The Remission of Sins

The Remission of Sins

I gave this one a try here recently, and it only took about 15 minutes to get all the way through. I understand that there are voice actors involved, but for 12 dollars, it should be a bit lengthier. The voice acting was nice, and the story is intriguing, but it is really short, even compared to other visual novels that are lower on price.

The game is as simple as the description says, so I don’t need to explain much of what happens since the endings are reachable in a short time. There wasn’t much dialogues and the people’s ‘stories’ are somewhat interesting. Audios are definitely disturbing in some cases, however, the horror esthetic is only for show not really all that horrifying. Though if you ask me if it’s worth purchasing, well buy it at your own interest.

Really interesting interactive fiction. It does away with a lot of the frustrations of the parser genre– pretty much no reason to hunt for verbs, the game is in good faith and plays with you instead of against you– and introduces fun areas and items thanks to the text’s reliance on wordplay.

Patanoir is a text-based adventure where you make use of the similes in your surroundings to find the missing daughter of a baron. The tutorial was straightforward in explaining the system of the game as it covered text interactions, the use of similes, and navigation. The similes are easy to find as the sentences contain the word “like” for the most part. Using them is a different story. Progressing through the game can be described as requiring to think out of box or to make use of obscure item interactions. This aspect of the game is what players would most likely find frustrating. There are two options implemented that can help guide you through the game. One is your trusty servant which you meet at the start of the game (a hint system) and the second is a walkthrough which can be accessed in the main menu. The game is fairly linear though you can make use of different solutions in some instances.

Cyber Manhunt

For an indie developer’s first game, I’m impressed. Definitely give this game a try. I believe that they’ll improve over time.

The good

  • The story is very pertinent to how the internet is today. Data breaches, cyber bullying, abuse, cover-ups, flame wars. There’s a lot of despicable things that we don’t want to acknowledge. We know that the fathomless depths of depravity exist. This game delivers on reminding people that nothing is ever truly ‘gone’ from the internet.

  • Generally, the puzzles are manageable with a bit of critical thinking. It’s quite a bit of fun seeing different puzzles and piecing data together.

Dear Developers,

You should’ve taken another MONTH at most and hired a journalist or copywriter fluent in English. This game has so much potential but a lot of it falls short due to the English grammar and poor translating. It needs A LOT of work. But I can see this game being an absolute GEM if the grammatical errors are all fixed.

Find someone who speaks Fluent English, and let them help you polish this game’s grammar. At least the English portion. I cannot speak for any other translations.

First of all, I’d like to say,

UWU OWO furry time hee hee. Owo Notices your blood stains. Did somewon do a kiwwy wiwwy? Hang them -w-. But, this game is not just fun if you’re a furry. Seriously, very fun to play. Play time for me was about 18-20 hours, but most was silent contemplation and there was a fair bit of offscreen thinking too(I try to predict who did it, with little success, because these murders are quite hard). Kinda a point and click style adventure where you pick up clues to try to solve several murders. But, you really do have to step away from the computer and think as to what happened/contradictions in testimonies, as some are very subtle. The characters feel individual and have interesting personalities. Some get killed off quickly, buut that’s to be expected. The murder trials are fun, and you really have to be thinking the whole time, as the slightest flaw in a theory might make the difference in the suspect. There aren’t too many story-influencing choices, mainly to get funny dialogue quips but there is one great choice you can make at the end, which kinda makes you think “if someone’s going to be killed because you find out the truth, and the truth really won’t change anything in the end, is it really worth getting that justice? Would the guilt that person has be enough? Wouldn’t there life be worth more than their death?” Props for that.
