Mython Island

Mython Island

If you like Monster Taming games like Pokemon and Roguelike games such as Slay the Spire then you need to own this game. It blends the two genres so seamlessly that I can’t believe it hasn’t really been capitalized on before.

The game offers two modes, Story and Survival mode the former has you choosing a starting Mython and the latter you will receive a team of random ones. You have to manage your Mython through the randomly generated runs and pick different paths depending on what gets generated.

Mython Island is a game that I have been waiting for since Visionstead Studio’s first tweet about the game. The art style grabbed me, and the concept seemed cool: a roguelike monster taming game. Going into this game, despite it being EA, I had high expectations.

Mython Island 100% met my expectations, and the developer has exceeded my expectations when it comes to acting on feedback concerning the game.

One of the first things you will experience is the OST, and it is immediately enjoyable. The feeling and sound of the OST changes at different points during the game, but all of it is a cut above many indie games' OSTs!

Train’em

Train’em

The Game:

Catch your favorite companions, Train them up to become the best, Fight challenging opponents & champions to become the Master of this world.

Explore the open world, gain experience, and grow to defeat your rivals, along with taking down the gruesome Parruna clan who terrorize the land of Regione Lazina. Do it all alongside friends!

The future of creature-collection:

Try the future of creature-collection games, with a new introduction to an already well known genre.

We went back to modernize the old classic creature-collection games and realized that with modern technology we could develop a more in depth game, while holding on to the good feeling of playing an old creature-collection game.

Some of the major things we did in Train’em:

  • Real Time: Train’em provides a real time combat experience giving the player a new and improved feeling of control in the battle arena, unlike old creature-collection games where combat is turn based.

  • Open world: The world is completely open to explore and you choose what way to go, who to fight, what champion to defeat and what tournament to master

  • Multiplayer: Play with your friends, unveil the world together or try to defeat them in combat & become the master together

  • Tournaments: Train’em features a series of different tournaments challenging you in unique ways as you progress through the game.

  • Early Access: Many updates will come in the future, with new companions, champions, tournaments, map extensions and much more.

Pareidolia

“The experience of human life is an alternation of joy and suffering”

Pareidolia is a psychological horror, where you can control your character from two perspectives, which imply artistic style and gameplay.

Pareidolia is the tendency for perception to impose a meaningful interpretation on a nebulous stimulus, usually visual, so that one sees an object, pattern or meaning where there is none. Pareidolia is a game about a game. You will live in and out of it, meet different creatures and choose whether to help them. It all reflects how you see things.

Do you enjoy autobattlers but find more fun in longer-form, singleplayer experiences? This may scratch your itch.

A little rough around the edges but this has the potential to be a new genre-defining game.

If you enjoy roguelikes – Slay the Spire, Monster Train, etc - you most likely will enjoy this game

If you enjoy autobattlers – Teamfight Tactics, Dota Autochess – you will most likely enjoy this game

If you enjoy both of these genres – you will undoubtedly enjoy this game.

Just be warned – there is very little tutorial and no hand holding, so it may take you a run or two to understand the MANY systems at play here (and there are a lot of systems). While this makes for a steep ramp, this also makes for a ton of replayability.

As usual steam needs a neutral option.

Auto battler where I don’t have to worry about other people draining the pool of the unit type I want to play is a huge plus. As w/ most of these game it has plenty of types, plenty of items, and this one seems to have an excessive amnt of reroll options.

The bad part of course is the boss system. You have fixed bosses over several regions which you can challenge in any order so you can attempt to avoid bosses that would be a bad matchup for your build type early on. Though I don’t like fixed bosses there is at least some strategy factored into your order of fights.

Athenian Rhapsody

Athenian Rhapsody

Athenian Rhapsody is a new comedic RPG game in which you’ll explore the world of Athens! It is a turn based RPG with intense and fast paced real-time-dodging. You’ll be faced with many challenges, and you’ll have to fight your way through the world by either fighting, or awkwardly trying to make friends with the enemies through pick-up-lines, mean jokes, memory games, and other strange and funny interactions. You’ll also be faced with many vigorous mental challenges, with mind bendingly difficult puzzles such as “Push Button” and “Spell Richard”. There is a vast amount of activities in Athens that do not fall under the RPG category as well, and will catch you off guard.

There are a large amount of enemies you’ll have the chance to battle, all befriendable and all with large amounts of unique dialogue. Some of the creatures you’ll develop a strong bond with will join your party, and you can switch to them in battle! They also have different abilities in battle, so you may want to swap party members depending on the situation. Well, assuming you’ve made friends with them instead of murdering them for their EXP… There are 16 possible followers for you to discover, as well as numerous alternate endings and story extensions based on your decisions ingame.

There is something for everyone to enjoy with lots of unique and engaging battle mechanics, a large amount of characters with their own stories and interactions with the world, and some intensely tough challenges down the line as well.

