Tormentum - Dark Sorrow

Tormentum - Dark Sorrow

This game is dark, despondent, despairing and depending on how one defines horror, it could be that too. A point and click not so adventurous “adventure” game. (Adventure because it does fall into any other catergory, not really, other then maybe supernatural. But even that would be a stretch.) Has a moralistic tone of more right vs wrong, then good vs evil.

Story: The condemned arrives with a fellow prisoner at a castle specifically designed for torture, torment, and purging souls of their evil through pain, suffering, and grief. (Dark, very dark, in tone.) The condemned man is told this in his jail cell by the horned guard, who also informs the condemned man he (the guard) will back to torture him. Of course, the condemned man does not wait around for that. This begins the journey through the Hell-bound castle, and meeting its various denizans. After that it is a trip though the wastelands, dealing with the inhabitants, and eventually to the condemned man’s goal, a structure of uprised arms with a shrouded female statue inside. Ethical choices are made throughout, in the simply question kill or not kill.

Awakened behind the twisted metal bars of your cell suspended far above the earth, a magnificently gnarled airship humming ominously above as it carries our mysterious hooded protagonist from their unknown past to a hellish new reality behind the confines of a massive and ghastly prison complex. Will you give in to your new existence of demonic incarceration, or will you find the will to journey into the pits of hell itself and find your freedom?

Tormentum is not a tale for the queasy, with brutal depictions of death, despair, and torture the imagery within is enough to make the average modern horror fan piss their pants in terror. The game comes from a seriously engaging and tasteful angle despite this, and everything is done in a fictionally compelling way that serves the narrative and not just for the sake of shock. The core element in Tormentum is atmosphere, and its surreal influences show to the very root.

This game does not work! I have the same problem as other gamer’s, after installation the game will not play, nothing happens when you press ‘new game’ but the stats show I have played for a certain time. I even uninstalled the game and reinstalled but the same problem exists. I can’t even find a website for the developers to email them for a fix, does anyone have any ideas?

Chicken Holmes - Chanislavski Whispers

Chicken Holmes - Chanislavski Whispers

i have played an incredible number of games in my life and this is the one with the single worst case of localization i have ever come across. surely it has been translated from spanish by an online translator like google translate, but even then i’d expect something better than this. other than that, you just click around, try to make sure you click on everything clickable, or you’ll get stuck, solve a couple stupid puzzles and try to find some semblance of sense in the story. even the cutesy characters don’t evoke anything positive, when you can make little sense of what the hell is going on. something with english that bad shouldn’t be offered in english to the public. avoid this mess at all costs, including the prequel.

Night in Riverager

Night in Riverager

The developer mentions that there are some mild fantasy violence and also includes topics such as murder and torture; there is none of that in the game.

It’s also rather short, about 10-12 minutes where you talk to your mom and then you leave to fetch her some medicine since she has some sort of illness. When you leave your home, you venture northward to access a bridge to go to your uncle’s home.

You don’t make it. It ends, to me, abruptly. I don’t mind it being short, but I would like to have a bit more closure. At least let me get the medicine…

DISCLAIMER: This is a full review, and NOT a first impressions review

Night in Riverager is a game developed by Two Star Games and published by V Publishing

The game offers some nice graphics and a really beautiful aesthetic, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same

The game does suffer with some repetitiveness at certain areas of the game but a fun game nonetheless

Night in Riverager overall, however, is a fun game to play, yet sometimes repetitive and it does get boring if being played for a long time, but is a really good horror game to play in short bursts!

Shadowgate: MacVenture Series

Shadowgate: MacVenture Series

I jumped into this without knowing anything about it. Yeah I played the Mac games on an emulator and have seen them here and there and finished some on Nintendo, i’m kind of familiar with the games, I was just expecting this Steam release to be a handful of roms and some kind of emulator.

Surprisingly it isn’t though.. it’s a set of games built from the ground up to resemble the old versions, and it does a remarkable job at it. You’ve got the old Mac note windows (albeit with new fonts) and all the methods of interaction are the same, including the item management where you can just lose stuff if you don’t organize it well. That’s refreshing. Everything works the way you’d expect it to and it even comes with a mono and color version for picky types.

Real player with 26.2 hrs in game

Shadowgate is just plain bullshit and I’ll tell you why. I rank this title as the least forgiving out of the whole bunch and for a couple reasons. It’s picky as hell inventory and those damn torches. Shadowgate is basically MacVenture’s take on a point and click fantasy title. Your goal is to defeat a rogue wizard who’s abusing his powers for evil, to put it simply.

I didn’t find this title as fun as I remotely did with the others. The torches are the timer in this game and there’s barely a hint as to when you’ll know when one of them will go out. If you’re caught up solving a few puzzles at a time, it’s easy to miss the message that one of your torches is flickering. You’ll see the screen begin to pixelate, yes, but for all you know it could be a reaction from solving a puzzle or what have you.

Chimeras: Mortal Medicine Collector’s Edition

Chimeras: Mortal Medicine Collector’s Edition

As with all the Chimeras games, this is fun to play, smoothly running from one scene to the next. Some entertaining hidden object scenes (slightly on the easy side) and lots of actual game play in between. The story line, as you would expect, is rather silly, but who cares?! I have now played all 6 Chimera games and would recommend you buying them in the bundle, try one and see for yourself. Simply amusing, relaxing games highly recommended for whiling away a few hours.

You are a detective hired to recapture a convicted murderer. Said murderer is accused of poisoning the town’s children and killing his own daughter. But is that what happened?

HO scenes are fun, minigames challenging, and the plot engaging. Recommend in the bundle, just for ease of purchase.
