Book of Demons

Book of Demons

This game is a gem. I’d like to highly recommend it to any player who enjoys a mix of action, planning, and collecting.

What could make you love this game?

First of all, the art style. It catches the whole idea of it being a “book”. Well designed pop-up book graphics, both in the world, the character sheet and inventory (your card deck), as well as in the menus. And if you are a fan of Diablo I & II, you will notice that Thing Trunk got one important part – that made those titles stand out – just right: the lighting. Be it torches illuminating that tiny space just outside your radius of view, be it the ominous glow of a not-so-distant boss… it does a great deal to help you “feel” the dungeon. And of course: it pretty.

Overview

Book of Demons is a hack & slash which pays homage to Diablo with a few twists - it is set in a paper-cut universe like in a pop-up book, and everything you can equip, use, do comes in the form of cards that you assemble into your loadout to conquer the said Paperverse. You start out with 3 card slots out of the maximum of 10 available. Card slots are unlocked using gold and cost incrementally more. As of the build I played (0.75.11062+), only the Warrior class is available. The other 2 classes - Mage and Rogue will be released at a later date according to the roadmap but apart from this the game is pretty complete for an Early Access game. The total of 32 cards in the Warrior’s arsenal are divided into Artifacts (equipment - e.g. weapons, armor, trinkets), Items (e.g. potions, bombs, town portal scroll) and Spells (e.g. Mighty Blow, Charge, Blade Storm). All Artifacts have a mana cost which effectively reduces your mana pool available for using Spells (Items have no mana cost). Leveling up allows you to increase your health or mana, which translates to taking more hits / casting more spells. You do not actually grow stronger by levelling up. Instead you increase in strength by discovering new cards or upgrading your existing cards using gold and runes you find.

Though this game still has bugs, especially for Windows machines, it is a fairly interesting game that is sometimes a bit confusing to suss out what is going on. It’s fairly good.

More interesting reviews on Fenol Baron Approves Curator Page

Nice little puzzle game that combines tower defense gameplay, Tim Burton’s humorous grotesque style and easy-to-use game mechanics. With the help of his insects and animals, the boy Victor will have to uncover the secrets of the dark nooks and crannies of his house, entering into a confrontation with annoying pests. You can use from 1 to 3 types of units, depending on the type of mission to be completed and the conditions for its implementation. Each species has its own peculiarity, there are powerful punching bumblebees, and small mosquitoes, prickly hedgehogs to protect confined spaces and other specimens. The set of tactics, albeit not huge, is quite sufficient for a fun game, and various types of equipment allow you to create interesting options for defense and attack. I did not like the fact that some missions had to be completed exclusively in the way the developers intended (most often this concerned missions with one single ward). And the most unpleasant thing was the moment when a prerequisite for starting a mission was the presence in my squad of a certain unit, which can only be bought in a junk shop. It is very expensive and if there is no money for it (and I did not have it), then the only option was to start a boring grind of currency in previous missions, and in the local endless mode. This is a strange idea, to be honest. In all other respects, this is such a solid good puzzle, which is very pleasant to play in the evening, quite sincere and dynamic.

Simple Roguelike with inventory management as main focus. Similar to Dungelot. Great to pick up and play. Very easy (I’m casual player).

I could possibly unlock two additional characters (with different environments?). Problem is, I don’t find a way to save my progress.

Still, very nice prologue.
