Path of the Martyrs

Path of the Martyrs

Path of the Martyrs is an excellent adventure!

The time I spent as Saiyato in the world of Delma was rewarding.

While battles proved somewhat easy, they were also a lot of fun. The combat and skill systems have depth, and fun realtime arcade elements in some cases that keep you on your toes. Resources are plentiful for thorough explorers.

The real challenge is the puzzles. Kazuki Takamura is a clever designer when it comes to these. There are many types of puzzle, and the difficulty level is a nice balance between frustration and satisfaction.

(Note: I will NOT judge this game based on its language. I don’t speak Portuguese, but I certainly understand what it’s like to have English as a second or third language. Just know that it is possible to understand everything that is said in the game, even though some things sound a bit strange to us. I take it as fun to try and figure out what the author initially meant to say in the first place, like a puzzle in a puzzle game!)

This certainly looked like an interesting game, so I decided to check it out! I also wanted to support the Developer since it looked like they put a lot of work into the game. It shows. The atmosphere, music, OST/SFX, and all the goodness are fun to play with and I wasn’t bored once! Sometimes you gotta grind… still wasn’t boring.

I still did not finish the game, but at the time of this writing, I’m about 15 hours on the story.

I’m really loving it! The story is captivating, the art design is quite charming and the original soundtrack is beautiful to hear.

The combat system is the classic turn-based combat. At this moment I’ve didn’t find any true difficulties (besides not staying low on mana), but it’s still quite challenging (and I’m probably still in the beggining). Trying to learn which type of spell is more effective against each monster was fun. And the spell animations are gorgeous!

Darker : Episode I

This is just like those indie games that you think are gonna be shit, because of the low budget, but isn’t. The soundtrack is just gold and everything in this game scream talent, but not money. I was constantly on my heels playing this, it’s so scary! They handle tension brilliantly.

This could turn out to be an amazing series of Darker games, if it is supported by the community. And this is not a full game! This is just a little teaser and test if we want more of Brothar, wich i would LOVE!

Thanks.

Very short game, with nothing really to do. Have to figure out the controls yourself, as there was no way to figure out key binds. There is not a hell of a lot to do in the game, and no real story. The atmosphere and music were awesome, and this could be expanded into an awesome game, but at the moment, its would be better if it were a free demo.

Pale Cachexia

Pale Cachexia

Beautiful Sadness

Lonely. This is the first word that greets you when you start Pale Cachexia. Alone in the dark wood. The contrast between forest’s spring awakening and “ghostly gloom” of the night, with “rustling sounds of crickets”, nocturnal creatures and “ominous howls”, the feeling that someone is breathing right behind you while you venture among the endless unmoving trees - all set the mood of the VN right from the start and mark it as decidedly Gothic and Romanticist. With a sense of crippling loneliness and smallness the main character Esther stumbles through this vast, misty forest in search of a cure for her terminal illness, and finds herself in a gloomy Gothic manor, almost like she just stepped into a dream.

Short Review:

  • Kinetic visual novel (no choices)

  • Complexity in story and characters

  • Heavy topics of death, illness, grief, guilt, and loneliness

  • Somewhat open ending

  • Nice art, including unlockables

  • Soundtrack that perfectly enhances mood

  • Overall an atmospheric, emotional story I enjoyed!

Full Review:

What an atmospheric, emotionally complex story. This kinetic novel (visual novel without any choices) has elements of horror and fantasy, and there are some creepy parts, but it’s mostly mysterious and melancholic, dealing with the heavy topics of death/dying, illness, grief, guilt, and loneliness.

Fallstreak: Requiem for my Homeland

Fallstreak: Requiem for my Homeland

Humanity has tapped into the very power of possibility and has doomed itself in the process. The MC is a child soldier tasked with fighting a war over scraps, and a chance for a few humans to survive advancing armageddon. This VN is a vicious look at war, love and human ambition. There are waifus, war crimes, well written scif-fi and extreme violence. Although there are certainly better looking visual novels, the character designs are appealing and the music is surprisingly good. There are even genuinely comedic moments in all of the grim dark (An old man’s joke about painting his wife’s canvas comes to mind). Of course those happy moments are a set up for an absolutely brutal series of events that will leave you feeling hollow at the end of it. Best $5 I’ve spent all year.

Rather than being a sequel to the original game, this game is the prequel. It explains alot of what happens in the original game.

