Furry Shakespeare: To Date Or Not To Date Cat Girls?

Probably one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. I laughed, I wept, I mourned. I will never forget the impact this wonderful game had on my life.

I wondered why this game only had but a single review. I wondered if I would enjoy dating Cat Girls, when I myself prefer Dog Boys. I wondered a lot as I played it, what it was that I was reading? I wondered who I was supposed to be. I wondered if I was really trying to date one of these people, Or was I trying to solve some mystery here, Or just survive some mind twisting Thing…?

I still dont have any answers to any of that, but I do know there are now two reviews for this game. And I know I’ll walk down all its different paths until I figure out just exactly what it is I have read. or come to the end of the last one and realize that there is just me at the end of it all, wondering….

Otaku’s Adventure

Otaku’s Adventure

I thoroughly enjoyed myself playing this game. I loved the multiple girls you could try to date, and I especially loved the multiple endings this game has to offer. It does have a lot of references to Kio’s Adventure, so I found them funny and made the game a bit more enjoyable in my opinion. The art style was kinda simple but cute and I liked the comic book aspect. Some of the minigames was a pain in the butt for me (like trying to do the shooting or alien fighting ones without losing any health was hard). Just like Kio’s Adventure, this game does have a lot of typos, but it does add to the humor of the game. My biggest issue with the game is the lack of a skip button (even a skip for only seen text would have been nice). A lot of my time was spent trying to quickly go through text I’ve seen just to find all the endings. A skip feature for text would have been very, very appreciated (and not just a skip feature for already seen endings…).

Love the plot twist after plot twists, 10/10. English translation were not on point, other than that is perfect.

A skip option would be nice too.

ChronoClock

ChronoClock

ChronoClock is very enjoyable visual novel. In fact, its such treat, i am totaly in love with it.

Its moege in its best form! If you are not looking for anything complicated and just want to have fun, i would be hard pressed to think of another VN with such high entertaiment value!

Character design is higlight of this VN. All the characters are incredibly well written, they are also out of usual stereotypes which makes interacting with them really refreshing. For example Makoto is girl with yakuza background, who has quite oldtimer beliefs and holds honor and chivalry in high regard (also she is totaly crazy into rabbits), then you have Misaki who at first glance is tsundere, but when teased a little she comes out spilles out her real feelings (come on, honest tsundere? you have no idea how fun she is), or Cro who is goddess but due to certain circumstances she becomes human girl and is expiriencing everything “human” for first time.

It’s a very enjoyable and straightforward game where you always know on which girl’s route you are. It took me 36 hours to complete.

Story.

I won’t write any details here but I’ll say it’s mostly slice of life type of story. The game promises you it’s nothing serious but that doesn’t mean you won’t cry. I did. It just means there are no bad ends.

Characters.

You have your typical anime archetypes: tsundere, overly attached sister, shy girl, blonde from overseas, etc. Despite beign clichéd they are not boring by any means, in fact I feel each one of them brings something fresh into this pungent bog of stereotypes. There are 6 girls to court, 4 initially available and 2 unlocked after.

Paper Shakespeare: To Date or Not To Date? 2

Paper Shakespeare: To Date or Not To Date? 2

King Alexander XI is dead, and without heir.

Your parents want you to be that heir. Luckily for you, there’s totally an ancient tradition for electing a new ruler in times like these: simply lock eight children of royal blood (or the closest thing) in Castle Elsinore, complete with the ghosts of past rulers, and let them manipulate the living heck out of each other and the local population! Two shall rise above the rest: King and Queen (or Queen/Queen, King/King, King/Nobody, Queen/Nobody)! Everyone else that is still alive gets to go home! It’s a win-win for everyone (except those that died)!

Features

  • Interact with eight different potential royal candidates! Sabotage or help them!

  • Decide what skills you want to learn as a potential ruler!

  • Part strategy, part dating sim, all royal bloodbath! This is more a dating sim than an election sim, though.

  • A variety of paths to go down, depending on what you do in the game! Who do you romance? Who do you backstab? Who do you romance and then backstab?

  • Invading armies? Political debates? It’s all in here!

  • Direct continuation of the story started in Paper Shakespeare: To Date Or Not To Date?, but completely separate from Furry Shakespeare and Dinosaur Shakespeare! Telling you why would be spoilers. Also, just a perfectly good stand-alone story!

So far I’m having a great time, clever writing, the art is very good, and I’m enjoying the premise. A more substantial review will come later but I wanted to leave a quick endorsement!

