Brigand: Oaxaca

Brigand: Oaxaca

Brigand Oaxaca is one of my favorite games of all time. Rough around the edges, buggy, brutal, and incredibly frustrating, it’s a treasure the likes of which you’ll rarely play. It’s creator, Brian Lancaster, is something of a tortured genius who, in between intense ayahuasca trips, and Mcaffee’esque stints in the jungles of Latin America, sought to share this powerful premonition of the plight of humanity in the upcoming apocalypse.

In all seriousness, this game scratches a niche that probably only a certain crowd will enjoy. If you like the original Deus Ex, but want it a little shittier, this is for you. If you like rollenspiele classics like gothic and og fallout, but feel that their unity of design and assets wasn’t tenuous and wild enough, this might be for you. If you like Stalker, but could do without all of those fan patches and bugfixes, then this is absolutely for you.

I think this is one of the best games I’ve ever played. I found it on the steam store page during the summer sale, and one glance at the preview video cemented it as something I had to buy, dlcs and all. I don’t regret getting it, in fact, I’m still in shock I hadn’t heard of this game sooner. Deus Ex-like gunplay? Open-ended gameplay, with (mostly) complete freedom of choice in how you want to complete the story? Voodoo (!) and cybernetics? A save system that lets you save scum but also gives you the thrill of permadeath by starving you of beds at times?

VoxStory - The Cinematic TTRPG

VoxStory - The Cinematic TTRPG

What is VoxStory?

VoxStory is the cinematic way to experience tabletop roleplaying. Keeping all of your favourite aspects of TTPRG’s and bringing them to the big screen, VoxStory is the modern way to roleplaying.

VoxStory remains true to the tabletop style of gaming, the gamemaster will set the scene while the roll of the dice determines your actions. But with VoxStory you can see the story play out on screen.

For the Gamemaster

World generation. Auto building. Climate management

World building is made easy with VoxStory. Each world is made up of a series of tiles that are generated from parameters you set. With multiple biomes, dimensions, and terrain options your base landscape can be generated instantly.

Once the Tile has been generated you can edit the landscape in more detail and begin adding buildings and objects. The Autobuild feature allows you to rapidly generate structures without the hassle of repetition, perfect for large settlements or less important buildings

You can control every detail, even down to the density of the fog or colour of the rain

For the Player

Character creation. Choices made easy. Inventory management. Control it from your phone

Character creation can be done on the free mobile companion app or in-game. 10 races and 12 classes at launch allows for plenty of choice for the player. After selecting the basics of your character like race and class, you can customise your character from their armour colour down to their eyes.

The gameplay itself is similar to traditional TTRPGs. Once the GM has set the scene, the players take it in turns to make actions, the results of which are determined by the roll of dice.

When entering a battle the players and enemies initiate turn-based combat. The turn order is based on several things including skills, spells and other actions.

Just another crappy mobile port. With diamonds and time to wait and stuff like that. Game is ugly and very child oriented. Characters are totally shallow AND THEY ALL SPEAK LIKE THIS IN FULL CAPSLOCK.

Never asked for a refund so fast.

Ethos 2: Fall Of Empires

Ethos 2: Fall Of Empires

Carve Your Own Path

Ethos 2: Fall Of Empires is a Historical RPG where every single decision you make affects your journey. Abilities, upgrades, weapons, interactions, quests, the atmosphere, and much more, are all affected by the actions and moral decisions you make within the game.

Become a tyrant, a hero, a lone wolf, or many other archetypes, the choice is yours!

The Story

The game takes place in the year 1453. You play as Constantine XI Palaiologos, the last Emperor of the Byzantine Empire. Your once great city of Constantinople has fallen into the hands of the Ottomans and your goal is to take it back.

You can do this by gathering troops/equipment/allies from leaders of other nearby nations in Egypt, the Balkans, The Middle East, and more! OR you can also choose to overthrow the leaders of other nations, and take their nations by force!

You may also attempt to take back Constantinople by making yourself an extremely powerful one-man-army, and attempt to take the city by yourself whenever you are ready. This can be through many means such as assassination of Mehmed the Conqueror, or by facing the entire Ottoman army by yourself.

Style

The game is very non-linear. Meaning that you can technically attempt to finish the final quest very early on in the game. Its an open-world game that doesn’t place a limit on exploration.

Consequences

Want to murder a main character that you need to complete a quest? Go for it. But expect there to be consequences. Want to become a pacifist and try to not harm anyone ever? Go for it. But expect there to be consequences.

Why This Game Is Being Made

As a massive RPG-fan, I was very tired of many AAA games giving you the illusion of ‘your decisions matter’. Because at the end of the day, choices in many AAA games pretty much only affected how much of a discount you could get at a merchants shop, or how some NPC’s react to you when you walk by.

I really want choices to matter in games. And that’s why this game is being made.

Saying that, this is a passion project for myself, and no one should expect this to be a AAA title. But hopefully it could be a really fun indie game that people can replay and have fun with :)

Create Your Character

Playing as a rich and dynamic character in the old west, you will be able to fully customize your attributes to fit your playstyle, such as Mixology, Seduction, and Sneakiness. You will manage your life as well as your saloon, such as maintaining your reputation and getting married. You will struggle with the effects of disease, aging, sanity, and addictions.

