Orangeblood

Orangeblood

I would recommend this game. However, I will not do so without SOME talking points.

First - The art is amazing. However, it becomes very jarring when moving around inside of zones the fog of war and tilt shift become VERY hard on the eyes.

I STRONGLY suggest that anyone wanting to play the game mess with the settings at length.

Make sure the bottom three settings are OFF (Tilt Shift, Chromatic Aberration, and CRT) and the color scheme is set to something easy on your eyes like Flat or Cinema. Vivid works as well but will be slightly more straining.

The world is one interconnected hub and unlocks different areas with to the story’s progression, but they all loop back round to each other and fast travel is conveniently placed. Given that the story is kind of a placeholder (name more than maybe ten stories in games that aren’t), I kind of wish it skipped the explanations about why you’re going from one area to the next in favor of an unspoken, Shadow of the Colossus/Legacy of Kain style, web of bosses you can choose to fight in any order you want to.

Penny RPG: Shadows of the Lost - A Blood City Tale

Penny RPG: Shadows of the Lost - A Blood City Tale

This is a full on RPG! The lo-fi minimalist visuals and “Penny RPG” in the name led me to expect a game that’s light on gameplay, but it’s got all the regular RPG features: a simple but fun combat system; buying and selling; LOTS of dialogue and missions; and peripheral lore to explore, the whole deal. Plus, it has a cool Shadowrun vibe, and the writing is spot on for the cyberpunk genre. I had some minor issues with gamepad control (chalking it up to early access) so I used keyboard controls, which worked great. I’m looking forward to learning how this mystery unfolds!

This game just hit early access, but so far it’s looking pretty good. This is a pretty standard RPG but with a cool cyberpunk theme. Just keep in mind, though, that it is still early access, so the game is incomplete and there are a few bugs that you’re bound to run into. Having said that, it’ll provide you with a interesting story and fun battle mechanics that are a bit of a throwback to years past.

Guns Undarkness

Guns Undarkness

【overview】

“Guns Undarkness” is a “Stealth RPG” that combines typical stealth game features such as remaining undetected and invading antagonist’s territory, with the traditional command type JRPG. The gameplay is roughly divided into two parts: a stealth part that hides on the field and a battle part that is developed by a turn-based command-type battle system. Encountering without being found by the enemy allows you to enter the battle in an advantageous manner. Aim for the depths of the antagonist’s territory while managing your resources well.

MUSIC

well…it has one great song. i’m not sure if there are more. generally i don’t pay attention to this aspect of games.

STORY

though i enjoy what we got, i would agree with others that it’s barren. not a lot going on here.

more world building would be nice. the elder could have gave some good exposition on the region which haru knows nothing of. instead of just asking a stranger for help and mentioning someone that just happened to be right there. where do these people sleep anyway? too cold to sleep outside.

This game was an enjoyable experience, if you can get past the translation(which adds a bit to the charm for me) and it got many laughs from me,

! i couldnt figure out how to date the detective, got the other 4 routes tho well worth the money for me and i do plan to play again to figure out the one thing i missed.

! Also based on looks and a cursory glance at the game i was going to pass on it at first, but then i read timeloop and immediately hopped in, no regrets.

Anachronox

Anachronox

Final score: 8/10

Pros: story; dialogue; music; combat; puzzle design

Cons: several major bugs; little to no explanation for certain game/combat mechanics; narrow windows for a handful of side quests and character upgrades

PC: 64-bit Windows 7, Intel i7. Ran smoothly from point of sale, no need for workarounds or additional patches.

Review: I have more to say about this game than I can type here or that most people would read. My first exposure to Anachronox was playing the demo included on a PCGamer disc back in my middle and high school years. It only included a small snippet of the game - the Sly Boots murder investigation in Whitendon. I was intrigued by nearly everything about the game design, and playing it in full almost two decades later I was not disappointed.

When I started playing this game I had no idea what to expect. I was initially struggling to get two other games set up and ready to stream (Jade Empire and Thief Gold) and so I was looking for a back-up game to stream instead and saw the name, remembered I got it years ago (most likely during a sale) and I gave the store a quick look just to get the genre correct for my organisation with how I name/organise my streams by game genre, ect. That said, what came next I was not prepared for!
