Shadows of Forbidden Gods

Shadows of Forbidden Gods

TLDR - Great, unique Lovecraftian turn-based grand strategy game.

The player takes on the mantle of one of multiple eldritch gods with different play styles, bent on bringing their particular brand of apocalypse. The first unlocked god is the most simple - She Who Will Feast, a giant snake that focuses on corrupting heroes and rulers through “enshadowing” them. She starts weak, without a real worldly presence, before awakening, destroying civilised lands and ultimately eating the world. Other gods include Iastur, the Laughing King who focuses on spreading madness to all, Vinerva a god representing nature’s bounties but with a serious catch, Mammon (unreleased at time of writing) who offers great material wealth for the small price of eating people and Ophanim (unreleased at the time of writing) who offers mankind salvation from the aforementioned enshadowment but at the cost of their autonomy.

You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/wA_Tf2MRfHI

I bought this game on the Steam release sale (10% off). While I can’t say that I feel I got my money’s worth, I also can’t quite give a negative review. Consider this a neutral recommendation. There’s lots of things to like about this, but there seems to be an equal amount of things not to like.

This is a sci-fi escape room. If you’re expecting a puzzle experience like in The Room VR: A Dark Matter, then you will be sorely disappointed. This game lacks the production values, polish, & the amazing puzzle design (along with good hint system) in the The Room. Instead, you have puzzles that are open-ended and you have to find the right item or the correct code and figure out how to use them or pair them with another clue.

The Devs have listened to feedback and added smooth turning and other control options, very good.

The game itself consists of a quite a few puzzles that are difficult to understand or outright confusing unless you’ve done them before. I don’t feel rewarded for finishing them, rather annoyed at the solution. I often found myself making progress only to be faced with yet another puzzle, and thinking “What was the point of that last one?” or “Why am I here?”

It lacks direction or explanation for why I’m doing any of the things I’m doing. Am I supposed to be doing this? Is the game glitched or have I just not found the correct solution? There’s just no indication of what I should be doing.

Clou - Roll & Heist

Clou - Roll & Heist

Clou - Roll & Heist is a digital roll & write game, in which you have to use the abilities and tools of your thief character skillfully to get the most loot out of your heist. From the kiosk around the corner to the Tower of London, from the cash box to the crown jewels, make the perfect burglary!

Each turn you roll 3 dice, which you have to use on your character sheet to activate their abilities and make progress on your heist plan. Combine your dice skillfully in combinations or use specials to manipulate the results. But you also have to fulfill the security conditions and use all of your dice or you will leave traces or trigger the alarm.

Perfect Heist

There is nothing perfect about this game. My friends have played this for 5 hours and even with house rules, Its still bad. Here’s why.

The game works like Gmod Guess who but the hiders (robbers) have objectives. Now this might sound interesting but there is no way real way to blend in with the AI.

There is no real way to keep your cover as a robber, unless the cops are idiots. AI dont carry bags. AI dont Sprint or Crouch. AI DONT WALK OUTSIDE THE STAIRS OF THE BANK. Even if you manage to evade the cops and hide as an employee, there are cop class abilities that give you away. If you want to get the amount of money that the game REQUIRES you to steal, you have to go for the vaults. And if you thought it was impossible to evade the cops before, think again. You can either drill into to the vault or blow open the door with a bomb bag. The drill is loud and NOBODY goes back to that room and again, AI don’t carry bags.
