End of Realms

End of Realms

It is an old school RPG where the player continually decides between two to three locations where the main character should go to. At each location certain or uncertain events take place. The narrative itself is set in stone when certain events are triggered or certain conditions are met at various locations. The game is heavy on combat and randomness.

The game works with three main stats (fortitude, defense and magic) that are purely dependent on gear and acquired passive skills. Passive and active skills can be found randomly or are unlocked when certain not foretold events are triggered. As a new player it can be a bit difficult to understand these mechanics which have not been disclosed. Usually there is some sort of logic in it. If for example you want to wear heavier armor, you need passive armor skills. It then could be worth it to try to collect armor and wear as heavy defensive armor as possible to boost such stats. If you would like to unlock more mage skills or play as a rogue, then it can perhaps be worth it to experiment more with those skills in the hope of unlocking more of those. There is significant experimentation required to unlock a lot of skills and thus enable various viable builds. It is unlikely that you’ll unlock all the skills, find all of the rarest equipment or all of the crafting recipes on a single playthrough.

A fantastic game!!!!!!

Easy to learn - harder to finish I guess.

I’m running it in a window 2560 x 1440 using Lossless Scaling - a program you can find in the Steam Shop.

Creas

Creas

Synopsis

On a rainy night, Max finds himself in front of his desk immersed in his drawings as usual, he has difficulty stopping, bewitched by this obsession to recreate the creatures that haunts his mind. He eventually gave in to exhaustion and found his bed. The next day, he glimpses a stranger through his window who seems to be spying on him and decides to pursue him through the forest behind his home. Unaware, he is about to find himself in a conflict that endangers the survival of mankind, and even worse, he is the only person with the power to re-establish balance in the universe.

Universe

A young man discovers that the creatures of his imagination actually exist. They are called Creas and live on a planet called Ostral. The problem is, the Creas mysteriously teleport to Earth. He will then discover the secrets of an ancient civilization which would be the creators of humans as well as the Creas. They are called the Husters, named Creators by the Creas. Max is part of this lineage, he will have to uncover the reason why these creations suddenly appear on Earth and that the preservation of the balance between these 2 races relies on him.

Gameplay

The menu has been revised to look like a digital music player (Ipod), we find all the basic functions, except the equipment which is managed automatically, but also the objectives (Quests), Karma (Impact of moral choices) and even successes (Successes).

Combat

The combat system is turn-based. A rune system is included, it will be used to heal or revive the heroes during combat as well as to use bonuses that will improve the heroes stats. It is by attacking that the hero will fulfill the power of the rune that corresponds to his element.

By defending himself, he will be able to refill his energy which fuels the skills.

Variety

Creas also includes several other gameplay elements (Mini-games) which will change depending on the situations Max encounters. A racing system has been added

Choice

During the game, the player will have to make moral choices (Karma) which will sometimes affect the story as well as Max’s strengths and weaknesses.

Author’s comment

The current advancement represents the 1st act of Creas’s game, called ‘The arrival’.

Rathe: The Beginning

Rathe: The Beginning

ok sadly this game has only 1 plus point so far: the character creation. you can select your class, stats and it even has custom skins for each of the classes which is really nice and almost no game i know of offers this. this is also the main reason i gave this game a chance.

however i didnt play very far, the game is just not polished enough. 2 seconds into the game and the first bug came up:

if you walk too fast out of the room then first quest doesnt even start.

then there too many ghost doors and people. you can walk through them like they are not even there. or characters stand on walls inside some houses.

Lost Dimension

Lost Dimension

Lost Dimension is another PS Vita game that got unnoticed (also released for PS3 too), and ported onto Steam. Needless to say, I’ve heard about the game since last year thanks to it’s catchy final boss theme, but because it was on the Vita, I could never get itplay . But since it’s on Steam I finally have the chance to play it.

Pros:

  • Interesting mysteries in the story, and a great reveal for them

  • The areas are really cool to look at, same with the models of allies and enemies

  • The portraits have hair physics and look sweet

Lost Dimension is one of those games that’s between a thumbs-up and thumbs-down for me. Lost Dimension definitely has some good aspects, and some bad aspects. Since I enjoyed the game enough to do two playthroughs and get all the achievements, I’ll lean towards a recommendation.

Lost Dimension has a decent premise, but rather weak execution. Eleven heroic teenagers are sent to save the world and ascend a tower. Unfortunately, among the team are traitors that will betray the team, but will need to assist the team as they too have reasons to ascend the tower. These traitors are randomly generated per playthrough yet easy enough to discover, but comes off to me as a very interesting idea regardless. Whomever you’ve deemed to remove from your team leaves behind their abilities you’ve unlocked, and can give your team varied builds.

Warning This game as intense amount of screen shaking and may effect those who are sensitive to motion sickness*

Monster Seek (Ep.1) has wonderful graphics and music with simplistic (non complicated) controls. You character looks like a cross between Dr. Light (megaman) and George Lucas (Star Wars) which got me invested from the first moment I saw the game.

Drova - Teaser

Drova - Teaser

This game has a lot of potential! The story shines though - it isn’t (at this stage at least) too complex. I very much enjoyed the action RPG style. Moving through the darkness was one of the best mechanics, along with the medicinal plant harvesting (and too much medicinal plant = toxic).

The two things I thought were potential issues were: 1. More than once, a location is described in terms that aren’t helpful. I just had to look in the general vicinity, but if it describes a location further away, this could be bad). 2. It seemed difficult to run and change weapons - possiblky part of that was due to the “ready weapon” graphics are barely different from the “weapon away” graphics. This is super simple to change, so I’m not all that concerned about this.

Free-to-try, and fun. :) I’ll give the teaser a 6/10 nostalgia rating for following in Gothic’s footsteps.

Overall, the interface is polished; the combat, while a bit fiddly, isn’t quite as clunky as Gothic 1’s. :) The ether mechanic is a bit odd, as is the resource you gain for hitting enemies while not getting hit.

The setting in the teaser is not so immediately captivating as Gothic’s, but the monster progression does have some of the Gothic feel.

Curious to see where this goes. :)
