Vengeful Heart

Vengeful Heart

Great cyberpunk VN with a heavy, HEAVY emphasis on the ‘punk’, Vengeful Heart was a brisk, thrilling read! The aesthetic was great, the music is great, the whole novel is criminally underrated. The plot is exactly what I was hoping for and even more pulse-pounding than I expected. It’s not perfect - a couple of the plot beats fell a little flat, like Little Jimmy and the two romantic options' jealousy - but overall it was a worthwhile read.

Don’t pass this one up!

What Am I in For?

Vengeful Heart (VH) is a visual novel set in a futuristic dystopian world. The game is purely a reading experience, with only one choice players make close to the very end of the game. Outside of megacities, life is very difficult due in large part to the lack of water and heavily polluted desert sands. Players follow the story of a hydraulics engineer turned activist leader by the name of Josephine Lace, formerly employed by Nepthys, the largest water company in an unnamed city. She ends up losing both her home and job, then soon after begins her crusade against the many injustices her former boss slowly enacted over the course of the story.

Cardinal Cross

Cardinal Cross

Well, the game is done good enough: various backgrounds, wide range of sprites, a lot of CG, adjustable text size, and I hadn’t any technical issues while playing. However that’s … all.

Music is nice, but not catching, sometimes CGs feel like depicting some other characters rather than sprites, and the writing is plain.

And, for me, text and plot is the reason game is boring. It consists of just dialogs that are mainly factual and serve only to drive the plot. So that results in, first, quite schematical characters to whom I didn’t manage to get any attached, second, lack of depth in relations between characters. And romance options, in their turn, give out the impression that they are put into just because of “it has to be in such game, so we added it”.

I’ve loved Impqueen/Rinmaru since I first played Ascension several years ago. I was eagerly awaiting the release of her next game, whatever it might be, and she definitely didn’t let me down.

Now, if you were expecting something exactly like Ascension, that’s not what this is. For one thing, the overall technical quality has gone up, the graphics, user interface, and overall way the game runs has improved by leaps and bounds. For another, while Ascension was a fantasy story with a heavy romantic component while Cardinal Cross is a sci-fi thriller with a lighter romantic component.

For any true visual novel readers out there, It’s good. 4 out 5 rating. Of coarse ignore all the ones going against this novel, they are irrelevant.

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS GAME!!!!

I rarely ever write a review on Steam games bc most of the time, I’m just too lazy ( ^ ^ ;;)

But, this game is incredible!! The art is absolutely beautiful and the story is amazing, it may look like a ‘one and done’ kind of game, but trust me, you’ll be in front of the screen for hours. Everything about this game has soooo much potential and I can’t wait for the next book to come out!!! There is a premium DLC for purchase and I haven’t bought it yet cause I’m literally broke, but I’m definitely planning to save up for it! If I could, I would absolutely give all my money into supporting this game, once I finish school and get a great job, you can definitely count on my support financially!! Never stop making games Aeon Dream Studios!!!! Fighting!!!
