Disclaimer: I was a closed beta tester for this game starting from October 9, 2018-June 18, 2019, so some information might be outdated. No compensation of any sort (other than a beta key) was provided to me.

Updates: I just got off of a shift after a traffic duty mission where I frisked a suspect and found a switchblade. He was arrested shortly after. Was not taking an emergency call, just doing proactive beat work. Also, the plate information for illegally parked vehicles in traffic duty show up on the PDA, but not on the computer. Also received word that others have arrested those with warrants outside of missions and calls.

Quite an entertaining game. There is a ton of repeats with missions which can get a little boring over a longer period of time, but it’s a good thing they have Multiplayer. I’ll state the pro’s and con’s as well as what could/should be added in the future. I will state some things that may confuse people, but I will try and explain them in brackets. This is of course because I am an Officer in real life and I like to point out things that would be obvious to other officers.

Pros:

  • Has a realistic form of Conduct

The Deed

The Deed

You play as Arran Bruce, part of a noble dynasty which goes back hundreds of years, and you’ve returned to the family home, Dunshiel House. It’s a place which doesn’t hold many happy memories for you growing up. It’s a miserable night, the raining is siling down and you’ve got to face your family whom you’ve not seen for many years. It’s your father’s fiftieth birthday but it’s not the real reason you’ve decided to come back to the family home.

Meet the Bruce family. Son, Arran, soon to be disinherited (usurped by his sister) with murder on his mind. Father, Malcolm, violent tempered, oppressive, abusive. Mother, Gloria, in deep and utter denial of the dysfunctional Bruce family. Sister, Jennifer, violent, cruel, insane and about to die. Dunshiel House staff: one butler and one maid/cook.

A classic “who-dun-it” from the murder’s point of view.

Storyline: Estranged Arran Bruce returns home for his father’s 50th birthday with the sole purpose to murder his sister, Jennifer. Motive: Money, of course. The father, Malcolm, is about to disinherit him in favor of his sister. The question is: How to commit murder and still walk away a free man. 10 murder weapons, and 5 other people who can take the blame, assuming one does not get caught. Of course, there is always the “mysterious” intruder too. (Lizzie Borden will have good company if one manages that.)

The Game:

It’s a cool game, with a good amount of mechanics and tactics into the gameplay.

But it’s not perfect, the game has some minor flaws in my opinion, but fortunately that don’t ruin the experience at all.

The campaign is ok, i have a lot of fun in the process of beating it, trying to arrest or eliminate the tangos on the maps and avoid civilians casualties, also using the different types of equipment and devising strategies for find which one better fits on the situation.

Every situation display is procedurally generated in this game, so you need to evolve your tatics every time you restart a game. But, note, that requires some patience, because you could fail a lot when something goes wrong on your course of action, for me at least added more into the challenge and i don’t find this annoying.

Edit: The game has been updated to have Steam Workshop, and the custom levels that people have already made do provide unique (and challenging!) level layouts that force more creative use of your equipment. While the campaign may be a bit of a breeze to work through, the devs provided players a way to provide any kind of challenge they wanted. This solved my issue of the game being too easy and short so I now consider this game a big thumbs up.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

The game is very close to being a thumbs up, with a few glaring problems that are fixable.

Party Hard

Party Hard

Party Hard – Collector’s Edition

…is stealth puzzle game. Woken up in the middle of the night by the loud music of a neighboring BBQ, you snap and go on a murderous streak, killing everyone from party to party.

⚙ Game Description & Mechanics ⚙

You walk around, stabbing people and killing them in various creative ways, trying not to be seen or caught next to a body. Each level has various traps you can make use of, such as poisoning punch bowls, setting rooms on fire, exploding ovens, and more. There’s some level randomization that may change available traps, rooms or even party goers.

According to my definition, casual games are characterized by simple gameplay and short game sessions. This is probably the main reason why people like to play these kinds of games, between monumental and complex grand-scale games. Party Hard is a perfect example how a casual game should be done. Even though its premise is rather grim - we play as a serial killer - the gameplay is very enjoyable and basically every component of the game is masterfully made.