Form Relationships

Provide travellers with a distinct drink parlour, gaining legendary stories to regale and build your legend. Interact with townspeople as they populate the town, forging friendships with blacksmiths, sheriffs, and preachers, romance prospective partners, or blackmail, abduct, and murder those who threaten you.

Build

Build your saloon from the ground up. Expand the walls, build bordellos, opium dens, high stakes gambling rooms, and railed porches. Buy and place spittoons, tables, chairs, handcrafted bars, pianos, chandeliers, and diamond dust mirrors.

Manage

Thrive within a complex economy system, stockpiling booze, food, guns, and opium. Research a diverse array of drinks and foods to serve customers. Hire and manage staff from within the town populace, including barkeeps, cooks, servers, prostitutes, croupiers, pianists and bouncers. Help them reach their full potential, or fire and replace them with those more skilled.

Hundreds of Events

Face the forces of nature, meddlesome customers, firebrand Preachers, rival outlaw gangs, and much more. At some point, you will be tested by stronger and more formidable nemesis in longer event chains. Whatever you choose, you will face the consequences of your choices. The frontier is an unforgiving place.

Big Ambitions

Big Ambitions

Prologue

_“It’s been 3 months since grandma died. I know that I’m an adult now that I’m 18 years old, but still… It feels so scary that no one is there to take care of stuff.

There’s one good thing though. At the funeral, my uncle Fred asked me for my phone number. He said he wanted to help me get on my feet. I don’t really know him, but I guess he’s family after all.”_

Game Description

Big Ambitions is a roleplaying business simulator situated in the open-world city of New York. You start the game as a young kid surviving in the big apple. You have big ambitions for money and success, but you’re starting with absolutely nothing.

Gameplay

In Big Ambitions, you control a single person in the middle of the bustling metropolis of New York City. Your goal is to achieve financial success in various ways. Starting at the bottom flipping burgers or collecting garbage to eventually owning and running big businesses and real estate throughout the city.

As you progress, you always need to make sure that you’re getting enough sleep, keeping up with your health, and making sure your happiness is sufficient. Increasing your capital can be trickier than you think. As you will learn, money can’t buy time.

Money making opportunities

We’re still in the process of adding content to the game, but to give you a better understanding of the basics, we put together a list of ways you can make money:

  • Getting a job (cashier, warehouse worker, garbage collector, etc)

  • Running storefront businesses (clothing shops, restaurants, gift shops, etc)

  • Running office-based businesses

  • Buying buildings and renting them out

  • Real estate investments (buying and selling buildings strategically)

  • Investment Funds

Sandbox

Even though Big Ambitions has an interesting story featuring Uncle Fred and other characters, it’s up to you to decide how much you want to listen to them. Everything is available right from the beginning.

Day to day objectives and tasks

In Big Ambitions, you go through days just like in real life. Every day is different, and you’ll have various tasks to handle such as:

  • Sleeping, eating, and exercising

  • Educating yourself with courses and school

  • Recruiting and managing employees

  • Managing business warehouse status (buying and transporting goods)

  • Expanding into new business areas

  • Renovating buildings

  • Managing your vehicle(s). Filling up gas, maintaining the vehicle, etc.

  • Paying taxes

Note: I could not get the game to work at first. After contacting support I received the following advice which ended up working despite my skepticism:

Uninstall the game and delete the files

Restart the computer

Deactivate the antivirus

Install the game

I have played SCRAP games before in person (both 10ish person escape rooms and large 2k person events). I have not previously played any of their online/digital content. So far, I have only played the free portion of the game, which includes all of Day 1 and the beginning setup of Day 2. The setup of both days includes a video with some characters, 9 people with special items and the king. It seems from what I have seen so far you will need to defeat 4 monsters with the help of the 9 people. This will let you open a chest to help defeat the demon/escape from the demon fortress/something like that. There’s also some mysterious flashing light they ask you to investigate.

B100X - Auto Dungeon RPG

B100X - Auto Dungeon RPG

I do recommend the game but…there’re several glaring flaws.

The game does a very poor job explaining the item mixing system. This is because the game literally tells you nothing about the major rules governing item mixing and essence extraction. However, you can generally create items that continuously get stronger through good use of blank essences and abrasive stones. I wouldn’t have figured that out without hanging out on the game’s Steam forum.

The Heart System is literally a pointless feature. You lose a heart each time you die, unless you have Heart Protection. Lose all 5 hearts and you lose all of your equipped items the next time you die. Your hearts are restored for free every day at midnight. Seriously, this “feature” just screws over the player by preventing them from playing out of fear of losing their items when they’re out of hearts…or you could open the wallet for 75 hearts via microtransactions. Scroll up and look at the store page to see the price.

A great game - this is a semi idle game you can play actively for quite a long time before it starts slowing down. The game has very in depth ‘crafting’ mechanics, which are core of the game, so I have made a guide for the English speaking community based on sea season(patch 1.2 approximately) and added my own build in so you know that it’s not game being unfair, but you simply needing to be smart with using it’s mechanics.

Be aware that using the guide can take part of the fun you get by learning the unknown.