Bought this for the dinosaur mod. Worked out so far for me. I wrote a much longer review but it wasn´t sent so I keep it short…

All together:

good

  • Game has really well drawn characters (in my case dinosaur mod)

  • You get to know other characters ask them questions and eventually date them (was dancin´ with my fav. dinosaur a few times)

  • If you are into that dinosaur / creature stuff this is a really good VN for the pictures and the conversations

  • Sound effects and musik are good, and at least at the beginning it feels like someone´s taking you on a hand and helps

Eternia: Pet Whisperer

Eternia: Pet Whisperer

I’m not a particularly big fan of visual novels but the premise of this game most definitely is my thing.

! You get to rescue talking, time-travelling animals that live forever. What’s not to love? Who wouldn’t want to take them all home?

The game is charming and sweet, utterly bonkers and very funny - there’s been so many laugh out loud moments for me throughout the game (especially the reference to the size of ratty nads!).

The artwork is just lovely. A gorgeous watercolour, painterly style. Perfect for the tone of the game. The UI is simple and intuitive. The music is adorable and suits the game so well.

Real player with 5.2 hrs in game

This is a fun, light visual novel about bonding with talking pets, with a small amount of framing narrative and hints about the world in which it’s set (which did subvert my expectations). Each of the pets has a distinct and different (and often quirky) personality, and most of the game is learning about them by spending time with them and thereby earning their trust.

The artwork and music are upbeat and bright, fitting the general tone, and each of the plotlines moves along quickly. It’s very much a visual novel rather than a puzzle game, with your choices mostly being which pet’s storyline to follow each day, but with its brisk play time of 1-2 hours this works fine.

Table Manners: Physics-Based Dating Game

What happens when a surgeon from Surgeon Simulator (SS) decides to go for a date? Well, you get this.

Like SS, you control your own hand to use, grab and release the objects and complete the objectives, while you are dealing with unpredictable game’s physics. Some differences where the time is limited to complete the objectives and you are on a date; impress him/her/them with your ‘handy’ skills by pouring the wine, cooking the marshmallows, mixing the drinks, grabbing the sushi, etc. Impress them (good) enough and you get the rewards; items for your hand and ultimate goal at the end.

Best Friend Forever

Best Friend Forever

Note: I updated this review after completing the game.

The Good:

This goes without saying but the dogs in this game are just so lovely. Best Friend Forever does a great job of combining the dating sim/visual novel elements with caring and training your dog. Having them be on screen at all times for you to interact with while out and about in the city is one of the standout features in the game, and makes me very thankful to be playing on a touchscreen laptop as the patting mini-feature translates really well to touchscreen input. The art for the dogs and the date options are a lovely soft 2D style. And the cast of characters includes tonnes of diversity, so hopefully there will be a love interest for everyone.

Best Friend Forever is a cute, relaxing game that I really liked, but it has some issues that make me a bit hesitant to recommend it.

Let’s start with the positives. Best Friend Forever is a super cute, wholesome game that I can genuinely say I enjoyed playing. The art is delightful; each one of the dogs is absolutely lovable, and the human characters all have personality and appeal. The backgrounds are very well-done, though at one point I did find myself wishing there were more variants. Overall, though, it’s a treat for the eyes. I didn’t even mind the loading screens because they were just that cute. It’s very pretty, you get the point.

Kitty Powers' Matchmaker

Kitty Powers' Matchmaker

Kitty Powers' Matchmaker is fun and addicting! This game is completely unique to anything I’ve ever played before, and it combines so many elements! Let’s start with clientele! First you choose a location (disco, gym, comic book store, ect.) for Kitty to set up fliers to attract customers. The locations you pick determine the type of clients that arrive; for example, choosing the comic book store will bring in the “Geeky” types. Each client is different, varying in looks, personality, and interests. Because of the uniqueness of each character, it can be hard finding the right match for your client, but that’s what makes it so much fun! Will your client swing a home-run of strike out on their date(s)?

I was meaning to write review for this game for some time, but I always wanted to finish it first. That took me quite a long time (and about four approaches), but finally I got to

! pair-up Kitty, so I consider it some form of ending.

“Kitty Powers' Matchmaker” looked like a perfect game for me - it didn’t take itself seriously, it has great style, it has humor, romance (with LGBT options), fun minigames and aspects of pure randomness, which I absolutely love. Sadly, something didn’t quite work out for me.
