Cat President ~A More Purrfect Union~

Cat President ~A More Purrfect Union~

It’s a really cute parody of American elections. But this game will be intersting even for those who are absolutely not into politics. I was so excited to play it being a great cat lover. We can hear those cats purring in the game which is so relaxing and enjoyable! Unfortunately I can’t say the same about barking sounds but even they helped to create a general nice atmosphere of the world ruled by cute animals because people became too corrupted. I find it so adorable that the photos of real cats are used. DJ Nibbles looks especially cute for me! Plus in every route there’re amazing cat pictures on the walls. It was a real pleasure for my eyes to play through this novel!

Tries to be Catoful Boyfriend, but doesn’t quite get there. A big part of why Hatoful Boyfriend works so well is that it starts with a one-note joke, but gradually reveals a complex story structure and lore, ending with a (probably well-spoiled by now) plot twist and genre shift. Cat President starts with a one-note joke and never strays far from it, so if you don’t find the idea of talking cat politicians inherently funny, it’ll get old really fast.

It’s a visual novel with no gameplay, and the choice structure is very simple (pick a cat, make some choices along a linear plot and have a sound effect tell you if you chose correctly, then reach one of three endings based on how many correct choices you made). Your choices basically don’t affect anything but the ending, so replaying involves skipping a lot of text, and the correct choice indicator should have been optional, because although it takes some of the frustration out of finding the good endings, it takes some of the fun out of it, too.

Paper Shakespeare: To Date or Not To Date? 2

Paper Shakespeare: To Date or Not To Date? 2

King Alexander XI is dead, and without heir.

Your parents want you to be that heir. Luckily for you, there’s totally an ancient tradition for electing a new ruler in times like these: simply lock eight children of royal blood (or the closest thing) in Castle Elsinore, complete with the ghosts of past rulers, and let them manipulate the living heck out of each other and the local population! Two shall rise above the rest: King and Queen (or Queen/Queen, King/King, King/Nobody, Queen/Nobody)! Everyone else that is still alive gets to go home! It’s a win-win for everyone (except those that died)!

Features

  • Interact with eight different potential royal candidates! Sabotage or help them!

  • Decide what skills you want to learn as a potential ruler!

  • Part strategy, part dating sim, all royal bloodbath! This is more a dating sim than an election sim, though.

  • A variety of paths to go down, depending on what you do in the game! Who do you romance? Who do you backstab? Who do you romance and then backstab?

  • Invading armies? Political debates? It’s all in here!

  • Direct continuation of the story started in Paper Shakespeare: To Date Or Not To Date?, but completely separate from Furry Shakespeare and Dinosaur Shakespeare! Telling you why would be spoilers. Also, just a perfectly good stand-alone story!

Love with Kadyrov

Love with Kadyrov

Love with Kadyrov is one of my favourite steam games. My friend bought it for me and I can’t be happier that she did. This game has brought so many tears to my eyes at the beautiful graphics and story telling. The story ends so abruptly making me hope for a part two to be released. I have fully completed the game, which I regret so much because my time with Kadyrov on our daily dates now no longer feels new and exciting. Kadyrov fills the void in my heart that could be filled with a much less important thing like a significant other. If I had the chance to meet Kadyrov in real like I would take it in a heartbeat if I could play the ancient highlander game of match three.

The way Kadyrov in real life is so against gay people, he is definitely a massive closet dweller and this game is 100% irrefutable proof that he is. The game is pretty good fun as well, so I recommend it.

Hate Plus

Hate Plus

Hate Plus is a different kind of game, and that’s not a bad thing if you are looking for something new to try. Instead of being a puzzle, adventure, or action title, it is literally an interactive novel. The only “puzzle,” if you will, is attempting to piece together what happened to space vessle Mugunghwa before the events of the previous game, Analogue: A Hate Story. Because there are some concepts originally introduced in that game, it’s helpful to have played it before diving into Hate Plus, but it’s not essential.

Oh, *Hyun-ae, let’s solve mysteries together forever~

Hate Plus is a fantastic… something between a visual novel and a kinetic novel. Both this game and it’s predecessor, Analogue, aren’t a tangled spiderweb mess of routes, choices, decisions, Good and Bad Ends. There aren’t many branching decision points in these games (Hate Plus doesn’t even really have any), which kind of removes a lot of their “gaminess.” That’s okay with me; the visual/kinetic novel genre exists somewhere in the digital melting pot between traditional literature, comic books and video games. That’s pretty great, in my opinion.

