-KLAUS- : I’m addicted to this story now

Klaus is the first game by La Costa studios depicting Klaus who tries to find who he is and why he’s here. With first time releases always come hiccups so has La Costa managed this and made an instant banger first try? In my opinion yes, incredibly so! While it’s not perfect it’s done a remarkable job. Either read the full review or just take a quick look below.

Pros:

✅ Incredible story, one of the best I’ve seen in a long time

Klaus

Overview

Klaus is an endearing and unusual puzzle/platformer that has just the right amount of difficulty to reward you for your efforts. It’s bursting with charm and boasts an unusual story telling system. The plot unfolds through a series of small and often humorous one-line sentences displayed within the game play area. Whilst a lot of these statements are jokes and flippant remarks, they also slowly reveal the story behind Klaus and his search for the truth behind his origins.

I liked Bed Lying Simulator 2020, it was a weird experience with some nice ideas. But these ideas are missing in Capsule Hotel Simulator. Besides lying there, nothing happens. Graphics are not good too and the achievements are not working, when writing this. I can not recommend it.

I personally really enjoyed this game. I first played it from before it’s Steam release (thanks to GrayStillPlays) so I somewhat knew what to do. The Steam release added a few features that I was glad to see like achievements and scene skips.

I love games like this one. Simple, but deep. Deep, but also doesn’t take itself too seriously. It makes you think about things but never shoves it in your face. I quite enjoyed all the references too. Some of the endings were a bit out there, but that’s part of the fun.

There are certain cruelties this game that presents you with that prevent me from classifying it as fun.

Within the game there are advertisements for the developers other games, and I had to reset the game (the intro sequence is waaay too long.) to escape them. The options for this game are super limited. I get there’s only so much you can do with a game like this. It just feels dull and monotonous. Playing through multiple times is not rewarding at all, and this game does NOT respect your time or intellect.

trippy as fuck

The best visual novel and game about drugs I’ve ever played. If you want to get sucked into a vortex of twisted plots, this game is definitely for you. Different storylines and endings make this game playable for long hours. Depiction of drug effects are also very imaginative and sometimes trippy as hell.

Visceratum

Visceratum

“_That is not dead which can eternal lie,

And with strange aeons even death may die._” - H.P. Lovecraft

  • A frank, sometimes surreal, other times horrifying story with a good portion of caustic irony and grotesque..

  • Simple controls and no “platforming”, pixel-hunting or teeth-grinding puzzles allow you to concentrate on the main thing - the story and your participation in it.

  • A unique atmosphere woven from real photographs, bizarre plasticine animation, and enchantingly murky music by Serge Bulat.

Blood. Guts. Our own meat.

Here are the Great Ancients sleeping in each of us.

Should we fear imaginary monsters, or creatures crawling out of the depths of the sea? After all, they are only the wretched of this world.

The unknown and fleshy within us - is the true, underlying horror of which we may not even be aware. A horror about to break free…

Visceratum draws inspiration from the work of those who have been able to look into the abyss of humankind. Let’s honor those names: Lovecraft and Kafka, Beksiński and Giger; Cronenberg, Švankmajer, Lynch. And many other masters of the dark arts gave a bit of their energy to the seed from which Visceratum sprouted. However, the game does not try to parasitize on the greats - by paying tribute to them, it seeks to construct its own reality.

The strange visuals, сrawling at the bottom of the “uncanny valley”, combining serious themes and drama with outright absurdity - create a special surreal atmosphere of Visceratum. Will you dare to step into these dark waters?

Grab your local friend or via Steam Remote Play, build your robots with unique abilities, and prepare yourself for shoot-up with evil robotic armies. All that while receiving (more or less) severe, enraging (or just funny) defects in 10+ original episodes, all packed with stunning hand-drawn visuals. Fall apart but do not fall back!

TWO ROBOT BUDDIES

Crawlbot and Jetbot are different in terms of playstyle and customization options, but they complement each other. Despite being from low-quality materials and prone to malfunctions.

BUILD THEM UP…

Assemble your very own robots from various bonus parts, choose more faulty parts to build a more powerful but more unstable robot. Get additional moving directions, bigger magazine or active reload ability.

…AND WATCH THEM FALL APART

All bonuses need to be balanced out with faulty parts in a unique “High risk - High reward” customization. Once your robot is damaged enough, it will start to malfunction. Be prepared for various defects such as friendly fire, nonstop movement, or reloading a random number of bullets.

VARIABLE HAND-DRAWN ENEMIES AND ENVIRONMENTS

Play through 7+ episodes, each consisting of three missions designed to be played in one sitting forming a short story. In every one of them, meet different enemies and experience variable beautiful environments, all created and animated by hand.

COMEDIC TOTALITY

We have chosen the most boring theme on the planet Earth, added robots, turned it upside down, and took it to an absurd extreme, thus forming the brand new genre of comedic totality. Your enemies are vicious, tireless, and armed with suitcases. They stop at nothing to reach their sinister goal. Except for the lunch break, there is no way they are going to miss that.

EnviroGolf

EnviroGolf

A text adventure golf game, well, sort of.

The game consists of a series of prompts, selecting your club, and then your power. After every hit, you’re treated to a screen with a message criticising the sport of golf due to its various specific negative effects on the welfare of the local fauna. That’s the whole game.

It’s hard to say what exactly this game is trying to accomplish. It certainly can’t be a text adventure, because there is no adventure to be had. The environmentalist message is negated by the store description of the game, so it can’t be in support of that. It can’t be a sardonic criticism of preachy games, because there’s no hint of self-awareness. What is there to be had here? Nothing, really. It sets out to do several things and does none of them well.

I used to participate in the sport of Golf. Both watching it and (ashamedly) playing it. I now know the consequences of my actions. I sincerely apologize to any forest animals reading this review. I never knew how many I was personally responsible for killing. But now I know. Golf was invented by the devil. Golf will end civilization. That is, unless we spread the word and get more people to play this game. I need to go contemplate how to fix my terrible decisions over a delicious juicy hamburger. Hamburgers are the only thing that clears my mind.
