Dimmi quando Kondo Kondo

The one route I was able to get was with Kondo, it was great, but I haven’t been able to get any other different routes. I like the idea that you can date Kondo, and I really like the voice actor. I also was able to get Yamazaki’s route, at least one, which I liked also. For me personally, I don’t like the way Harada looks and Heisuke (looks like a girl). I do like the storyline and the comic scenes and, of course, the voice actors are wonderful. I am looking forward to a guide in English, so I can continue playing this game. I bought this game when it was on sale for $30, I just could not wait. Maybe $25 would have been a better price, but if you like Shinsengumi, Edo Blossom, etc. I do recommend this game.

I can sum up this game in one word: disappointing. While the voice acting and artwork are acceptable, it’s more the plot that’s the problem. For an otome game, I expected a certain level of romance, and the romance is basically non-existence in this game. After finishing up three routes in the game, I find myself bored and not caring about the characters. If you want to play a romance story about the Shinsengumi, I suggest playing Hakuouki.

The Spanish Privateer

The Spanish Privateer

Story

Set in early 17th century, just before the Pirate Golden Age, The Spanish Privateer places you in the shoes of Isabel Carlota de Castilla (but you can just call her Carlota). Carlota is an 18-year-old runaway escaping a marriage forced upon her by her parents. Not able to afford passage on a ship, Carlota offers to work for her voyage aboard Captain Rico’s ship, La Aguja. Captain Rico is a privateer, a pirate with a letter of marque allowing him to attack and capture the enemies of Spain. Carlota soon falls in love with the sea, and challenges herself to become a valuable member of the ship.

Amidst sword fights, balls, and drunken nights at the tavern, Carlota learns more about her fellow crew members and the world outside Spain. Visits to the archipelago of Azores, cities in the Caribbean and Veracruz, New Spain, teach Carlota about the effects of colonization and make her question her contribution and power aboard the Spanish ship.

No matter which route you travel down, Carlota must overcome her male crew members' prejudices, earning their respect with her hard work, determination, and intelligence.

Love Interests

Ambition: A Minuet in Power

Ambition: A Minuet in Power

I almost fainted when I saw Ambition’s premise. A choose-your-own adventure? With political intrigue and love interests?! Taking place in the French Revolution!? It seemed perfect for me - and, oh, it was!

You play as Yvette Decaux, a woman who travels to Paris on the eve of the French Revolution to rendezvous with her fiance, a baron named Armand. But oh no! He’s missing! You have the option to try and find him, and/or abandon him for one or more of the five other love interests. Each of those love interests are part of a faction - the Crown, the Church, the Military, the Bourgeoisie, and the Revolution. To build your power, you must go to parties thrown by these factions to meet your romance options, collect gossip, and participate in a randomized and vast array of entertaining minor intrigues. The gossip you get can be sold for money (used to buy dresses, pay rent, bribe the authorities, and purchase coffee - the usual!) or bend the factions to your will. You can increase or decrease their power, or nudge the middle factions towards the Crown or Revolution.

First and foremost: this game gets my recommendation. Its content is deep, compelling, and interesting. Despite having limited hours to do so, I wanted to keep playing. The historical perspective seems incredibly well researched and founded (though I admit I am not a good source to weigh in on historical legitimacy), the characters were diverse, and the story was compelling.

That being said, I found numerous issues. The most frustrating being that many of the randomly generated interactions kept appearing “out of order” in such a way that the story felt massively interrupted and disjointed. I’m honestly not sure if it’s some strange series of choices I made to cause this, but I kept accidentally running into one of the main characters in the game in side missions at parties in which she would act as if we had some very contemptuous history, when in reality, I had never even seen her before let alone (to my knowledge) upset her before. As I found from playing the entire game, I believe she was destined to be an adversary, but I was SO confused when I was playing. There were several other instances in which I found that interactions I had already had with characters didn’t jive with interactions I went on to have with them subsequently, and honestly, this is my biggest issue with the game.

Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms

Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms

Being the second installation of the Hakuouki story (first of course being on the psp, with several ported editions to other systems - this is the second half of the afformentioned psp game that was cut in half when revisited) - the first being Kyoto Winds. This second half finds us where we left off from there. That being said, if you haven’t read/played/watched the beginning story, Kyoto Winds, I suggest doing that first. However, you wont have a hard time if you start with this game but it would be best if you are wanting to understand the back story of the Shensengumi and the Water of Life. That being said, this V/N has actual romance in it (surprise!) as the last one did not have much or much to the illusion to. This is a V/N that all people can enjoy as it is enriched with story and the characters individually fit into their own piece of the puzzle and stays very close to history as the writer very much intended it to. I am saying this because I feel like my husband who isn’t a V/N or romance kinda guy, could even get into if he felt like doing a lot of reading. :0)

I was lucky and got a beta-key for this VN and I was so happy about it that I literally cried. This otome is just perfect, at least in my opinion.

After I’ve listed the improvements in comparison to other versions in my first review, I will only rate the story and gameplay this time, or rather how I feel about the whole game.

Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds

Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds

I’ve been a VN enthusiast for awhile now and this game and its sequel caught my eye in a recent sale. I was thinking, “Hmm, I want some romance, this looks good.” I did indeed get some flashes of romance, though relatively subtle and subdued, in the lengthy and complex story. But I was soon completely caught in the world and the time and the turmoil it was set in. Immediately arrested by the setting and conflicts, though they were in another country centuries ago on the other side of the world, I started researching them on the side as I made my way through the story. I found the real historical bones of it very easy to pick out from the flights of fancy that make it a historical fantasy. To be honest, I’d rather have less apparent romance in a story where the setting, conflicts, all the characters and their relationships with each other are so fleshed out as this one, because it makes the romance more poignant and believable when you do get a glimmer or foreshadowing of it. I hear the second part of the game, Edo Blossoms, has the actual romance parts of the stories, and it feels like it will be so much more rewarding after the work to weave the friendship in Kyoto Winds.

Note: Keep in mind that Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds is only the first half of the game/plot. Kyoto Winds ends where the individual character routes in other Hakuoki versions would usually begin.

I got this game in a bundle before, so I was not as irritated as some people who paid full price.

It has a number of bugs in it - one causes the game to crash. It is pretty short (under 10 minutes), art is okay, the whole thing is kind of something you would have seen on Newgrounds before.

The best part of the game was the business dude conversations which ended up making me laugh.

I don’t recommend buying it, instead just go watch the 5 min let’s play of it.

Panzer Hearts - War Visual Novel

After finishing this game, I felt an overwhelming sense of emotional gratitude to the creators of this wonderful game. In the beginning, it sets you up for a somewhat odd premise but simple love story. As you continue, however, you are not only drawn into the world that has been set up, but you also start to get a sense that something isn’t as it seems. Without spoiling anything, the reveal of what truly is at hand is handled beautifully, and the emotional journey I was taken on brought me to tears.

I was fortunate enough to pick this game up a few months back in an IndieGala bundle and I must say it’s a crying shame that this game is ridiculously under-appreciated here on Steam. For this game to only have 17 reviews at the time I write this review is utterly ridiculous. ..Still, 100% of those 17 purchased game reviews are positive and there’s good reason.

Much like the 1995 movie Braveheart with Mel Gibson, this visual novel deals with love, war, and freedom. It is a story written passionately from the heart, and while being a lower budget visual novel, it is one that shouldn’t be ignored. I enjoyed it very much and it had unexpected plot twists and sad moments that made the tender love scenes all that more memorable.

Last time I reviewed the game was 2 years ago (old review down below) and since then I have grown as a human, or in other words I have played 300 more hours of this game for total of 500+ hours.

Where I once recommended the game, I can now only endorse and praise it. In my previous review I commented upon the various WW2 aspects of the game, but reflecting back on that my review was like a 9gag user reviewing sex positions.

I dont understand how I missed the social critical aspects of this masterpiece. It shows how corrupt and anti proletariat todays governments using clever tactics. The way you play as a young man in a foreign country forced to fulfill his military duty, but instead find yourself in tankgirl filled world, in which no one is willing to explain to you what is going on is a great analogy for how the government is just trying to use and punish us as soon as we make one wrong step. And before you ask, no, I dont just say this because I lost custody over my child for playing this game instead of going to my court appointment.

Aisling and the Tavern of Elves

It’s short, but sweet and well structured. The characters have great banter between them which is really nice. it actually feels like authentic dialogue. Choices feel like they make sense when given too. Being so short, not sure it’s worth full price, but if you see it on sale then definitely worth it.

Cute and fun short story based on a cute but strong human and a very cute elf, also

a crazy witch and a devious Baroness.

Nice art in this as well, which is often the case from this developer.

Worth a read for Yuri loves and romance lovers.