While definitely shorter than the one before it, the writing, sound design, CG’s, etc. are still very good, if not better. Taking the brutal and gut wrenching descriptions of gore on a whole nother level (coming from my mind). The OST’s of this VN is amazing, perhaps at times better than the original one. While I am sad that this one doesn’t have as much gameplay to offer as the first Fallstreak, it is still a masterpiece. A diamond in the rough, just waiting to be found. Was it well worth the 4 euros I spent on it? Very. If you are reading this to see if you should buy this or not, then let me say that. This game isn’t a requirement, but if you enjoyed the first Fallstreak as much as I did then it is well worth the price.

Storyline: On the darkest of nights when creatures and spirits rarely seen by man abound, a lost(?) traveler/wanderer is invited to join a campfire and listen to a tale. The tale told by the invisible narrator is about a small insignificant nameless creature born out of darkness on the darkest of nights much like that night. This epic journey of self-awareness and discovery turns into a magic strewn and danger filled quest which takes place in a single night full of magic and spirits taken from Swedish forklore.

You follow a little creature on his journey for fulfillment, wandering through nightly environments that are inspired by tales of folklore. Gameplay is quite standard to the point-and-click genre where you collect objects to interact with your surroundings and overcome puzzles. A nice addition though, is that you’re equipped with four elemental runes (earth, water, air, fire) which activate and produce different outcomes depending on the scene. You can also interact with entities in a few different ways, such as touching, observing or talking to the person/object. Although not all interactions are entirely necessary, it can lead to some humerous/extra dialogue and is a nice feature nonetheless.

Echoed Memories

Echoed Memories

It’s a great game with lovable characters and a fun, yet very emotional story. There are many accessability options to keep the game available to a wide audience. There is a also a difficulty setting for hard, normal, and casual - with casual making the game VERY easy if you are only interested in story and don’t really want to fight a lot of difficult battles.

Overall, Echo607 has knocked another great game out of the park, and I highly recommend this game for any RPG Lovers. Don’t expect another Final Fantasy clone. It’s so much deeper than that. Also flirting, lots and lots of flirting.

Disney G-Force

Disney G-Force

G-Force has changed the way I think about life, before purchasing this game I was a hard-core racist, I never found myself going outside to see grass, I had never felt the warm embrace of a woman, after purchasing this life-changing game, it made me think deeply. This game has revolutionized my thoughts, I am no longer a raging racist. I attribute this to the character Mooch. The character Mooch is an open-minded loveable character, Mooch’s character provokes so much emotion, during my 3rd speedrun attempt, I broke into tears, seeing such a small creature have a massive impact on the game like that, makes me so happy, it shows that the little man still has a shot at making it big. It shows that no matter who you are you can do anything you put your mind to. Mooch has inspired me in so many ways, sometimes at night, I will sit at my desk, staring at pictures of Mooch he gives me inspiration he gives me the willpower to do what I want to do. Mooch has been there for me when no one else was. When I first purchased this game, I hated the thought of touching the grass, I hated the thought of an outside world. This game has shown me that there is more to life than just games, there is a whole new life outside. Although since buying this game I have been diagnosed with Insomnia, Bi-Polar Depression 2, Schizophrenia, as well as a host of physical illnesses, like partial paralysis in my lower body. Aside from that, my mind has never felt better, I feel mentally aware and feel as if I am ready to take on the world. Sometimes at night, I think about how I can achieve greatness and how I can leave my mark on this world, and that is by playing this game that is by finishing this amazing game. As one of my good friends once said “The worst part of having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don’t.”, This game showed me that I don’t have to suppress my thoughts I don’t have to act like a normal person I can be who I am. This game has changed my life for the better, I still hope one day I will be able to feel the warm embrace of a woman.

Revenant March

Revenant March

The stories are gripping, and I found the decisions I needed to make compelling, I had to think about them. I felt acutely that the many strong characters had thoughts and emotions I would have to discover as the story progressed, including the narrator.

I’ve played five hours thus far, in two sittings that both went longer than I’d planned.

Real player with 5.9 hrs in game

What a pleasant surprise this turned out to be! This visual novel contains an engaging story-line with thrilling plot twists, a cast of interesting, non-cliche characters, and a lovely, intelligent heroine.

Setting:

Revenant March is a dark fantasy set in the Middle Ages. It tackles two mysteries: the horrors that occur in Gremach, and Olenine’s backstory.

Characters:

I absolutely loved following Olenine’s perspective, and how logical minded, yet still empathetic she could act towards the other characters. She ticks all of the boxes in my female protagonist requirements, and I wish we had more main characters similar to her. The side characters are memorable, and their dynamic with Olenine was impressive. Most noteworthy were her interactions with other, equality well written, female characters; such as Tanith and Seilana. But I have to say, her possible friendship with Ennet was also very precious.