The game begins with a man recalling the case of a serial killer who went on a murdering rampage at a college party, because the loud music prevented him from falling asleep (yeah right). He managed to get away and repeatedly committed other massacres. Between these cutscenes we get to play as the killer as he visits various locations across the country (the United States) involving other parties, discos, concerts and casinos even. Although the events don’t always seem to be in chronological order in the cutscenes there’s a twist at the end of the game which gives a pretty good explanation to this.

Revolution 60

Revolution 60

If you have synesthesia, get some sunglasses before you play this game, and play it with care. It’s been about two hours since I stopped playing it and I still feel dizzy, disoriented, and nauseous.

I really like this game, but the colors, the lighting, the bloom, the motion blur– all these things put together make me feel as though I’ve been playing the game while sitting inside of a spinning dryer.

EDIT: Just completed it on Girlfriend mode.

Where to start. The Internet really wants you to make things seem worse than they are, but I refuse. Revolution 60 is a game where all the pieces are in place (nearly): there’s music, sound effects, graphics (though the anatomy, esp. the characters' heads, prevents anyone from really taking the drama seriously), and a control scheme, a movement scheme, a battle system, but all the parts are so disparate that they do not work well at all together.

This game is a port of the original IOS release, and, generally-speaking, an improvement over the original game. The controls are more responsive and the framerate is extremely stable. Though the game has issues with certain GPUs according to some users, it is generally more functional and more competent than the original game, with a clear attempt made at addressing the laundry-list of technical problems the original game had. The framerate is fixed, the audio mixing woes are fixed, the synchronization errors are fixed, the model tearing is gone. The game looks smoother and moves better than ever before, and I’ll give Giant Spacekat Studio its props for getting this much done. New content was added, including new responses for Holiday, new animations, and new skins for all the characters. By all accounts, this is an outstanding achievement on Giant Spacekat’s part at fixing the game’s various outstanding issues, and it deserves respect for doing so.

The Deed II

The Deed II

Overall, this is an excellent game with a lot of replay value. The only criticism I have of this game is that it is way too hard. No matter how many times I’ve played it, I only get the convicted, killed, or unsolved ending. I have yet to been able to frame anybody else and I have no idea why. Also if you want to commit the crime in the backyard while Frank is taking a whiz, you have to act fast. I mean ridiculously fast. I wish they would give you even just 5 more minutes before he steps outside.

Definitely enjoyed this installation of the series. It was fun and challenging trying to figure out the various ways to get away with murder (should you choose that path). I would have enjoyed a bit more depth in the main character’s story but understand why it’s a bit abrupt. There was a lot of characters in this game and all had very interesting backgrounds (some more than others). I am a big fan of games that allow for various endings, and this one offers it in a short, bittersweet way (as no ending is truly “good”). I loved the setting of the game and thought it was also well done (although, like the MC’s background, there really isn’t much to it).

This Is the Police 2

This Is the Police 2

I can highly recommend This is the police 2 for everyone who played the first game as it heavily improves on the gameplay. In every call you get to choose how your officers react, what happens after that and how it actually goes, something the first game didn’t really offer. The officers are also much more human. While in the first game they were basically a portrait with a name and a professionalism stat, here they have various more stats, individual loyalty levels and a few special traits. For instance Kamatari Kurosawa is really lazy and only does one call per day, Galen Woolbag smells bad Leo Bradhi loves coming with his own uniforms. This along with some “Can I have a day off?” questions unique to a certain officer or them asking go to a funeral when a fellow officer dies or developing alcohol problems when they see them die in front of them makes them seem much more human and adds to the atmosphere and adds a new layer to gameplay.

I loved This is the Police 1, but unfortunately this fails to reach anywhere near the same quality.

There are some genuinely good additions made here:

  • Having officers with particular skills (speed, etc) made calls much more interesting (and gave a great incentive to keep good cops alive)

  • The XCOM style tactical combat system is a very neat idea, and at times was very fun to play. I would love to see this done in any future related games.

  • The ability buy and give out equipment to cops with relevant skills was a nice touch, and made the dept. feel much more real
