Ruine

Ruine

The potential of this game is incredibly strong. The art style, world and characters are making me eager to see more from this game. There’s a solid gameplay loop that’ll keep you experimenting with different builds throughout different playthroughs. Very good stuff!

Obviously, there’s a lot to improve and balance. Combat isn’t as in depth as I feel it could be. Ruins, while fun to progress through, are quite basic in level design and detail, and the game can be finished in under an hour if you know what you’re doing and/or lucky enough from the RNG loot.

Bias: I’ve playtested this game.

While my “hrs on record” do not reflect it, I’ve spent hours and hours playtesting this game - breaking it, finding bugs, dying over and over and over… and I love this game. The art, music, atmosphere, and humor all work together in creating this wonderful game world filled with intriguing NPCs and clever enemies. I am not particularly good at this type of game, but I enjoy the hell out of Ruine in spite of that. I highly recommend checking it out.

Edited to Add: The dev continues to update this game with new content - enemies, areas, treasures, equipment… Ruine just gets better and better.

Graveyard Keeper

I wish Steam had a star rating system instead of just yes or no. This is one I would put midway. I like the game. I like the story and the world and I enjoy finishing the quests.

However, I do not like how complicated they made it to complete the quests. For example: You need acid. You need 3 ingredients for it. You have to do a little running around to get those 3 things, but that’s not bad, no problem. Then you realize you need to build the workstation to combine those 3 ingredients. Okay, still not too bad. But then you realize you need to build 2 more workstations just to get the material to build the workstation to make the acid. Oh, but wait, first you need the tech points to unlock both additional workstations separately. Think you’re ready now? Oh, think again. You also need more tech points to unlock another technology to make the material needed for the original acid workstation. Then when you finally get the acid made, you have to wait for a particular day of the week for the npc to show up. Which with luck like mine is the day that just ended and you have to wait 5 days to complete the quest that just took you 2-3 game weeks and lots of frustration and lots of looking up stuff on wiki just to make one little bottle of acid. Almost every quest is like that - jump through 20 different hoops just to get the one thing you need.

In spite of having bought and played all of the DLC (as of 2021, November), I still hesitantly recommend you play this.

I’m only going to review the main game and ignore DLCs for now, they might get their own review…

I enjoy this game a lot, but I think part of me feels a bit foolish for doing so? I think there are parts of the game that lacks polish, and I’m seeing some generally lazy or unfinished portions that is in some cases difficult to forgive

! town. The game also has a very frustrating way of lengthening quests.

Wanted to update my review now that I’ve played the game more and gotten to know the dev better.

I cannot recommend this game enough. Not only is it already in a very playable state, it’s really fun and for the most part works pretty intuitively. Most importantly though, the dev is SUPER active. He’s making other indi devs look real bad right now. I’ve suggested features/changes and had them implemented within the hour on numerous occasions. He’s been releasing a few patches every day and is incredibly hands on with the community.

I absolutely love this game. This is my first time playing any of the Weed Shop games. It’s a lot of fun and it gives you the choice to keep playing all chilled-out or you can play a lesser-chill version with people trying to mess with you left & right. I prefer the chill but it’s awesome to have the option. The creation team updates this game sometimes multiple times in a day- they’re extremely involved. I haven’t had to experience any bugs for long with this game, usually within the day they’re fixed. Every bug I’ve experienced so far has an easy workaround I’ve found. I’m excited to keep playing and see how much more awesome this game will be.

Toodles & Toddlers

The latest patch provides previously lacking directions, and collecting resources to improve units adds a pseudo-RTS element. Gameplay now makes a bit more sense, if that’s possible for this insane game. If you’re familiar with Adult Swim then this shares a similar vibe to some of those shows.

Oh boy. This is weird to review. First off, this game is a niche Polish browser MMO. Lots of people on the original web Polish servers. Not so much here. As you can imagine, there’s not a lot of international players. Most people (who already played/still play the Polish version) are Polish. Not that it’s a bad thing, but the population is incredibly low.

For the game itself, it’s fun. It might be nostalgia speaking, as I played this game a lot when I was younger. Playing it now after so much time it’s still as it used to be, with some improvements in graphics and the UI.

Plusses and minuses in equal measure I think. But for me personally more on the minus.

Some of the plusses:

  • Simple and neat graphics.

  • Sandbox nature of the map is evident, and this gives a positive ‘adventuresque’ feel, which I like

Some of the negatives:

  • Text too small. Waaay too small.

  • Every other thing you want to do in the open world requires you to pop over to the Premium Store and burn a hole in your wallet. Don’t tag it as ‘FREE’ when it clearly isn’t - there is definitely a ‘FREEMIUM’ tag available I’m sure.
