It’s awful, just awful.

The UI looks like it’s made for windows XP and it looks so bad that It’s hard to understand it.

And since that’s a card games simulator and should be able to make/import card games in there, It does every thing that has nothing with card games. making cards and decks is kinda complicated. AND THE WORST PART IS THAT I CAN’T IMPORT ALL OF MY CARD IMAGES AT THE SAME TIME I MUST UPLOAD IT AND RENAME IT ONE BY ONE. In that case, to upload my game that has 450 CARDS I WOULD TAKE HOURS JUST TO IMPORT IT TO THE GAME WHILE OTHER WEBSITES TAKES COUPLE OF SECONDS.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist

Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist

TLDR:

Objectively speaking, if you want to play Yugioh in 2020 (or beyond) don’t buy this game since it is the now “outdated” version. You probably want the version called Yugioh Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution . That version is updated to the latest Master Rule 5 where you can Link Summon and also you are no longer limited to summoning from the extra deck to only the monster zones that are pointed to by Link Monsters.

Here I am again, for one more review!

A past few weeks ago some people did asked me to post my review about this

game that it is one of my favorites (not to say the most) since I have been

playing it (the TCG format) profissionaly back to 2008-2009 and 2011-2015.

Yu-gi-oh, as far as I remember have always been an inspiration in my life:

teamwork, friendship, hope, courage, determination, respect, honor… some

of the aspects I’ve learned from this franchise since 1998 that influenced

me to pursue my dreams and realize what I most want. I even decided,

Ratropolis

Ratropolis

Call me a dues-paying member of ‘The Cult of the New’ when it comes to genre mash-ups like this. I can’t get enough of them. When Slay the Spire came out and combined roguelites and deck-builders I was hooked for 100+ hours and even back in my pre-COVID table-top gathering days, deckbuilders (Dominion/Thunderstone) were my favorite. The combination of control and RNG is so delicious and it’s exciting to see all of the ways developers are using this in either quality design or just experimenting with a gimmick.

A very tentative recommendation. In terms of my play-time, I’ve completed most content (including wave 120), so I feel I’ve enough experience with the game to give a moderately informed review.

In a nutshell, this game is a very polished game that reminds me of my days playing free games in the heyday of flash. Take a Newgrounds defense game and add a massive layer of professionalism and that’s this game. You play a defense game where your units, economy, and development are linked to a deck built throughout a session. It is hard. You will lose a lot. But there will be an “ah-hah!” moment where you understand what the game wants from you and suddenly it will be rare to lose.

The negative comments on this game talk about how the balance is very unfavorable to the player and in order to win, you have to be very lucky. These complaints are valid. But they leave out an important piece of context: This game is being very actively worked on!

The developer is constantly tweaking with the game balance. If you look over patch notes, you’ll see tons of changes to how individual items behave, new items being added, and entire new game systems being included. Over the months, these changes have been very favorable to the player. It used to be that you’d have to play many rounds before you had one where winning was even a possibility, but now most games are winnable as long as you have a decent strategy in mind.

I LOVE the concept and the game is good but it could be better. Which is about right for an early access game.

The biggest issue is replayability. For a ‘rougelike’ that is a big deal and this game has limited replayability. Every run begins to feel pretty samey after you’ve pulled off a handful of different synergies. So far the only efforts made to address this have been adding more symbols and a handful of items. While this adds replayability it is a limited option. Every new symbol and item added makes it harder to find things that go together which lowers the fun and viability of the game. Having 100 new synergies doesn’t make the game more replayable if you can never actually get the pieces together to do any of them.

Player training:

Do you want an all-rounder to sweep the audience, or a secret weapon to defeat the enemy? Each player is unique and has his own hero preferences and characteristics. Can you help them break through the bottleneck and win the championship and become the most dazzling superstar on the field?

Hero pool training:

Is it to train the assassin to perfection, or is it obsessed with the master to control the thunder and lightning? The differences in skills and occupations have created many heroes. Every hero has his own specialties, and a player should also have his own specialties. The stadium is not a particular place, strength here is the last word. It is definitely a big challenge to configure a perfect hero pool for the players!

Version change:

There is no strongest hero, only the strongest version!

In this version, the experience value of the creeps has increased so that the heroes can upgrade quickly. This is the paradise of the mages. Use your skills to bomb the arena!

In that version, the wild economy has greatly increased, and the killers hidden in the jungle can finally fight happily! If you want to strategize, you must first understand the version. The person who wins in the end is the first in the version!

Tactical options:

Is it centering around the core heroes, waiting for the level of equipment to be enough to save the world and turn the tide? Or is it the Trident, with overflow attacks that make the enemy defeated from the start of the game? Coach, they are waiting for you, give instructions!

Decision card:

Every decision on the field is crucial. Are you ready to teach your opponent a lesson with the decision-making card in your hand, telling him that in this e-sports arena, it is useless to talk on paper! Only with rich experience and reasonable decision-making can we fight steadily and win the game!

League Cup:

From the chirping chicks to the soaring eagles, from the obscure City Cup to the world-famous Serie A, this road can be described as thousands of horses crossing the single-plank bridge. Not only that, in this era of e-sports, all kinds of cups are also full of talents. The players you hope to get sometimes stand on the opposite side of you, and those superb teams also look at you. Want to be famous all over the world? Let’s start now!

Evolution Board Game

Evolution Board Game

UPDATE I no longer work for Northstar. This review should be considered to be for the first year of the game.

So up front… I worked on this game. I want to be super clear about that. (In case you can’t tell by me having more hours logged in it than it’s been out in the wild.

So why review. Well obviously I want the game I worked on to do well… but there is more than that.

For those who don’t know, Evolution was a table top board game first and has been for years. It was one of my earliest modern board gaming experiences and I still love to break it out and play it. The constant evolution of strategies and plays with the traits that can be played makes the game very replayable.

I’m definitely addicted to this one. Good game balance, I never feel like any build is just too powerful. Challenging AI. Cute/Beautiful art. Fun facts. Satisfying sound effects; glad I can turn the music off without turning them off (though the music is good to).

I assume you could unlock brutal mode right away but playing through the campaign on both difficulties has been both an enjoyable difficulty progression and given me plenty of content to consume. Especially with the fun of trying to unlock sketches. But Darwin gets super annoying on the second go through.

Prismata

Prismata

The easiest way to describe Prismata is to call it a RTS-themed (think Starcraft) chess. Chess comparison comes from the fact it has 0 RNG of any kind and no hidden info so the game is deterministic i.e. one of the players has a guaranteed win based on the starting positions. But just like Chess, Prismata is incredibly complex where solving it is impossible.

Players start with 6 or 7 Drones that harvest gold (2nd player starts with 1 extra drone to compensate), gold buys you technology structures that produce blue/red/green resources (not official names, but that’s the accepted naming convention in the community). Subsequently gold and tech resources buy attackers/defenders and your goal is to kill opponent’s units while protecting your fragile drones and attackers. Sounds simple at its core.

EDIT: I almost don’t believe it. Within two days the devs released an update that addressed several of these issues. That’s just awesome. You hardly see that happen for any game these days.

Thumbs up for quality of life updates, and a great strategy game. There’s still room for improvement with drone defaulting to block and such, oh well. Game is good though.

Outdated:

I really want to love Prismata. At a glance, this could be the first truly free to play strategy “card” game without any of the pay to win nonsense, and a potentially fantastic game at that. But for a game that tries so hard to be different than all the others in its genre, why are there so many familiar disappointments?