Malice & Greed

Malice & Greed

I’ve currently put around 200 hours into the alpha version of Malice while playtesting it before the early access launch, and it’s a MASSIVE recommendation. I feel like I’ve learned so much about the game, but that just makes me realise how much left there still is to discover.

Malice is quite a fresh take on the Roguelite genre with a progression system that surprisingly manages to sit in the middle of Hades & Dark Souls in a way that clicks. The number of possible builds with distinctly different playstyles is actually wild, and the emergent interactions scale in a way where there is always another thing to learn or consider, even if you think you’ve learned it all. Each time you have another ‘aha’ moment and understand how you can combine the systems together in a new way, the game reveals a whole new world of what you are able to do with those systems, things you would have never even considered but make so much sense once you know it’s possible.

Real player with 153.7 hrs in game

You know how Early Access games usually build on top of itself like a tower but without expanding itself, so you generally want to wait until it’s actually full release so you don’t get bored or worse, done with the game completely? Somehow this game doesn’t feel like that. Each major update feels like its own little game, and replaying them doesn’t feel boring at all. It does help that if you don’t know what you’re doing you will get wrecked super hard, and even if you do know what’s going on you’re probably still going to get wrecked by some very poor decision-making.

Monster Tribe

Monster Tribe

Monster Tribe fuses strategy combat with rpg systems, item collection and dungeons filled with puzzles to pull the player into its world. But ultimately, this is a game all about exploration. The island of Akama is vast and wild, reclaimed by nature over many years. There are mountains, beaches, forests and mines, along with some scenery much less familiar. Remnants of vast ruins can be seen all throughout the land. In order to explore these strange - and sometimes dangerous - lands, you will need the help of the Ateyan. By binding your spirit to these creatures, you will be able to uncover the many secrets Akama has to offer. You will use the Ateyan to battle your way through the wilderness, and along the way there will be many unique resources to collect. Your tools will help you scavenge for rare ores and logs, and forage for food in the trees and beneath the waves. Resources will be a huge aid to both you and the Ateyan that choose to follow you, allowing you to unlock special fusion forms and power up your party. Once you feel ready, the player can take their team of Ateyan to one of the many Towers present throughout the island, to try to tackle the strange and mysterious dungeons and puzzles that await them there. Beyond these epic challenges lie answers to the mysteries of the past, and possibly a way forward for the people of the present.

In a vast ocean landscape, a lone island sits. This island is called Akama by its people, and it is a very special place. It is the home of not only its native people, but also strange creatures called Ateyan. The Ateyan appeared on this island through a magical Rift, and continuously draw energy from it. Using this magical spirit energy, the Ateyan have manifested wonderful powers of all kinds.

The player will embark into the land of Akama and relearn the secrets of the past. Along the way, you will use the unique powers of the Ateyan to restore a balance that had been tipped a long time ago, and reveal truths about the island, the creatures, and the people who inhabited it long ago. There is much more to the history of this land than the stories that have been passed down. Will you journey to the heart of this world to see them for yourself?

Battling is a key aspect to Monster Tribe, and so we put the utmost care into making sure we got it right. Battles are fought with teams of Ateyan on a small grid battlefield, with each team occupying their own side of the field. There are many complex elements to the way these battles play out, but we have done everything we can to make sure that they are not only deep, but accessible and fun to play through. Below we will detail many of the nuances of the battle system for those hoping to dig their teeth into the meat of the game.

Akama contains many biomes filled with spaces for all kinds of different creatures to fill unique niches in its ecosystem. But, it seems that besides fish and a few birds, no animals live on the island. Instead, small balls of light roam around the wilderness, barely even visible to some - and not at all to others. They are called Ateyan, and according to history they are much more than they appear to be. In the ancient past the Ateyan appeared, through what is only referred to as The Rift, and they exploded in population and diversity all through the island. For many generations they lived alongside the people of the island, and there are descriptions of all kinds of magical, powerful creatures capable of incredible feats. But it seems somewhere along the line the Ateyan and the humans drifted. The Ateyan remained on the island, but only their spiritual essence could be seen; those same strange balls of light. The rest of their existence fell into a space between this world and the world of the Rift, and there the Ateyan could continue their lives without the disturbance of humanity. It is in this form that they stayed. Now, even their very existence as anything more alive than the rocks and rivers - has come into question. As the player will discover upon beginning their journey, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

It’s an old game but still a great game, never gets bored of the gameplay and stories, bought the deluxe during the autumn sale 50% discount. The new HD graphic looks good, main characters and some mobs now have voice acting, also now we can choose skills we need when fusing demons which is convenient. It was a pain and time-consuming before on PS2 that we had to keep shuffling until we get at least some okay skills. Hey Atlus, I wish you guys add Persona 5 Royal on PC too, yearning for that game so badly since a lot of us are unable to get a console.
