Synthwave Dream ‘85

Yo, I don’t know why I like this game. I really do. If more things meld towards my interests, i.e. online multiplayer with VAC support, trading cards, some sort of digital storage space for multiple vehicles…

There’s a heavy emphasis on going high speed & listening to loud music, which I think misses the point of modern capabilities in its search to be a retroactively retro hit. Y’know? I sort of, for lack of a better term, picked up speed, right uh, away. But I still can’t drift, and that’s like, the basis of the game?

(“Nightmare mode” in which a huge face comes closer from the back has been added.

Unlike the traditional “Infinito Dream Mode”, if you run slowly you will catch up with the face and it will be a game over.

In other words, it is something like a time limit, and it has a strong content of the race game colors.)

Cyber Protocol

Cyber Protocol

THIS IS NOT PACMAN. It looks like it but it is not.

This is a sliding puzzle game - there are 100 levels. That sounds easy right? - Wrong. Its a sliding puzzle game with obstacles that are out to kill you and ruin your day. (if you look at a screen shot - if its orange, red, moves, or looks at you funny it wants to kill you.

Who is this game for? Do you want to challenge yourself? - Yes. Do you want to bash your controller/keyboard because you died 3 moves away from the objective - yes. Do you want to feel immensely satisfied at beating a level - yes. Great. This is for you. The game is a challenge, with a sense of timing, planning and logical thinking you can succeed. Go for that Perfect, do the level as fast as you can - challenge yourself to get a high score.

LineVox is a Tron-inspired game of competitive Snake with solo and multiplayer modes. For its price, it’s severely lacking in content, with both underwhelming powerups and barely distinguishable versions of the same map. For collectors only.
Pros

✅ Ship selection, map options

✅ Multiplayer (note: I didn’t test it)

✅ Powerups

✅ Graphical options to improve visibility (disable reflections, fog, etc)

✅ Working achievements

Cons

❌ Control is not smooth: You’re limited to 45 degree turns

Hoverloop

Hoverloop

Fun game to play against friends. Pretty fleshed out already for an Early Access title and you feel the dev is committed to bringing a fine product!

Needs some more polish and a bunch more active players to get an online community going, but I definitely see the potential!

Hoverloop Early Access Game Review

Hoverloop is a “multiplayer split-screen arcade arena combat” video game developed by Not A Company. This studio consists of 2 people, Philippe Mesotten and Lars Driessen. Hoverloop was successfully funded on Kickstarter, and you can check it out on Steam here.

Premise

In Hoverloop, you control one of many customizable drones, each with its own special ability — similar to an “ultimate” in a MOBA — to help ensure victory. On each in-game stage, there are various item pick-ups to discover to further increase the edge over your opponents. Additionally, there are a wide variety of game modes to choose from to keep the game fresh.

Dark Data

Absolutely awesome game. Old school retro Golden Eye multiplayer inspired goodness, local splits screen up to 4 players, bot support, atmospheric music, cool guns, multiple modes to choose from. One of the best thing you can pop up at LAN party. I highly recommend it.

A boxy throwback to 64-bit couch 3d shooter deathmatches. Plenty of character customisation, weapons, levels and modes to play with, and some bots in case you have no friends or controllers or both.

SEQUENCE STORM

SEQUENCE STORM

Highly recommend that you give it a try. It’s got a high skill-ceiling (See: My time.) with an array of helpful options/tools to get you to those extreme charts. The editor takes a bit of time to learn (I’d say 5 to 10 hours to get the hang of it.), but has a fast workflow once you figure things out.

More than anything, I think this game has potential. Just sticking with the game for ~3 quarters of a year, I’ve seen the game change a lot, and for the better too. Despite being a single developer, they often work on the game and is very responsive to the (rather small) community. A new note-type (something you don’t see often in rhythm games), camera effects, a ton of world customization options in the editor, and many other things were added since I’ve started playing. It’s incredibly impressive and I hope it pays off.

Intro

Let me start by saying that you should get this game. It’s fun, challenging, and offers lots of replayability. The tracks are your standard-fare EDM by largely unknown artists. They’re all pretty good (as are the beatmaps) and with the Workshop the track selection is only bound to improve. It’s F2P so there’s really no excuse not to try it out.

The Gameplay

Overall, the gameplay is incredibly fun. It’s similar to Amplitude’s but with a lot more inputs (9) and from what I can tell it’s almost a carbon copy of Sound Vortex. So if those games are your thing, this probably will be, too. Most of the beatmaps are stellar and really fun to play, with many complex and interesting patterns.

The Ascent

The Ascent

The Ascent is a very well made game, it goes like prune juice through a granny with the runs.

It’s not a very deep game but what it does, it does so exceedingly well.

The storytelling is top notch, it’s no disco elisium but stories are believable, consistent , fun and unforced.

It’s an adult game with plenty of swearing, blood, drugs and gore.

I was able to reach out and touch my opponents with a satisfactory amount of bullets, gunfights quickly turn into adrenaline fueled gore-fests and once I figured out the augments, the flow of the fights was juuuuust right.

Real player with 76.2 hrs in game

Bugs appear to be de rigueur for cyberpunk-themed games these days and The Ascent is sadly no exception. The spectacular combos during co-op battles are fun and the visuals are incredible, but there’s no denying that the bugs (sometimes progression-breaking) can become wearisome and lead to a variable experience amongst co-op players (e.g., some players may experience progression blockers, others will not - some players will be awarded achievements, others will not).

Tri6: Infinite

Tri6: Infinite

Summary

A futuristic endless runner/racer that pits you against a progressively more difficult series of procedurally generated obstacles at an increasingly fast pace. Earn unlockables and compete in global leaderboards while vibing to the vaguely Tron-like visuals.

What is it?

In Tri6 Infinite you control one of three vehicles with differing characteristics through an endless series of procedurally generated tunnels filled with twists, turns, obstacles, and opponents, all of which exists in “cyberspace.”

Destropolis

Destropolis

Proof that a twin-stick shooter can be a work of art.

Destropolis’ minimalist art style is bolstered by intelligent gameplay with precision weapon and skill mechanics, and persistent level progression across play sessions.

The aesthetics and gameplay are elevated by LukHash’s beautiful synthwave soundtrack and the integration of tempo manipulation with Bullet Time works to create a beautiful example of digital love.

The new update is lit.

My old review was still recommended, but I listed a litany of complaints and it was very negative overall.

That old review is wrong, so it’s gone. Of course I still recommend the game, it’s a blast.

So many things have been tuned, changed, and improved across the board.

It’s a bit easy to start now, but it’s sooo fun. Explosions everywhere. More guns, better guns.

If you want a chill game to zone out after a hard day, this is your ticket.

You get to be the conductor of a ballet of destruction, good luck have fun.