Imperial Grace

Imperial Grace

Imperial Grace is a visual novel / otome game, focusing on politics and romance in an imaginary medieval world. You play as the new Empress of Calidya, who must rule her country despite the hardships and precariousness of her position. During your reign, you will face many difficult choices, which can dramatically change the future of Calidya as well as your own destiny. You may even find love in difficult times, but be careful: love can equally help you overcome the perils you face and get in the way of your duty..

Imperial Grace has an optional management feature, if you wish to spice up the game and face ever more strategic and thornier choices.

  • A customisable strong-willed, competent, and ambitious MC

  • 3 enticing love interests and a colourful cast of characters

  • A lot of meaningful choices shaping the story and epilogues

  • Beautiful graphics and music

  • Accessibility feature (for dyslexic and colourblind people)

  • Optional strategic resource management features

Royal Alchemist

Royal Alchemist

Tl;dr: I absolutely love every aspect of this game and I think every fan of visual novels/dating sims would enjoy it as well.

World building and writing.

World building might be one of the strongest points of this game. Yes, this is a generic medieval fantasy setting, however, in my opinion, this works to it’s benefit. With how common medieval fantasy is, the setting doesn’t prompt any immediate or obvious references, allowing its original little twists to shine. More importantly, the world feels alive and consistent being a great background to the main plot points and characters. The writing style itself complements the overall ambiance in a couple of ways. It is not overly fancy or complicated by any means but it can definitely feel fancy at times by throwing in some more sophisticated terms for a bit of flavor, helping you feel more immersed in the royal court setting (or at least that’s how it felt to me, a non-native english speaker, so take it for what it’s worth, it might be that my english is simply worse than I give it credit for). The first person narrative also helps with immersion, as the protagonist is not some starry-eyed self insert who has to learn everything with the player, but an expert in their own field and no stranger to the history and society of their world. This provides the player with a more interesting perspective and no awkward lore dumps.

Finally managed to reach all romance ending for all 3 princes. I have to say the game was well worth it. I’ll probably go back and get the friendship endings (+ opposite gender variation CGs).

• Now, I was more interested in the story than romance side of things, so the romance being kind of secondary I personally didn’t mind. In fact, games which rush romance too quickly bothers me a lot… I find the slow-burn type romance more realistic.

• Regarding the plot, it’s extremely well-written and full of twists. For that matter, some of the dialogue was hard even for me and I’m a native speaker!

Gold Diggers

Gold Diggers

The term “Gold Diggers” has many meanings. It’s up to you how you want to interpret it. In the game, you can earn your prestige, or you can get involved with a rich person to wallow in luxury. Remember that not all gold that shines and you can search for your ‘gold’ inside yourself to find the most valuable paths of life.

The main aim of the game is to show the life in the 21st century – fast, oriented on consumption and with low awareness. The idea of the creators of the game is to encourage player reflection and awaken everyone who still dreams their programmed dream.\

[YOU]

You can choose between a *woman or a man. You start your adventure as a handy man who owns a decaying car made in 1994 and has only paid the last rent at the Motel.

You decide your fate and your development. You can become a personal trainer or a lecturer at the university, or you can practice yoga and grow your business.

The way you behave, how you look and what you do affect your Mucho Points and your Level of Enlightenment, which in turn determine your relationships and friendships.

Thought provoking, deep and twizted. Absolutely stunning graphics, audio and character development so much so that I actually was physically transported into the fucked up world of the minds of the Wainstop gang. This work, will replace the Bible in our churches. Thank you.

It’s not very often something comes along that is this unique. It has such a strong stylistic character that you feel transported to another world with the original artwork and music, not to mention the mind bending story. The time I spent in this world was totally bizarre in the best possible way. Nothing else like it.

Gameplay / Story

You start the game as a simple vagabond who is still so unknown in the world and has not yet made its way into the history books. The story takes place in a fictional medieval world, which is haunted by a spreading curse and has already cost many their lives. At some point you can build your own cities and buildings in them, which produce raw materials for you that you can trade with other cities and their rulers. they try to conquer your city and need your warfare to defend them. Of course, you can also use your diplomatic skills and negotiate with them. Opponents will try to sneak into your community and cause you problems. The more relationships you have with other characters, the more opportunities you have to put things right again. There is also equipment for you to make yourself stronger, such as special upgrades for your armor or clothing itself. Many different types of weapons have made it into the game, which fit into the era. After every battle won should not be unrewarded, of course, and unique spoils of war await you. A highlight is that you can also start a family and what is special about it is that when your main trafficker dies, the parents' abilities are passed on to your children. You are free to decide what your next step is and where you will go to achieve your goals.
