Chinese Paladin:Sword and Fairy 6

Chinese Paladin:Sword and Fairy 6

One of the best story driven rpgs ever. I started playing chinese/taiwanese rpgs just about two months ago with Xuan Yuan Sword Ex: The Gate of Firmament and was overwhelmed by it’s story, character development and design (places and enemies are just artworks) and I thought there won’t be any other game as good as this one. Luckily I was so wrong.

The story of CP 6 ist even better (in my opinion). It is an amazing and a huge one. Many twists and developments. The main characters are all very interesting and their background stories very intriguing (Ok, Ju Shifang was not my favourite but the other ones are incredible). In the beginning I needed some time to grow fond of the characters but after some time I loved them. The most interesting one was perhaps Xian Qing (the wolf demon), although his story could have been more elaborate.

So disappointed. BUT I love this game too much.

Been a fan of Chinese Paladin ever since a kid…Been watching Chinese Paladin taiwanese dramas and loved every series, especially the one starring Crystal Liu Fei and Hu Ge.

:l Have been waiting many years for an english translation of CP games.

One of the main characters is 15-16….and the guy that likes her is like around 20??? What, haha. There needs to be a character history list about these heros. Its weird…

The game is so glitchy. Why hasn’t there been a patch released yet?

Agarest: Generations of War

Since this is currently my longest played games on Steam and maybe you won’t find a person with a longer hours count in the review section, I think I am kind of obligated to give this game a bit of review. The recommend vs not recommended system on Steam is fundamentally flawed. I would only point out what kind of games this is, and you decide for yourself whether you like it or not.

1. This is the type of “Wikia for the win” game. Don’t let my hours count fool you. I spent at least 50+ hours on researching for all the tricks, crafting and story route on Wikia. And this is very typical of your old-school RPG or JRPG in general. You need to do homework, you need to do research. The hours you spent outside the game is MUCH MUCH more important than your gaming hours. If you are the kind of person who just go and immerse yourself in the game world and you don’t care much about research game mechanics, this is bad for you.

After 213 hours and reaching the “normal” ending, it’s time for a review. To start with, it wasn’t a perfect experience. The game is rough around the edges and you should only buy it if you enjoy grinding a lot. There’s plenty of it. Endless hours of mandatory leveling and gathering materials. But Agarest has enough redeeming traits to make up for this.

Short version

  • fully voiced

  • lots of fan service

  • huge selection of characters

  • nice character animations and good music

2D RPG game - old school graphics and game play. Mix of modern and old themes - e.g. computers and tvs are common, but battling is with swords and mages. Excellent mix.

I’ve played other games by this developer and this one is a bit of a case of style over content. It’s a very attractive looking game but it’s simplistic and rather dull. I usually can’t wait to get back and play a new game but not in this case. There are no secret rooms, objects to interact with, quest logs and it seems to have been rushed out. As an example there are many sign posts and headstones that you click on and they are blank. It’s just chests in various places. The enemies are all the same in a particular area and it becomes a bit repetitive and monotonous. There are paths that look as though they might lead you somewhere to something interesting that’s hidden and they are just long dead ends. The shops all sell pretty much the same stuff and I’m sorry to say I just found this boring. I don’t want to discourage he developer but there are much better games of this genre out there and I think this needs to be considered when they next develop a game.

Sandfall

Sandfall

I went through the whole game and found it fairly enjoyable. However, as things currently stand, I’m gonna have to not recommend it.

PROS:

-Great artwork (character portraits, sprites, etc)

-Great music for each area

-Liked being able to choose which path you want to follow til everyone is able to meetup

-The 8 secret spots give neat rewards that are very helpful and not game breaking

-Simple battle system

CONS:

-A lot of grammatical errors (too many commas when it should have been periods, misspelled a few things, etc). Feel like things should have been proofread before release.

Skyfall

A cute little classic RPG. Super easy mouse controls. Fun game play. Lack of a map and quest tracking takes a little bit away from it, sometimes you spend more time running around trying to figure out what to next than actually playing the game. Overall a fun but frustrating game.

This game is in a serious need of visual and translation polish, especially for the price. Nice ideas but needs a better team

Notice: Review sponsored by HLF studio.

Despite needing a bit of visual polishing and translation improvements, the game is pretty good. It has a solid story, enemies, collectible items, upgradeable weapons / powers, and more. In the game, you play as Frank during the witch trials era (where you could be hung for witchcraft for having a single mole), possibly somewhere around the Salem trials period, as Frank, who as a boy witnessed his sister’s death at the hands of a witch as a result of being forced to flee the city after being accused of being a witch. After growing up, he became a witch hunter. Unfortunately, every “witch” he kills is innocent and wrongfully accused of being a witch, so he becomes depressed. After meeting a real witch, he becomes allies with her and she gives him the strength he needs to hunt real witches in the form of 3 gemstones.

Sorcerous

Sorcerous

First Impressions

In Sorcerous you explore an interesting world with a band of engaging characters. Unlike most JRPG style games you’ll need to approach each battle a little more cautiously. Taking note of enemy weaknesses, different options provided by different equipment loadouts, what all the different items do and making sure to exploit every advantage as often as possible is key. Combat feels more inspired by Dungeons and Dragons rather than Final Fantasy. With a focus on difficult encounters managing HP and MP can be tense, but so far hasn’t been overwhelming. One potential downside to this is keeping track of what equipment offers what spells, which spells do what, and the various strengths and weaknesses against the different types of enemies.
